Urban Meyer: Ohio State now devoting over 50% of their camp practices to Virginia Tech

Q: Hell Week is over now coach, you're on to a new phase. Is it Virginia Tech?

A: Yeah, we actually started a little bit early obviously because we open up with them, and we have a lot of respect for who they are, and they beat us. So we've been working on them a little bit, but it's gonna be in earnest now. It's gonna be over half our practice is going to be devoted to them now.

This seems a little bit early to tailor practices to specific teams, but obviously the first game of the year is different than all the rest.

And so it begins in earnest. Here is the whole video if anyone is interested: Urban Meyer Press Conference - Discussion VT @ 9:20 mark

Just an fyi, 16 days, 4 hours, 50 minutes and 50 seconds til kickoff.

I find it hard to believe that Frank&Co have been devoting all of our practice time to just the anti-Buckeye schemes. It's probably more about getting familiar with our playbooks than any specific strategies for our opponents no matter who they are or when they're on our schedule. I'm not surprised that UM hasn't been focused on us in practice yet.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

Yeah, camp is about getting your system in place, solidifying the culture and just busting your ass for two practices a day and surviving. Now the fun begins after camp is over (almost, which is why I posted this since they are turning their attention to VT for 2 weeks straight).

Oh is VT playing Ohio State? Such a low profile game that almost forgot.

News to me. Is the game this year?

Damn guys. Right in the feels.

To be fair, I am pretty sure our coaches had said that they would start putting in OSU gameplans after our 2nd scrimmage so it is not a huge surprise. Big first game of the year, you might as well use an extra week to gameplan.

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:

Your week number two opponent says thank you.

Go Hokies!

Based on that post, you fit in fine. Leg from me.

Thanks. Intelligent dialogue here on TKP. And helmet sticker to you.

hahaha you alright, BuckeyeVet

Meyer understands that Hokies start jumping before the game.

Pretty sure Urban ripped off and Australian hurdler for this warmup routine:

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

Looks a lot better on her.

Not even sure how you can make the association, unless it was just an excuse to post it. Oh, now I get it.

Wiley, Brown, Russell, Drakeford, Gray, Banks, Prioleau, Charleton, Midget, Bird, McCadam, Pile, Hall, Green, Fuller, Williams, Hamilton, Rouse, Flowers, Harris, Chancellor, Carmichael, Hosley, Fuller, Exum, Jarrett

Looks like it was good for her [too].

Considering we beat them at home last year, Urban is doing the right thing preparing early for the Hokies. He is showing respect for what could be a good VT team in front of a packed stadium. I have no doubt the Hokies will be ready for what the Buckeyes will throw at them.

Nothing abnormal here... the first game of the season always gets a little bit more preparation because you simply have the time.

I want the camera in Urban for the first play when our defense doesn't come out in a bear look. Then the second, third down, and after the punt when entire coaching staff collectively says "shit"

I highly doubt Urban would be surprised to see VT in a traditional front.

I would be surprised to see us in a traditional front, if it stayed that way 3 seconds after the snap.

It migh look traditional but, it won't be.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

I don't think anybody is expecting the same gameplan. Gosh I sure hope they don't, that would be idiotic.

Over half their practice will be devoted to what they THINK we will be...Then bud pops out the bushes and spanks them in a whole new and exciting fashion.

Im already jumping!!

So what you're saying is we line up however we want, and at the snap it morphs into what appears to the offense to be to be a 6-6-10 defense, with Hokies all over the field? Thats what I'm looking for.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

I'll be looking for the eagle from us.
