Some of us who spend a lot of time outdoors have speculated about when we first notice the turn of the season. While the other seasons trumpet their arrival, Fall has always been a bit more subtle. A slight difference in the way the sun comes through the window, or shines or sets on the river...a noticeable change in the coolness of the morning, the ripening or demise of plants we see every day. Today, my wife of more than 42 years called it. She looked at me and said, "Hey, it's Hokie time, isn't it?" I'd been restless, distracted, spending way more time on TKP than usual, and she noticed. I know all of you here are excited and gearing up for the opening game, but I just wondered if your SOs, coworkers and friends have called you on it? It's a good thing, right?
Well, is it Fall yet? Momma says, well, yes.

I just started a new job. My supervisor popped in to my office today and asked what the countdown was.
Best supervisor ever.
My NCAA football playing ticks up a notch considerably, less games get simulated etc. Tkp already takes up too much time

...everybody I work with has been asking me how many days until college football season starts...
Because I've known the answer since about June or so.

I judge it based on via the fall equinox...but in all seriousness it actually is based around football season. Once tech kicks off that OSU game its officially fall
Which conveniently falls on Labor Day this year. We've got a supporting argument.
My SO is more Hokie than I am. Her dad grew up in Blacksburg and went to VT. She's been tailgating/going to football/basketball games since she was 2. She's been to New Orleans for the Nat'l Championship game and she knows plenty about players past and present. She has a beta fish named Ernie after Ernest Wilford. She doesn't give me a hard time at all for my fandom.
Momma's only ever been wrong once. We forgive her, though. She came around eventually.
When I saw the headline, I thought you were referring to my numerous amazing contributions to your favorite sports media conglomerate. Still, great story, and yes, it is football season.
