On the ACC Football Coaches Teleconference Wednesday, Frank Beamer was asked about tight end Kalvin Cline's status for the Hokies' upcoming game against Ohio State. Cline was noticeably absent from the depth chart Virginia Tech released on Monday. Beamer punted and deferred those on the call to Tech's training staff. Mike Barber of the Richmond Times-Dispatch followed up with head athletic trainer Mike Goforth and reported Cline is healthy for Monday night.

This is very important. The Hokies have 3 solid TEs that will allow them to be versatile and multiple on offense.
"We got three tight ends that are really good players," quarterback Michael Brewer said at ACC Kickoff. "We feel like they can all play on the field at the same time. I think you'll see a lot of two tight end sets. And obviously you'll see some three tight end sets. You'll probably see a lot of two tight end sets, and then be able to have them flex, have them tight, basically put a lot of strain on the defense because of the multiple things they bring to the table, in the run game and the pass game."
Virginia Tech will try to leverage its favorable situation of three versatile, and proven, tight ends on the roster, and create mismatches in both the pass and run game.
"I think the real positive thing about our offense is three tight ends there (Ryan Malleck, Bucky Hodges, Kalvin Cline), that are tough kids," Frank Beamer said at ACC Kickoff. "They'll block inside for you, then you get them out in space and they get matched up on a linebacker or a strong safety and they give you some options there. They're good in space."
Cline caught 26 passes for 321 yards and two touchdowns as a true freshman in 2013. He missed most of the 2014 season with a knee injury, and was granted a medical hardship waiver.

Fully Dipped!!!!!
not only does Kalvin give our offense more weapons, his presence on the field also upgrades our style factor
Im digging the Gwen Stefani cameo.
hot.
unintentional Corps joke?
Doh. Never mind, misread your post.
and I guess you see what I saw
I absolutely did. Need my afternoon coffee.
Were rich!
Malleck, McMillian and Ford to one side and Bucky or Cline on the other. Don't deny them their Pussy Touchdowns.
Oh no... you left off Sam Rogers
may he have mercy on your soul
I'm expecting the hammer any moment, but I thought it was well known that Sam has the whole backfield to himself.
I'm sure it was all just a big misunderstanding about Nike's contract not letting us have any other brands on the field.
The last of the Hokie tight ends to check in at full health. One might say Kalvin Cline was fashionably late -
Could it possibly Be? It seemed to take an Eternity. I tried not to let his health become an Obsession. But now I'm feeling Euphoria. We have a lot of talented playmakers, but I think Kalvin might be the One.
Well played, Illinois Hokie -
I hate you both. Ugh.....puns......
Oh, who am I kidding?!
Euphoria is a real nice beer from DuClaw.
Formations to fit personnel? to fit advantages?....WTF? You got to be kidding me.
Go to a sleep for a couple of years and dogs and cats are living as one.
One thing I love about having 3 versatile TEs is that we can run Brewer, our 5 OL, Bucky, Malleck, Cline, Rogers, and a RB, and we can do so many things. Power run, spread any 2 TEs out wide, pass to Rogers, the possibilities lead to many different mismatches if a team isn't prepared for the options available there.
I keep having visions of this heavy set in the red zone...will we run it? or throw it? Muah-haha!
This. Our jumbo set has five legit pass receivers.
Start with this as a power set and then send the RB on a wheel route. Didn't Lefty say the RBs were getting some reps are WR?
In theory, you could run 2 RBs instead of Rogers in there, but either way you have a passing option with your RB/FB
Id leave Rogers in. He's a threat to run, catch, AND pass. If you went hurry up, no huddle with that set you can do A LOT.
I agree. Rogers will be on the field as much as we can get him in there. Just another iteration of the formation. Either way, I think it would be interesting to see us throw them out there and go 5 plays with the same personnel because we can do many different things with those 11 without needing to sub them.
100% with you. You could also sub out Rogers for Ford and line up Malleck in the back field to start. So damn many possibilities.
...............Bucky...JGlock...Teller...Gallo...Conte...Hansen...Malleck
...............................................................Brewer.....................................................Kline
......................................................................................Settle
...............................................................Rogers
McMillian?
I mean, I keep hearing anOSU talk about how they have all the QB options to use... its like they don't even realize we have Sam Rogers. Just by scrimmaging against him, our defense is ready
Well what do you think happened to Dadi's finger, Mihota's leg, and even Hansen's foot?
So if he is healthy, does that mean that he hasn't been getting it done on the field?...or is Hill performing just that much better?
He was only left off because of illness. Bucky said Cline made a sick catch yesterday in practice
Cool.
Now I'm wondering if he just meant that Cline made a catch while being ill.
Sick catch; caught sick
One of those two
Who cares? Either way, he caught it!
Sick means sick. Easy to understand unless you're an OSU linebacker.
If OSU and Bama can have fun with their depth charts, so can we.
I'm waiting for the day when the sports media department just hands out the 1999 sugar bowl depth chart and acts like it's perfectly normal.
Does this mean Lefty is back to getting no sleep?
Well he did keep shouting, "Run to the shade, run to the shade!!!" while they were practicing indoors. Dude has to be sleep deprived.....
I think he probably meant shadows, but your point is still valid...
Osu may have 3 QBs, but we've got three tight ends. Let's get them all on the field at the same time
Hate to be a Debbie Downer, but the fact that both Loeffler and Beamer didn't know if he would be available when they were asked about him makes me wonder how much they're planning on using him. Still, glad to hear he's healthy.
Everything is disinformation! It all a ruse! If TT runs out on the field due to some NCAA quirky bylaw I would not be surprised. Gawd I miss watching him.
I'd love to see Tyrod back in Lane. Then we can finally see that prolific option offense ESPN we supposedly ran!
Eggsellent! I love it when a plan comes together!
