Sometimes somebody says something that just gives you a window into their thinking. In today's local Charlottesville paper, the Daily Progress, we get an insight into the LOLUVA mindset, courtesy of Jerry Ratcliffe. It's a creepy place to be, for sure. The link to the full article is below.

The key part is a quote from Jon Oliver, the executive associate athletic director: “To me, success at Virginia, and I don’t care what anybody says, means seven or eight wins a year,” Oliver said, knowing that a large portion of his fan base might not agree. “You have to be realistic and if you get lucky and something great happens, then boom, that’s gravy.”
So, if I understand the man correctly, the administration at wahooland is quite happy to regularly go 8-4 or 7-5. Nothing like setting high goals, I guess. This is the big difference in the focus of VT's coaches and administration, and the poor shlubs at hoovile. Our coaches aren't content with anything less than ten wins and an ACC championship, and the boys in blue are content with a minimal winning record. I hope all the alumni at LOLUVA enjoy wallowing in their mediocrity.

God that is so sad. Being content with going practically .500 when you play 2-3 out of conference cupcakes, Duke, and a few other terrible ACC schools each year. Our recruiters need to show this to UVA recruits and ask them if this is really where they want to play college football.
And not to be the grammar police, but tenaciousness? The word you are looking for is tenacity.
Someone post that to the Twitter feed of everyone that is considering UVa and VT. Decisions will be made right and left. VT wants championships. UVa wants mediocrity.
I don't have a twitter account, but someone please make sure that every coach on staff gets this...this could be a powerful recruiting tool! I hadn't thought about it until it was mentioned here, but someone with a twitter account do this for me.
Don't worry, I tweeted that to CJ Reavis with the message, "you know what to do." I have confidence that this will be brought to the attention of the right people.

Also, the "And" you start your sentence with is unnecessary.
But yeah, you're right UVA sucks.
I know it's a word, but I've never heard anyone say it before. I don't really understand why anyone who makes a living out of writing would use it. I used "and" because it's somewhat of an afterthought. Kind of like, "but yeah".
We need to get some of the pathetic quotes from this article circulating, though.
This made me think of this.
Wow. That is stunning. If you figure a team plays 2-3 gimme games a year, that means he wants to go .500 against the real schedule. Talk about ambitious.
And yet, with the bar that low, London still can't reach it 2/3 years...
Wow, just wow. I still don't understand why highly rated recruits go to UVA. I give London 3 more years he can sell the "I'm an ex-cop" line to recruits.
Ahem...
Never gets old!
Other than him saying he matters and calling us "va" Tech, this is amazing.
Edit: I never knew there was a second part. Almost better than the first part
I forgive him for the "Va Tech" part, because those rants are epic.
He doesn't even say our name wrong the right way. Vah is annoying, VAAW is asshat level.
punch them in the throat
JW, how do you actually embed video on a post instead of just having a link? Also, I always enjoy listening to this.
Below the video, click "Share," then the "Embed" tab, then copy and paste the HTML provided.
Thanks for the help VTGuitarman and ohherro. I feel kind of dumb for not even looking on the youtube side of it, but at least I know how to do it now.
"who gives a flying can of worms" and "I'd rather win football games weenie" are my favorite lines
Thanks for re-posting these Wise......always a great listen.
Oh my goodness.... I love my life.
"wine and cheese and Armani pitchforks"
Hey, 8-4 gets you Coastal Division Champion rings.
...#goacc
In that case, we deserve more rangs for 2008!
That UVA rant might be the greatest thing that I've ever heard. Brought tears of joy to my eye.
Also, please note that the article is part 1 of 2. I can't wait to see what gems Ratcliffe gets them to admit to tomorrow. If part 2 is as good of a recruiting tool as part 1, we may be able to pull in even more VA recruits.
The more I think about this article, the more fascinating a psychological study it becomes. Its like they keep wanting to bring back the "glory days" of LOLUVA (as if there were some), when Welsh was coach. This is no better than a drunk in a bar crying in his beer about what might have been. Cowherd couldn't have been more spot-on.
I have a few recruiting slogans for UVa based on this story:
"Trying to be as good as our rival's worst season since before all of you were born"
"Striving to win as many games as the ineligible schools in our division, because apparently that means we're champions"
Because I can't resist (based on nothing in particular):
"It's OK, we go for ice cream afterwards"
"We kick cars instead of field goals." Thanks smoke!
"Ice your expectations with a timeout."
hahahaha. how did I miss this the first time?
"Turning 5 star recruits to losers, since 2010"
"Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose, but you can guarantee we will have a new coach at least every 5 years."
"It's okay to cry"
With all the rings coming out for no reason I can see UVA's saying "6-7 Bowl Eligible. On the Rise"
With the Richmond Police insignia on one side
Hey, it is simply #LOLUVA.
No further discussion needed.
I'm going to get a lot of miles out of this.
Replace the medals with a Richmond PD badge and it will be even better.
I thought that was what was peeking out from under the left hand shoulder of his coat.
Ok the second installment from Jerry Ratcliffe of the Daily Progress is out. Here's the link.

I didn't see anything as blatantly stupid as the quotes from Oliver in the first article, but overall hoo-ishness is throughout the article. Oliver was apparently the driving force behind getting O'Brian back at Jeffy-U, but one wonders, given his 2 yr. deal, if Oliver is setting it up for OB to be the successor to London. It certainly smacks of that.
With home games against BYU, Oregon, Clemson and us, and away against Pitt, UNC and Miami, I don't see them winning 6 games and making a bowl next year either. That puts London on the hot seat in my book. LOLUVA was embarrassed by London's antics on the sidelines last year as well. They're fine with losing at football, but it's a rule that losing needs to be done "gracefully". O'Brien would be a great successor, even one that could take over mid-season if LOLUVA starts out 1-5 or 2-6 (with losses to Ball St or Maryland). I give London a 50-50 chance of making it through October with Tom O'Frownin' waiting in the wings.
I think Mikey makes it through the season, but I think his last game is a loss to us. I put them at 3-9 or 4-8. I think they loose to BYU, Oregon, Pitt, GT, Clemson, UNC, Miami, & VT. I think they win VMI, Ball St., and pull out a win against Duke and/or/maybe UMD.
I could watch this all day!
