Reaching out to Metallica to play in Blacksburg: "One thing I will say just to put this to bed, we do not have Metallica in here. We will still certainly use 'Enter Sandman.' Metallica, when we checked, we do have some connections to their manager, I believe they're touring Amsterdam, Germany, etc. So Blacksburg was not on that. But we have talked to them. But that is something that we're working on. We're working for dates next year. I don't know that it will work out or that it will be a full-blown concert by any stretch, but if we ever have them play here, they've been good to Tech and I think we've been good keeping their name and music in the limelight as well."

I think what stood out to me from that Whit interview is him saying that the 440 tickets from the season tickets and mini-plan combined is all that is left to the Ohio State game.
Rules out any individual tickets being available, which is a good sign.

In the player/Beamer interviews at mark 22:30 whoever is making this is interrupted with what can only be termed the epitome of a softball question that serves no purpose. I'm pretty sure I can hear him seething that he has to listen to Frank answer that before asking about Tim Settle. haha...

The same way people watch soccer. "It's just a bunch of people running around in a field." There is a lot more nuance and strategy beyond just turning left. You're driving right on the edge of running into the wall (tight) or spinning out (loose) and it takes a lot of skill to control and communicate to the pits what changes you need to make the car faster.

I'm a soccer fan too. I made the analogy to point out how frustrating it is to always here the "left turn" thing. It does take a few races to actually understand everything that's going on.

If we ever meet, I'm buying you a drink. Thank you for that analogy and for pointing out there's more to it than driving fast and turning left. The days of NASCAR being a redneck sport are gone. The fans might still be rednecks but your drivers and crews are mechanical geniuses and mathematical whizzes with degrees.

I don't like racing or soccer, but not because I don't understand the game or appreciate the "nuances" their devotees are quick to point out. Just find them boring, in general. Soccer can be some fun when it's the USA or the Hokies, but, well, for me that's it. I understand that both sports have tons of rabid fans, it's just that neither one entertains me enough for me to take time to watch. I've said it before, I'll say it again. I would rather watch fishing on tv than either one.

Heck, baseball is my favorite sport and you won't catch me watching a regular season game on TV at home. I can't sit still for long enough. If I'm at home, then there's something that needs to be done, fixed, maintained, or cleaned.
And baseball on TV is boring. I love the sport but I have to be there live. Same goes for hockey.
Postseason games are different, of course.

I'm with you there. Baseball is a fun sport to play, and a fantastic sport to watch live at a big league park, but, well, that's about it. For me, it takes a World Series to perk my interest up, and it doesn't happen every Fall. I'll never forget, though, the day in Yellowstone...cold, wind, snow/sleet/freezing rain. Walking back to the campground with a fellow angler, we discussed our coming evenings. I was relegated to cold food, no campfire, and reading until the batteries gave out in my lamp. The other guy was going back to his camper, cooking a steak, and watching the World Series from the warm comfort of his recliner. Next year, I had a camper.
