Might be time to try out at tight end. If you can't be on the QB depth chart, then I'm not sure what else is out there.
Logan Thomas, a fourth round pick in 2014, was also cut, a source told ESPN.

If he clears waivers (which he should) he will likely go to the Cardinals practice squad.
He can play somewhere at some position in the NFL. I know its been a joke on here forever, but now might be the time to start catching passes.
I know in college position changes aren't that uncommon, but how common is it to switch positions once you're in the league? I think I remember a Patriots WR moving to CB or S or vice versa, but I can't recall anyone being in the league for a couple of years and going from QB to another position.
Matt Jones went from QB in college to WR in the pros, Michael Robinson went from QB in college to FB in the pros, I do recall those two.
Michael Robinson or Denard (Michigan). I know Denard is now a RB after being a QB and WR @ Michigan.
Regardless, I hope LT either gets moved to the practice squad for another year or is picked up. He might need to start thinking about the TE position.
But he was drafted as a RB. He didn't spend 2 years in the NFL at QB
I didn't remember Denard, but I was talking about Robinson.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Robinson_(fullback)
He was Penn State's version of Bryan Randall, at around the same time we had Randall. FB/TE-sized QB who led his team to a conference championship. Fun fact - Robinson went to Varina (VA), is from Richmond, and is one year behind Randall (draft class, college eligibility), who is from Williamsburg.
Denard got cut also by Jacksonville a week or so ago
Pretty sure your #sources were pulling your leg when they told you that one. If TJ Yeldon doesn't pan out this year, "Shoelace" has a good shot at becoming the go-to guy in JVille.
Denard is still very much apart of Jacksonville's rushing tandem. We cut Storm Johnson.
For what this is worth, the Panthers say that QB Joe Webb takes practice snaps at WR and is on the starting special teams unit as a blocker. Not necessarily a position change, per se, but he pulls double duty. Supposedly.
Terrell Pryor has started games as a NFL QB and is switching to WR.
Marcus Vick played WR for the Dolphins.
/ducks
It served him right to have to spend time in Miami.
Looks like I jinxed LT3 now. D'oh!
First this is not official. Second few college QB's at FBS programs have successful moves to other positions.
To be fair, few FBS QB's are built like Logan...
Sigh, he would've seen the field by now if he had switched to TE.
The Cardinals should have tried Leal
"Thanks. You've been a great audience. I'll be here all week. Try the leal!"
He's never had to block so it would be interesting to see if he can. I'd love to see him try though
Well a crack back on a CB is a far cry from an NFL DE or LB face up on the line of scrimmage
Wait, What? A LT3 thread with no suck it haters gif in response to reasoned arguments that his pro future might not be under center?
What possibly could have changed?
Logan was a great Hokie on and off the field. And he is a phenomenal athlete. There can be no doubt of either of those. I hope to hell he finds a role in the NFL that can take advantage of his athleticism.
This makes me sick.
No jokes, no memes, no sarcasm. If Bryan Stinespring and Mike O'Cain hadn't tanked our QB recruiting, Logan would have been a TE for us. Say what you will, but LT had to be talked into the switch to QB. It was not what he had in mind during his recruiting, and had we had a serviceable QB on the roster, LT would have been catching passes, not throwing them.
And if that had been the case, I can't help but feel that LT would have been Bucky Hodges before Bucky Hodges was Bucky Hodges.
No use crying over split milk, but I can't help but feel that LT was the last, worst victim of the O'Cainspring debacle. Thank god that era is behind us..
If they hadn't tanked our QB coaching, he might have actually progressed as a QB, and made an NFL roster higher than 3rd string.
Let me preface this by saying I have mad respect and love for LT.
I don't think he has the skill set for an NFL QB. You could not ask for a better environment and a more patient coach with a developmental prospect that what Arians provided in Arizona. If LT was going to turn the corner and become the QB we all wanted him to be, it would have happened in Phoenix. It just wasn't in the cards.
And I think he had the skill set to be a lethally dominant TE. Bryan Stinespring, for as inept an OC as he was, is a legitimately great TE coach. He could have turned LT into a beast.
The question now is, is it too late? And if it's not, is it too bitter a pill to swallow for LT to accept that our coaching staff wasted his time for his career at Tech?
He spent the entire season on the roster last year and didn't progress nearly enough forcing the coaches to bring in Simms and Barkley. And that was with proper NFL coaching that was focusing on making him the starting QB down the line.
Outside of Stiney and OCain he's had a lot of good coaching in his career at QB and not much of it has taken. At a certain point you have to wonder....
A leg for you IH. Could not agree more!
Thank ya sir.
PS what the hell ever happened to LAC?
watching LT on Thursday night against Denver, he was nearly perfect, with a beautiful 59 TD pass. if cut, another will give him a try to finish his development. he could be a great fit in Baltimore as back-up or Washington.
might not be a popular opinion here, but if he goes to Washington, his career will end. They are too dysfunctional to develop any offensive talent
FTFY. And as a Redskins fan, I hate that fact.
It's a fact that as a PRO Logan has been more impressive than Barkley throwing multiple TD passes.
He could also be great for San Francisco.
He could bring stability at QB to dysfunctional teams like Washington. IMO.
He just needs to play more and gains experience.
We've seen flashes. I'd think the one offense he could find success in would be Philadelphia. His skill set doesn't fit a lot of team's offenses, but I think Chip could make him a passable starter.
I think with his athleticism it's not that much of a stretch to see him as a passable starter at some point... just not as a startable passer.
If Ariens couldn't get the light to come on for him after all this time, I just don't think it's realistic to think someone else will be able to.
Gruden is a good coach but he got an incumbent QB he had no interest in putting in a system catered to his strengths.
He wants pocket guys no reason why LT couldn't be a pocket guy.
LT seemed to have gotten himself cut a few weeks ago. Who knows what happened, but Arians cut down his time with the ball and even out of certain QB exercises. It seemed clearly personal between Arians and LT. In his interviews he is kind of the anti-RGIII. Underlying RGIII's bombast is a bit of delusion, but it is also a highly aggressive competitor. In Logan's interviews he just seems like he's gonna go out there and do his thing and let fate happen.
Thats great, but most NFL coaches want tigger not piglet as their QB.
It will be interesting to see if they even offer him a developmental spot.
I think he should go play arena or something... as a QB but get ready to play TE at the same time. You need to get snaps and recognition skills. Not sure a practice squad is a great place for him.
He might be VT, but this whole LT thing raises a ? about Arians' judgment. Kid could have had a shot at playing a playoff game first year, but he freaks out and says no way the kid isn't ready. Then the kid plays decently during preseason and he cuts the competition, LT, and trades for a washed up QB. Bizarre. Totally f***ing bizarre. Wash your hands of the kid and cut him... I get that...maybe he just was never gonna read NFL defenses and/or manage NFL offenses. Arizona loses some of the luck they've had the last couple of years I could see Arians getting a quick hook.
"Who knows what happened, but Arians cut down his time with the ball and even out of certain QB exercises. It seemed clearly personal between Arians and LT."
Or it's that Logan isn't all that good.
So by this logic, if the Dolphins signed him that quickly off waivers, maybe he's not "not all that good"?
Or if the Dolphins GM has had his eye on Thomas, maybe, just maybe, he's not "not all that good"?
No, there has to be some crazy conspiracy theory about how the Dolphins are just trying to destroy his career because someone in their front office/coaching staff hates him personally and this is all part of a master plot.
Please not Washington!
No, with the crap show they have going on behind center, the Redskins aren't going to take a chance on underdeveloped talent, outside of drafting it.
At least, in theory, hoping that the current GM doesn't start just bowing to Snyder's whims.
;Yeah but did he make any money?
It is a bit of an insult to athletes to think he could simply switch positions and be automatic. At this point, Logan as a tight end is similar to evaluating a recruit with nothing to go on but physical skills. Let's assume 6 of 10 recruits with Logan's skill set actually are successful in college. Now let's look at the success rate of that 60 percent making it as a starter in the nfl....maybe 2 of those remaining 6. So I'm thinking Logan has around a 20 percent chance of being successful at another position. This is why he hasn't made the switch yet. I realize I have pulled these numbers out of thin air, so take it for what it is.
The problem is, not many NFL programs were willing to take a chance on him as QB and the one who did gave up on the project after 16 months.
It's a shame, but I think if he ever wants to see the field in the NFL, that change needs to be made.
I wasn't disagreeing that at some point he will have to attempt the change. My point is that we have to be willing to accept that he may not succeed at a new position either. And it's not a shot at LT or the VT coaching staff....it is just really hard to be a great NFL player.
Tebow got cut, who is left for Chip at QB up there?
A fragile Heisman winner and Mr. Butt Fumble.
So room for LT if he wants to grab him off the waiver pile
hopefully. #allthehokies
Our coaching staff butchered his future, I feel nothing but pity for Thomas.
Thurst into the QB position and having to carry the offense his last 2 years, getting much more hate than he deserved. He gave everything to the team, and his NFL future is extremely bleak right now because of it.
Say what you will but switching positions isn't as easy as people are saying. He hasn't been a TE for 4+ years. I hope someone picks him up and finally uses the talent he has.
He hasn't been a TE since Junior year of high school.
I think he was a WR in HS. The only game snaps (and almost the only practice snaps) at TE he ever took in his entire career were for the HS All-American game.
I'm not buying the "It should have been obvious he was a TE and not a QB" argument.
You don't know how far you can go until you try, and he shows some signs of competence as a QB. He just never had the consistency.
He also made it a lot further as an NFL QB that most college QBs. Lots of professional scouts have seen some potential.
He's very athletic, so it may well be he finds another position, but not all QBs work out. See: All of college football.
Couple of questions:
1. How do rookies get paid for the pre-season when they have not yet made the 53 man roster? Is that spelled out individually in a contract and can vary or does the NFL have some policy?
2. After being cut, does the cuttee get a bus ticket out of town, meaning what's standard procedure for the post-cut?
Based on a discussion on Hard Knocks last week, they buy the guy a plane ticket home.
rookie contracts have a bonus/up front/guaranteed payment when the contract is signed, then they fall into the normal 16 payments for game weeks if they make the team. the guaranteed money can be anywhere from millions for 1st rounders, hundreds of thousands for middle-late rounders, tens of thousands for late rounders, or just thousands for everyone else. and as mentioned, the team normally pays to ship them back to mama if they get cut...
Looks like Logan has been picked up by the Dolphins
..glad he got picked up. ..not pleased about it being the dolphins though.
