I joined Kevin Weiss of ESPN Blacksburg and shared my thoughts on the Buckeyes wide receiver suspensions, and how Ohio State's loss will impact Virginia Tech's defensive gameplan.

ahh..there it is!! In all it's glory! I can't wait to listen on my way home
I am sure a podcast will be available after the broadcast.
Agreed. I won't be able to listen live, but would love to hear your take on the situation. If possible, post online, thanks!
See above!
Listen. French was strong as usual.
Thanks, French. I played that podcast while at work...and it was worth it.
Quintessential French. You answered any questions I might have had, and several I would never have thought of. Love the way your brain can actually get your tongue to explain what you're thinking. I'll have to listen to it again, however, to fully process all the ramifications of your observations. That was a packed twenty minutes.
Next appearance will discuss the Bosa suspension, of course that will align with a film review on the topic here.
Which will be... when? Now? Can we have it now?

But seriously, who the hell is Jonathan?
Obviously kidding, really enjoyed the listen.
Ohio State fans and coaches be like:

Insert Cosmo Kramer butthurt comment.
EDIT: Lol, he already downvoted it. Leg to bring you even
And a leg to you too, Fud. That tweet isn't made up, isn't over hyped, is incapable of being taken out of context. Those folks just have to live with that tweet until that individ is gone, gone, gone. And even then, we'll keep it in the archives and trot it out as we see fit. We are entitled to use their own words against them, they can buy all the ointment and soft toilet paper they see fit to deal with it.
You commenting in the first segment about the anxiety caused by our corners not looking for those balls on deep plays made me feel much better. I've never been so nervous in my life watching those passes go down field last year.
Just in case you missed the column, here is a more detailed explanation of why the Hokie DBs use that technique.http://www.thekeyplay.com/virginia-tech-football/2015/06/9434/beating-bu...
Torrian Gray called it "the 'OH SHIT' technique." It still makes me laugh.
this needs to be a shirt. I suggest TKP corner that market
HAH!! I see what you did there
I thought the "oh shit" technique was looking back for the ball and realizing it's going over your head and then realizing you just lost a step on the WR because you looked back.
Fantastic article. I remember being in the stands as one of my friends who played DB in high school was trying to explain it to us X&Os illiterate folks. When it works it's 'OH SHIT'; during the ECU game it was 'oh....shit....'
Would Bud consider playing Dadi as a standing OLB and going with a 3-man line with Corey Marshall on the end (aka Pitt 2013)? Or is the 4-man front too valuable to do that? Just thinking about rotating players around the try and mitigate the rover position
Nothing is out of the question for Bud Foster. We're talking about a guy who blitzed a corner through the A gap. I mean, c'mon.
I heard he also made Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs
Bud has seen things you people wouldn't believe...
Haha, when was this? I don't remember this one, but I wouldn't put it past Bud.
I think he means Kyle Fuller against GT.
you mean this play....
My bad, B gap.
I know that but I'm just not quite football-smart enough to know if certain techniques are smart or just stupid for some situations. So basically I'm asking French to say either "yes RealDiehl this is quite possible and could be effective" or "RealDiehl you're an idiot stop asking football questions" and I would be okay with either, really
I'm not French, but ostensibly you could see Dadi at OLB in a 30 stack look or in quasi-5/6 man fronts in order to get another pass rusher on the field. That might mean having Dadi move to, essentially, the whip position and moving Van Dyke/Shegog into the rover position to run a true 4-4. That would be vaguely similar to what we did against Pitt in 2013 and similar to what French proposed in this article. Not sure that we would see it with any frequency though.
Whatever alignment Bud uses (which I am sure he will adjust based on Ohio State's adjustments), the fundamentals will stay the same. Edge defender, gap fits inside, and the Force/Spill with the play side alley player will all be there, no matter what is the alignment.
I can't get over the first thought I had when I started reading your post. Unfortunately, I'm not computer literate enough to come up with a gif of Bud actually playing Dadi. Ahh, the frustration a lack of education brings.
That is basically what he did with the Bear front. Whichever DE was to the boundary side, he stood up and played outside. Deon Clarke stood outside on the edge to the field side.
So it was basically a 5-man front with an end and Clarke as standing pass rushers?
That's what the film analyst on the radio said.
yes
French, what will the return of Dahman Mckinnon mean for the defense. Will he be more than a ST or occasional contributor?
Unless something crazy happens, he'll be a heck of a special teams contributor. Much-needed, IMO.
It really depends on the trust level he has with Coach Foster. McKinnon is a guy with great measurables who contributes on special teams. I have not seen anything on film of him playing as an every down linebacker that would make me think he factors into the discussion yet. That could change with a great fall camp, but after missing the spring, he has some work to do.
hey French, what are the chances Bud whips out this baby? It would be cranking up the trickeration to 11.
Slim. More likely that is what JT Barrett or Cardale Jones does in the 4th Q.
JT sees the bear:
Hopefully they start Cardale
Can't. Stop. Watching this
