UVA recruiting

Something I was just thinking of as I see the VT commits continue to pile up:

- UVA's two commits for the 2012 class had zero offers from VT. Four of VT's 2012 commits had UVA offers (and two had UVA interest). That's a not-so-subtle clue to the recruiting tide already shifting.

- VT is the leader for Joel Caleb (#1 VA) and Korren Kirven (#3 VA), already secured J.C. Coleman (#5 VA), and is in great shape with Moore, Homer, and Williams (all top 10 VA players) not to mention by my judgment five additional top-25 state players.

- BEST case scenario, Mike London's crew goes something like 5-7 : I see only 2-3 gimme games on their schedule (again, this is Virgina football: nothing is really a gimme). I think after two failing seasons, where you are expecting your impact players to be your incoming freshmen, Mike London and company won't be able to peddle their "UVA WINNERS COME WEAR THE ORANGE AND BLEW" message to recruits. Meanwhile, VT ends up in at least a Peach Bowl type situation if not BCS and returns a lot of talent.

Who would you play for?

To your point above in 2011 Virginia had 26 commits, 7 had VT offers:

Darius Jennings
Kameron Mack
Demetrious Nicholson
Brandon Phelps
Clifton Richardson
Dominique Terrell
David Watford

Virginia Tech had 21 commits, 11 had UVa offers:

Michael Cole
Jake Goins
Chris Hall
Michael Holmes
Kyshoen Jarrett
Demitri Knowles
Ryan Malleck
Corey Marshall
Darius Redman
Matt Roth
Ronny Vandyke

But yeah, they "out-recruited" us.

We just need to keep beating any sort of relevance out of them and all will be well.

I think

We should be more worried about out-recruiting non-Virginia schools for in-state talent.

It would also be nice to snag a few top out-of-state recruits.

well

uva is the fave for williams. homer could go to uva or bc, great shape might be a stretch.

uva also offered the 4th kids from norfolk christian, wahee. db/wr in hopes of securing moore and wynn. nixon is unlikely to go to uva. they needed that to make up with moore.

wahee

committed to uva.

1 of 2 things, smart for him to do so now before his teammates commit elsewhere or he talks some of those guys to go with him.

Did we even offer him?

nope

the norfolk christian kids said that all would commit to vt if they offered wahee. they thought about it and said no, not even greyshirt.

d1aa at best.

this can't hurt uva for the other 3, but not sure it really hurts vt much either. we'll see.

Kwontie Moore

It looks like he's going to follow Wahee to UVa.

was sold on instant PT and

wahee is his best friend.

wynne and especially nixon are still thought to be vt leans ... we'll see.

VT > UVA

UVA had in my opinion an expected success (especially for their books) with the first year recruiting from Mike London but I think it is clear that the power isn't overly swinging towards Charlottesville like many Hoos fans may think. The 2012 class for VT is already shaping up to be a fantastic one and we have a LONG path to go.

Joe made a great point when he noted that of UVA's 26 2011 players committed, we only offered 7 of them. Of our 21 players that committed, Virginia offered 11 of them. It's clear that we simply aren't going after some of the guys that they are getting excited about. I believe our sights our set on bigger and better recruits. With the addition of Shane Beamer to the staff, I think our recruiting is in GREAT condition for the future. Nothing but excitement for Hokies fans.
