This brings back a memory. Right after this happened when I was in high school our baseball team had a double header with Big Creek WV. Big Creek being so far away the entire school body was bused to the field for the day to watch the game. Right before it started our principal at the time showed up with a box of VT hats. Bland and Big Creek had a moment of silence before both teams were presented with the hats. As small as both schools were, it was a huge gesture that will forever be a very fond memory that I'll always remember.

Big Creek was consolidated with another school back in 2010 I believe was the year. It was scheduled to be demolished, but the place caught on fire very close to its demolition date back in July. It is a suspected by man to be an arson, but it is not proven. Really a sad story. Such a historic school, and always one of the classiest in WV. Keep in mind, Homer Hickam, one of the Rocket Boys, attended Big Creek and then went to VT.

In addition ECU was our first game that season and they had donated money to us to assist with the recovery. Hence we let them come out at the same time as the Hokies for Enter Sandman.
