Piece by piece, or rather picture by picture, Beamer Ball teased a new helmet on its Instagram account. The nine individual photos combine to reveal a metallic orange helmet with a maroon facemask pumped up by a maroon and orange glove.
Virginia Tech will wear the helmet against Ohio State, and will have a sticker on the back to remember Alison Parker and Adam Ward. Beamer Ball shared the following message on its Instagram account.

Virginia Tech wrote the following in a release.
The Virginia Tech football squad will wear special helmet stickers for the season opener against Ohio State on Labor Day night.
Alison Parker and Adam Ward were doing a live broadcast for Roanoke CBS affiliate WDBJ-7, on Wednesday morning at Smith Mountain Lake, a little more than an hour from Tech's campus, when they were killed. The players will wear a helmet sticker that features the No. 7 and teal and maroon ribbons, along with the initials of both victims.
Teal was Parker's favorite color, while the maroon ribbon represents Ward, who graduated from Virginia Tech in 2011.

It looks like this tweet got updated/ deleted, but I swear there was a frame that showed #allmaroon from the neck down. Regardless, the helmet is pretty slick and a classy gesture.

Honestly, I wouldn't either. It's not double sourced so take it with a grain of salt. Also, it's uniforms, which change at the drop of a hat. But the person who told me has a track rate of 100%.

It's a great gesture by the athletic department and equipment managers to include that tribute for Alison and Adam. Very appropriate.

If I remember correctly, the last time a new uniform look got leaked before a season opener, they made a last minute change (I think the grey jerseys we wore against Alabama in 2013 were originally slated to be paired with grey pants). So not only is there a precedent for changing up the uniform if it's leaked, but there are also a bunch of grey pants that they probably think we've forgotten about...
Also, looks like my #Lane4HomeGames2015 prediction panned out.
I am glad we went with maroon pants for the Bama game. The all grey would not have looked nearly as good.
We wore the grey pants later in the year vs Maryland with the Hokie stone helmets. I'm fun at parties.
On one hand, I feel slightly embarrassed for not remembering that. On the other hand, that game sucked, and I was a slightly happier person when that memory was suppressed.
I feel very meh about it right now. However, I think it'll look better on the field. Kinda like the Hokie Stone helmets. They weren't great digitally but in person and on field they were nice.

Love the all Maroon with this helmet. I think it would look way better under the lights then orange jersey/pants. Unless the orange on the jersey/pants were the same metallic like look. Just the flat orange color on the jersey woud be too many textures of oranges. Maybe the cleats will be the same as the helm

Hokie fans are very agreeable, However, I have found the quickest way to start an argument is with a discussion of uniform combo preference.
I'm not particularly superstitious, especially when it concerns what uniforms we wear, but of course I do like some better than others. Loved the black for the game against BSU, the helmets were badass. Not a big fan of orange pants and/or jersey, but this helmet with the all maroon gets a thumbs up from me based on the limited pictures.

This has to be a permanent fixture in our rotation going forward. Add a maroon that has the same reflective sheen and a similar gigantor logo, and I'm happy. And if Nike uses these as the basis for our new uniforms going forward, even better.
This, a maroon version, and the tricolor helmets. For the love of God, let that be our rotation in the future.
I do think the maroon should be the primary helmet. If we used the orange 1 or twice a year and the tricolor once and the maroon the rest, I would accept that as a win.
These helmets though would look awesome on top of white unis. I wouldn't be opposed to using it for some away games.

I like. Under the lights with all maroon this helmet is gonna play tricks on our eyes with the lighting and shadows. It will have a maroonish look to it in certain shadows which you can kinda see in this picture

I have never seen us wear orange pants well. Never, not once. And I was at the tragic "Maurice DeShazo Throws All The Picks UVA" game.
It's all hard to speculate until we see how the helmets look in person under the lights, I feel like there's a different shade in every picture. That said, the current jerseys have never bothered me, but I think this would look good without the stripes (or maybe I'm just nostalgic for '03 Miami).
IMO if they match this helmet with the orange jersey it would look hideous. The oranges wouldn't clash sooo much it would be an eye sore.
