Excitement level hit 11 when I saw chance of rain!
My brain is on overload, I can't even think straight anymore. I've studied this game so much, watched so much film, and yet I still don't feel mentally ready. I was at a party this weekend and some guys were saying it's unfortunate that we have to get our doors blown open in the first game (I live in B1G country). Been having a GREAT time in Blacksburg today. I didn't fontina hook here and haven't been to a game since I was in middle school. Everyone at the TKP tailgate has been great. I walked 6 miles around campus already, I stopped at the Cellar, Champs, TOTS(sp) and some other place. I also ran into Tim Settle and his family and thanked him and his family from the TKP family.
Edit: He was directing a family member parking the car. I also failed TKP by not getting a picture.

I've been living in West Africa since 2008 and struggled continually trying to watch Tech games. I found the best solution to be a Slingbox, if you have a friend or family member in the States that can connect it to their cable box. When my internet speed is good enough, I can watch anything that my friend/family member can watch on their TV, it's pretty slick.

An hour before kickoff and the East Stands are a quarter anOSU fans. If the trend keeps up I won't be happy. Not to mention I'm a Hokie Club Member and bought th mini season pass and I'm sitting around all anOSU FANS!
In my experience, any visiting fans usually get their long before the Hokie faithful come in. OSU travels well, so there will be more than normal, but I still doubt there will be an overwhelming presence.
Unfortunately my friend (who happens to be anOSU fan) said a lot of Hokies were selling their tickets on the Buckeye sites because they would pay a ton of money to come down. Won't be surprised if 1/3rd the stands are Bucknuts fans :/
That's the thing though...I can see someone willing to make some money, but the other side of it is the opposing fan who is willing to do the opposite and part with it.

We had no offense at that time and they were still putting in pump fake deep passes. I mean watch our play after the QB in Cincy went out in the bowl game. I was actually glad to see them keep the game going instead of kill the clock, because that got Motley more snaps against a lethal defense. I guarantee you that touchdown drive was a confidence booster for Brenden, and you can't stress enough how big that could be going into a short week of practice. "I scored against OSU, I know I can score against Furman..." That kind of thing.
The game was lost when Brewer went out. For all the talk on here about it's an indictment on Lefty to not have Motley better prepared, that's pure emotion talking. Motley isn't a good enough quarterback to beat OSU. But he might be good enough to beat Furman, Purdue, ECU, a Connor-less Pitt and NC State. (That last one is iffy.)

Andrew Ford has already left and never really looked impressive in open scrimmages. Chris Durkin has been inconsistent, and if you don't like Motely, he's unable to beat him out. The only bonafide star that other programs really wanted is Lawson.

Not writing off the season. But this isn't just an offensive worry without Brewer at QB. The defense just gave up 567 yards, and our D is supposed to be pretty damn good this year. I know OSU is the defending Nat Champ, but we've got issues in a lot of areas.

I know this will sound like every fan ever when the qb isnt playing good. But seriously. This is a terrible showing from motley. I don't expect him to come in like OSU qbs did and have no drop off, but he didn't provide relief two years ago in the sun bowl, which could be forgiven because of how young he was. To come two years later and provide almost nothing in the way of providing relief for another starting qb is just really sad. If they don't at least give them equal time next week at Furman to flesh out the difference between them I will be very upset.

The season is far from over guys. That was by far the best offensive team that Tech has played in the Beamer era but I'm really not sold on Motu.
Who knows what happens if Brewer doesn't get injured, I am honestly hoping that Lawson is the starter in his absence.
We should win the rest of the OOC games at least, no excuses not too whatsoever.

Lefty is going to get a ton of negative attention about this being year 3 and things not progressing along like we would all expect. The problem is that he will, once again, be working with a "new" QB and will have to make major adjustments to the system that he would otherwise like to be running. I'm not sure all of that negativity will be warranted.

If anyone is looking for someone to blame then you should be looking at the student conduct board that kicked Reavis out of school. DBU took a HUGE hit with him being sent packing. Because our secondary couldn't lock down the bear was vulnerable. That and moto was no where he was meant to be.
But I say again, a loss against the #1 when we are unranked with our starting QB knocked out of the game does NOT make a season.
OSU didn't exactly air it out tonight. They had some explosive plays and the offense couldn't stay on the field.

That was one of the toughest halves of football I've watched in a while. We had this game. I will go to my grave believing Brewer would have led us to a W. But that doesn't change anything.

From what I saw tonight, we have a run game. And thank God, because that's what we need against Furman, Purdue and ECU.
Defense is legit. Front four are evil. Motu is a weak link. Against most of our competition I think he'll be serviceable. Secondary got caught out of position a couple times, but really only after the wheels came off.
It's all about the QB now. I still think there is a 0% chance of a Lawson redshirt now.
So who else is solid behind Moto? Some of our new guys look ok, but we really haven't any "super studs" at MLB. Oh well, only the first game. We'll see what next week brings.
Motu is our best option at mike. That's worrisome, and I hope he improves over the season. But I did mean it when I said I think he'll be serviceable. I expect our front four to be disruptive enough to take some pressure off Motu.

I just don't like losing by 18 at home and only hearing osu love the whole time. I want our guys to be respected for their efforts on national tv, not acting like they weren't even in the game or mentioning the starting qb breaking his collar bone.

I agree. Where's the real credit and emphasizing from ESPN that anOSU was playing a totally different beast the first half? The excuses were plenty last year on the loss we handed to anOSU and we get no excuse for that. We get no hall pass and go straight to detention.
Time to fire up NCAA football 14...there's some whooping that needs to be done...
The excuses really only started after OSU started going on a tear, and even up until the Big XII completely screwed the pooch on the whole "co-champions" thing, the narrative on OSU was they were on the outside looking in because of the loss to us and the B1G having a down year. It wasn't until they proved they were the best in the nation that the excuses for their loss to us started. Immediately after our game last year, everyone was saying we flat outplayed them. It was only when a national champion lost to a 7-6 team that the need for excuses came up.
So it's clear what we have to do...

Leaving the bar tonight, an alley cat sensed my despair, so it got a tummy rub in the process of my getting back to where I needed to be. It actually helped the mood quite a bit.

A real shame Brewer was knocked out; I really like our odds with him. Gonna be a tough 4-6 weeks finding a stop-gap solution on offense though.

What a tough circumstance for the guys. We very much had OSU in our grasp but no team in the country can go 3 and out repeatedly and keep pace with that team.
Braxton Miller was much more of a factor tonight that I thought he'd be and man, he was outstanding at times. That spin move will be played over and over and over for the next 1.5 years so....ya know....be mentally prepared to relive this one for a while.
We did what no one thought we could do in the 1st half and that is something to be proud of. We should be right in the mix for the coastal and I am really looking forward to it!

I feel cheated. Agree completely with a few posters up that had Brewer not gone down, we would be 1-0. The whole team seemed to pack it in at that point. Granted, the D probably didn't, but we're exhausted cause they couldn't get off the field. Ho hum. I'm a sad panda
The defense had a bad night. But did anyone else notice that the Mike linebacker play was exceptionally bad. Motuapuaka was just not in the game. And not that he was alone in this but he doesn't run through the ballcarrier when he does make a tackle.
A non factor - really. non factor. poor reach, poor instinct, poor tackling skill. Have to believe someone else will get some time there. Bud gave a lot of coach speak on him this summer.
Oh and its time to admit that right now Rogers is the best running back on the team.
This is true, but the running game in general looks more promising. The problem now is, all defenses will stack the box against us until whoever the starter is can prove he can beat them with his arm.
1. OSU is an elite bunch. Explosive, dynamic, an embarrassment of riches in depth. They were the better team.
2. Brewers loss cannot be understated. physical talents aside, his leadership and confidence in the huddle will be missed greatly. The next 10 days is a QB audition.
3. Moto is making too many misreads. He consistently got tied up behind the DLine, plugging the wrong hole.
4. I understand everyone's frustration. But keep this in perspective. The season is not lost, Frank and company just have to figure out how to win with what we have.
5. The next 2 weeks will really define the season moving forward. Will the team rally around our QB? Or will everyone be pointing fingers?
6. Please don't use the Lords name in vain. I can stomach comments expressing anger and disgust, but I draw the line with the above.
7. Go Hokies. Let's right the ship and win some ball games, one week at a time.
