Other teams tried to mimic what Virginia Tech did the rest of the season, it mostly didn't work. A big reason for that is because the Hokies have the personnel to execute that kind of defense, and the other teams Ohio State played didn't.
But the Buckeyes also adjusted, drawing up plays that Meyer called "Bear beaters."
which is exactly why we have evolved into the MANBEARPIG defense
and, "#5 It doesn't matter who the starting quarterback is" suspiciously looks like it should be one of the reasons VT will win. Silly poisonous nuts

Ohio State has won in tough places. Virginia Tech's Lane Stadium is one of those tough places. Meyer has never been there, but he said he called some coaching friends who have, and he has compared it to Penn State and said it's supposed to be one of the top five home-field advantages in the nation.
Over the past 20 years, Virginia Tech has an .820 winning percentage at home, seventh-best among power conference teams. Ohio State tops that list at .883.

But bring it up and cue the "every team thinks they have the best atmosphere" dismissals of our "practice field" of a "high school stadium." We'll just have to let them see for themselves on Monday.

Regarding 1, I kind of assume the OC position at anOSU is like the DC position at Alabama: it's there because they have to have one. Urban Meyer is in control of that offense, so I'm not sure how much of an impact OC shuffling is going to make.

I am sure Urban was more involved with the game planning on an offensive side but during the game, the guys up in the booth are key to adjusting since they can see what the defense is doing. Having the OC calling the plays on the sideline could make a difference because he can't actually see what the defense is doing, he has to hear it from others. Also he will be trying to manage the OL and adjust to our schemes while trying to adjust the playcalling to other things the secondary is doing. It could hurt them some.

Interesting article.
I think the point about having untested blocking by their young receivers is great.
Hokies know how much that can effect the run game.
I just hope that our defense is able to swarm Elliott if he gets a seam.

I was drinking the kool aid but I am in the process of throwing it up. I will approach this game as all of last year. I will expect little and scream like hell for the good stuff.. Fool me once shame on you fool me twice same on me.

After talking about MSU and Bama's defense Michael Thomas is asked where Fuller stands, his reply "definitely at the top"... made me giddy. That matchup is vital to the defense's success.

In the top 5 reasons we will win the author points out Navy, yada yada yada, teams lose afterwards, yada, yada yada, statistics. The previous year teams had a winning percentage after playing Navy, except for 2 teams that lost every game or almost every game the entire season, one upset to a team that lost later after playing Navy, IIRC. I don't buy that Navy makes it tough to prepare BS, I'm more worried that this is our first game instead of having a warmup to sort out the kinks.

I also hate that excuse. We play GT every year. Hell, the entire ACC Coastal does. We didn't "choose" to play a team that employs a wishbone/triple option based offense and it seems many anOSU fans are butthurt that they agreed to play Navy and claim that Urban Meyer has said he will never again play Navy. That's just silly. Navy is a historical team and has done well for themselves considering the obstacles in their way for recruiting. And they are the quintessential example of being more than football players. I would consider it an honor to play against folks who signed up to play football at a school knowing that it also meant service to their country. But now I'm rambling. My point is just that it's a tired excuse that holds no water, pun intended.

Asked if Navy would be on Ohio State's schedule again any time soon, Meyer, who didn't have a hand in scheduling this game, had a quick response.
"That one was snuck in without any input from Coach Meyer," he said.
Not sure if that equates to not wanting to play them or setting up the schedule with a cupcake afterwards.
Having served with some boat schoolers I concur with your thoughts. One of the best games, in terms of pageantry, was when we played Navy at the Horseshoe and Joan Glenn doted the i. It was also our NROTC homecoming game so many of us had some mixed feelings during the game.

I think (fair or not) going by what urban and beamer said- Virginia Tech prepared for ohio state the whole fall camp. Ohio state game planned for you guys for less than a week.
Osu doesn't play many triple option teams and I hope they don't anytime soon...
Though we just scheduled army lol

Only works if VT can get on the scoreboard. If it's a real game, it will be a factor.

But they were quick to blame Herman for not using the crossing routes last year... (fans, that is)

One quote I could find was:
