I saw this and thought it was excellent:
https://magic.piktochart.com/output/7401004-jt-barrett-cfb-film-room-bre...
Stats I think were particularly interesting:
-We had 27 (27!!!) pressures on him, which ended up being 21% of all the pressures he faced all year.
-He only completed 31% of his passes against us
-When pressured, Barrett's completion % dropped from 67.1% to 46.1%, and his yds/attempt dropped from 10-5.9
-He improved against pressure as the year went on (51.4% against pressure over the final 5 games of the year)
-Against his 5 toughest defenses (us, Penn St, Michigan and Minnesota were all top 26 pass D, Mich St was 61st), his completion % drops to 50%, and 39% when pressured.

That is a spectacular breakdown. This really puts in to perspective how many available targets he is losing. Honestly I am really hoping Barrett wins the job because I think we can handle him far better than Cardale.
I'm not so sure. He is a better overall college QB than Jones, and Jones is no slouch either. I do agree it will come down to how well our O line handles your D line; but I expect JT, if he starts, to be much better under pressure than last year.
I think JT is a better QB, but Jones is probably better equipped to beat a defense like ours.
That's exactly my reasoning, against anyone else I think Barrett is better, but a bruising QB with a cannon arm could really hurt us if he can throw accurate deep balls.
I don't know about that. I always thought Barrett was better suited to beating a D like ours - a little quicker, perhaps more accurate on the shorter routes...
Our dbs in man always makes the mobile qbs so much more dangerous, especially the quicker ones who can cover a fair amount of ground before the dbs even realize they're on the move. They're also a more of a threat to house a run once they slip through a hole or something. I'm not sure Cardale is as much of a threat in that regard - seems more like Roethlisburger-esch impossible to tackle behemoth.
And the long-developing deep-ball advantage that Cardale has over Barrett (I hope) will be neutralized by our pass rush. I'd love to hear an OSU guy weigh in on these assumptions, but those are mine. If I'm Meyer, I go Barrett, 100%
I agree. I also think that Barrett's ability and experience at reading coverages makes him better suited to recognize the often complex and disguised coverages that Bud Foster runs.
I only worry about undersized dlineman and linebackers trying to tackle said behemoth
This. Cardale could exploit this all day, and think it is a high-risk vulnerability because there is little to nothing we can do about it. If JT is quicker and more athletic, we can defend him more effectively through strategy, which Bud is highly capable of doing. Bud isn't capable of making our guys bigger, despite urban legend.
#bucky@linebacker! I hear hes pretty tall
He had that one drive where he shredded us on the ground. I thought that was going to set the tone for the whole day, but I guess with no real proven QB to back him up, OSU kinda went away from the designed runs and scrambles in the rest of the game. I worry that with Jones proven as a asset as a backup that they might turn Barrett loose to run more, which has hurt VT in the past.
Also, I think I remember that Barrett was making his second college start and had a prolonged break between games due to missing part of his senior year in h.s. too. ,I doubt he will have that rust anymore. Bud better have a killer gameplan.
I agree. In case up voting your comment didn't make it obvious. How many times have we been killed by a mobile QB? The last Maryland game comes immediately to mind. And the million times the Pitt QB killed us last year. And the same with BC, or am I wrong? Of course we handled UNC's mobile QB pretty well last year. This is going to be interesting to see play out live and in person on Labor Day night!
These stats are great and really line up with what I saw on tape watching OSU last year. Thanks, OP!
What's funny is that Meyer pretty much has to play his best quarterback, not just the one that would be better for this game.
If he plays Cardale, and they win, he has to stick with Cardale for the season or have a real QB controversy. Same with J.T.
It leaves off his most relevant stat: 0-1 against Virginia Tech.
IMO, JT will be the guy for none of the reasons people talk about. It will be because he is the best leader. He was raised by 2 Army drill sgts. He is disciplined, quiet (people listen when he does speak), confident, and he is concerned about other players and the team more than himself. Cardale is a team guy too, but more of a funny, good guy kind of personality, and I sense doesn't have the degree of respect and followship JT does. Everyone respects his game, and he can make plays under pressure, but I'm not sure he is in the same universe as JT in being a leader on and off the field.
Urban Meyer constantly says, "The QB is the product of those around him." What JT had around him early last year was not nearly as good as what he had around him later in the year, and certainly less than what Cardale had around him. I know that gets interpreted as an excuse on this board, but that doesn't make it any less true. VT whipped their butts last year - and that's also the truth. Doing it again this year, I suspect, is going to be tougher slog, but doable nonetheless. We'll see if JT or JT/Cardale or Cardale can even Ohio State's record vs. this great Hokie team. It will be a tough slog for them too.
