We'll get our first real look at how competitive this year's edition of Buzzketball will be on November 27th. That'll be a hell of a game against the Cyclones.

I don't, in fact I think this is the first year in a while that we don't lose to a lowly OOC opponent at home. Baby steps. We may not be under .500 overall by seasons end, but I expect a much improved team than last year.
I predict that year 3 of the Buzz era will be the year that we breakthrough and make some noise.

ACC is the SEC of basketball. You don't need a great OOC schedule. You already play great teams during regular season. Plus we have 2 great OOC games in Iowa State and WVU. And annual ACC-Big10 match up in Northwestern.

How'd that work out for Seth Greenberg teams? In 09 or 10 we won 10 or 11 ac games, 24 overall, and missed the tournament. OOC matters unless you're a Respected program in a power conference. We don't get the benefit of the doubt duke would

Definitely excited for the Northwestern game. Joey is a great kid and I know he'll be excited to be back in Cassell. Too bad GT is away, would have liked to see Adam come back to Cassell as well.
Also, with football starting and the basketball schedule being released, is summer officially over? And where the heck did it go?

Meh. Not really the schedule I was hoping for. I could have been happy with this if it weren't for the fact that the WVU, NCState, and UVA stretch are in the middle of winter break. So much for the student section at those games...

I knew the schedule had been out for a bit, but I just looked at it for the first time. We have one away game before January. Has Tech ever had a schedule that loaded with home games before?

Both the Alabama State and Jacksonville State games are part of the Emerald Coast Classic.
...
Tech will travel to Destin, Florida to compete in the Emerald Coast Classic on Nov. 27-28. The Hokies will play Iowa State in the semifinal on Friday night and either UAB or Illinois on Saturday evening. Friday night's game and Saturday night's championship game will be televised nationally on the CBS Sports Network.
If the Alabama St and Jacksonville St games are part of the Emerald Coast Classic, how do we know that we'll be in the semi-final against Iowa State? Don't you usually have to win something before you make the semifinals?

I think each team plays two games before going to Destin against other teams that will go to Destin, so there is some intermixing in the first round, but the results just don't effect the games played in Destin. These early season tourneys are always kinda wonky like that.

It's still weird that there are zero games in Greensboro without the ACC tournament in town this year. It feels like the Coliseum is still in denial, being that the ACC Hall of Fame is still there with the logo plastered everywhere as you drive by.

Greensboro won't realize for a year or two what they lost. My dad lives in Winston and works in Gboro, I don't think he's going to.miss the traffic, which usually by Thursday he was done with work anyway

So with Outlaw redshirting and Hill possibly out to January or February (if he is out until February he may redshirt too) I am hoping that Hudson can take the next step. I am expecting a breakout year for him (the Wake game in the ACC tourney last year was a beauty to watch.)

Very weak home schedule for students
Yeah, the ACC screwed us with the conference home schedule... again.
Why would they look out for us? We've been the doormat for each of the past what, 3 seasons?
We want respect, we have to earn it.
Oh I agree, I just hope that the players are tired of it as the fans are.
I get a feeling that the conference schedule will start look more and more appealing over the next couple years as Buzz and co. continue to improve.
NCSU
UVA
Wake
UNC
Louisville
Clemson
FSU
PITT
Miami
who are we missing of any import besides @Syracuse and @Duke?
Non conference has no games worth attending and the UVA game is over break along with others.

I like it. A little disappointed in our non-conference home schedule. I think it's really strange that we play at Radford, that will be interesting.
May have something to do with them beating us last season. winner gets home court advantage the next season?
Could be wrong, but I think it's the back end of a 2 for 1?
Key OOC games:
Iowa State
Northwestern
St Joes
WVU
Woof.
Pitt, UNC, L'Ville, UVA, NC State and WVU are the only home games of note.
OOC schedule is awful.
How so? Iowa State and WVU should be top 25 teams and St. Joseph's ain't exactly a pushover either.
Illinois/UAB are good teams as well.
Meant the home schedule.
Hard to get people to show up to see Arkansas Pine Bluff, Grambling State and Lamar.
I see us losing at least one of those, too

If Grambling brings their band, that is a must attend game
UAB has a team?
Robert Brown says hi
My mistake, I thought their entire athletic department was shut down, was it just football?
Just football.
Nearly made the Sweet 16 last season, led by nobody other than Robert Brown.

The joys of a committee..... Yet, folks will tell me the NCAA hoops tournament is the fairest championship.
I'll be at the Radford game. Kinda glad it's at RU bc it's closer to my house.
I was already gonna be in Destin for Thanksgiving. I got waaaaaay too excited when I saw that on the schedule.
I'm there all year round. I'm definitely excited.
Definitely excited for the Northwestern game. Joey is a great kid and I know he'll be excited to be back in Cassell. Too bad GT is away, would have liked to see Adam come back to Cassell as well.

Pretty much always just 1 or 2 away games before January.
weak schedule = wins = better schedule in years to come. right?
I firmly believe we're going to surprise a lot of people this year. Wouldn't surprise me a bit to see us in the NIT.
I'm confused.
If the Alabama St and Jacksonville St games are part of the Emerald Coast Classic, how do we know that we'll be in the semi-final against Iowa State? Don't you usually have to win something before you make the semifinals?
pretty sure its a 4 team tournament. they're pretty common early in the bball calendar every year
Okay, but if the 4 teams are Iowa St, UAB, Illinois, and VT, how are Jacksonville State and Alabama State involved? Or was that a typo?
I think it's eight teams, in two separate 4-team brackets. I don't think the two brackets intermix [EDIT: at the Destin location].
This one:
VIRGINIA TECH VS IOWA STATE
UAB VS ILLINOIS
and this one:
ALABAMA STATE VS CHATTANOOGA
CHICAGO STATE VS JACKSONVILLE STATE
I think each team plays two games before going to Destin against other teams that will go to Destin, so there is some intermixing in the first round, but the results just don't effect the games played in Destin. These early season tourneys are always kinda wonky like that.
Yes, I think you're right.
Both of those first two games are part of the Emerald Coast Classic. It's like NIT, they play the first couple rounds at various colleges.
Hopefully this will clear the confusion.

It's similar in structure, but if I'm understanding it right, the early matchups in Destin are pre-determined.

I would say 3 major games at home, UNC, Louisville, and UVA.
and UVA game is smack dab in middle of winter break. there wont be many students if any there
Given our recent success, aren't all the home games major?
Got a bad draw with Northwestern in the Big Ten challenge. Can't blame whit for that.
Otherwise:
WVU, NCST, LVILLE, UNC, UVA, PITT
Two preseason top 6 teams
Not the best but could be worse.
Why is Northwestern a bad draw?
JVZ
Bad draw, but great television.

He was a beast vs. Duke too if I'm remembering correctly.
It sounds to me like Med could be ready by about December. I think if he isn't by then, he will redshirt.
