Hey, how come Scoobs ain't in this gif?
We don't talk about Scoob after the incident.
Clearly Scoobs is the only one taking his mystery solving job seriously enough to not participate in this dance party.
It still blows my mind that Don Draper had an affair with Velma. That had to shake Mystery Incorporated to the bone.
Somewhere, Shaggy is crying.
This was inexplicable in my mind. Draper routinely made dumb decisions when it came to the ladies, but I seldom could criticize his taste. This lady was a big step down from his usual standards. Then again, the whole last couple of years of Mad Men got kinda outta hand anyway. Oh well, ya can't have nothin'.
Bruce Fowler loved the last few years of Mad Men.........and True Detective season 2.
Thanks for the second. Hated TD 2 too, but like Mad Men, I still watched. Bad as they became, still better than far too much of the stuff available on tv.
Yeah, TD2 was awful because it had promise. It wasn't awful in the Castle or Bones context.
Looking for a scoopydo picture of Velma saying "jinkies", DO NOT GOOGLE SEARCH very NSFW
Jinkies indeed.
It's going to be a wet one. Hope to see the running backs show off today. After Monday's preseason game and the ulcer I got from it (not a joke) I hope to see power football.
Leaving Greensboro in just a few minutes.
Let's go!
Hokies!
Hey, fellow Greensboro resident! Enjoy the game!
I actually usually have an extra ticket, so let me know if you ever want to bum a ride and a seat.
The weather won't be very conducive to developing Motley's passing game. That's a shame. But we still have to try throwing it around a bit, just to see what we've got there.
I'm hoping for a dominant performance from both lines, and for two tailbacks to clearly distance themselves from the rest of the depth chart.
Hoping to see at least 250 rushing yards. Motley is a threat to run as well.
Ah yes, thank you for reminding me of the other thing I'll be watching for. Will Motley be allowed to play his game, scrambles and designed QB draws included? Or will we try to force a square dual-threat peg into a round pocket-passer hole?
Hoping it is not the latter. While he may not be Tyrod back there, he should be able to run around and get out of trouble (like he did on the TD throw last week.)
Lefty has said he won't be timid playing to Motley's strengths going forward. I hope that's the case.
I also hope he's serious about finding a clear-cut QB3 and developing him live, because it's a fair guess that Motley will take an injury at some point that's at least serious enough to need his backup to finish out a game.
Yes it will be because after anOSU I'm now officially of the mind that the QBs coach needs to work the 2nd and other stringers harder than the 1st stringer. I agree though, it won't develop statistically.
I'd disagree. This kind of weather gives the receiver a huge advantage on double moves. It may not help Motley turn into Joe Montana with the quick 3 step drop progressions; however it certainly could open up some big play opportunities in the play action game. Some big plays may just be what he needs to gain that confidence. I have my doubts about Motley, but he is a better QB than we saw Monday night.
You're the voice of reason, French. Hadn't thought about the advantages of rain in the passing game. I'm just worried about a not-particularly-accurate passer maintaining a grip and having proper release on a wet ball.
It largely depends on what type of rain we're getting. If the ball is damp without water rolling off of it, it actually gets a bit tacky and can help grip quite a bit. If it's pouring and the ball is drenched, that's when it gets slick and harder to throw. Think Miami vs Marshall in 2013. LT3 said the Marshall game was terrible cause of how hard it was to grip the ball, but the Miami game was actually pretty nice. Looks like it shouldn't be too bad today.
Finally caught up to my smart TV's technology and I'll have ESPN3 streaming in 65" HD glory! (Instead of 12" laptop fuzziness.)
Now, for the food.....
You are smarter than I ! I need my neighbor's help when he comes home.
Now there's something I hadn't thought of- now if I can just figure that one out myself!
LOL--right there with you. I just bought a mini HDMI cable for my tablet so I can use the app and watch on the tube. Saving up for a smart TV!
What brand is your TV? I've never been able to find the watch ESPN app on my Samsung.
Samsung. Go to Smarthub, then web browser.
Then go in browser to ESPN3....live stream game in full screen mode.
I think my TV may be too old. I don't see a browser option.
Yep, only 2012 and on have web browsing capabilities. Well, looks like its time for a new TV! Now how to explain to the wife this a need and not a want.....
I have a brand new 4k Samsung, when i got to espn3 it redirects me to watchespn, which i would expect, but whenever i click a game it tell me i dont have flash, which I also expect, but then when clicking get adobe, it tells me the browser doesn't support it.
Whats your dork magic?
XBOX 360 works well, only use it for ESPN3 and Netflix these days.
Having pork #Butt for breakfast. Is that a recipe for success?
Butt is never a bad idea.
I'm old and don't know how to add a gif correctly. sorry
right click image
click "inspect element"
in the opened box at bottom of browser, click highlighted line, Ctrl C
go back to TKP and Ctrl V into text box
viola
don't see that option with Mac or iPhone. Maybe I'm just technology impaired.
Having it for lunch. Getting up right now to go pull it apart.
#Butt is always good...especially for breaking the fast...
For those of you tailgating, I will be joining Kyle Bailey for a segment on the Hokies Pre-Game show to look back and Ohio Sate and talk about the offense under Brendan Motley going forward. The pre-game show comes on 105.3 The Bear at 12:30. To listen online, click http://www.1053thebear.com/2015/04/19/hokies-flagship-stations/ and hit "Listen Live."
still waiting to hear French on The Bear, guess they're saving the best guest for last
Love reading your stuff, french. Keep up the good work!
What's up with this radio station? I've never been able to get it to play on any browser. It just twirls around like a UVa defensive back trying to load and play.
Is ESPN3 on directv? I thought I saw that. So does that mean that bars with directv will have the game on?
I am pretty sure ESPN3 is online only unless they have the Genie which may be able to get the watch ESPN app.
Purdue on espn2 at noon, ecu on at 7. For those interested in some scouting.
Purdues QB tweaked his back.
They did hit a Hail Mary right before half.
Just picked up a Roku and got the watchespn app. There are a few hoops to jump through to get it set up but should be a nice watching experience.
Roku is pretty cool. Got it for my wife to stream Downtown Abbey (what a good husband I am) and found the sports channels have evolved some.
Its still not a full replacement for cable/satellite, IMO....but I will be happy for the day when it does.
How does roku compare to chromecast?
I'm watching on Chromecast from my Galaxy Note 2 and it looks pretty good.
Anyone else watching Sweat start for Florida State? Dude is slow off the ball
What # is he?
EDIT: Answering my own question here, #9 like he was in high school.
9, defensive end on the right side. Mostly in on passing downs the more I watch it
S Florida giving them a game.
Where can i go to listen to the pregame broadcast online?
I'm actually listening right now while waiting for my next flight at the Philadelphia airport.
Traveling for work and had no say in travel times btw, thanks Navy...
If you have a smart phone get the app also.
I am sooooo glad that preseason game is outta the way. Man, it really feels good getting a fresh start to another season of Hokies football!!!
Play 1, AM overruns the hole.
Looks like Luther Maddy has been dropping back into coverage in the middle on the last two snaps. Interesting.
GD ESPN3 freezing.
And we see Lawson early by default
I still feel bad for Motley. The crowd went wild when Lawson came in, for no reason other than expectations.
Right there with you. Motley's done nothing to not get his shot. I thought it was clear Lawson has more upside, but he's not ready yet. Motley is.
Motley played at a high just down the street from VT, why can't Beamer and Co. Get them to play some type of offense that helps get those players ready for VT system.
/s
Man these ESPN 3 angles are terrible for watching a game.
Not helping that it's being overproduced with constant cuts
Color seem off for you also?
Hadn't noticed it till you mentioned it. Thanks! But yeah, way too close up and too many camera jumps.
I tried streaming it on the laptop and putting it up on my big screen but the picture was worse than fox NFL broadcast. I just went with my iPad and running the audio through my jambox. Small screen but a clear picture that isnt freezing.
Never wear white at home! Like the helmets though. Motley behind on both throws.
theres a good play from moto
wow.
Just.
wow.
That was depressingly reminiscent of the last 8 years.
Not a fan of us running the same play multiple times in a row especially when it didn't work the first time.
Offense looks like it's swimming through molasses. What in the world is going on?
I think they're just unsure right now. Motley doesn't look like he's shitting his pants anymore. I think they'll need a drive or two more then open up. Have faith.
MOTUAPUAKA I LOVE YOU AGAIN.
Well there is that.
I think Motu wanted to get the coaches and fans back on his side! lol
Guess when he's not picking the wrong gap, he's in a good spot to make a pick 6.
When I saw him drop back in coverage and the QB look that way, I thought Motu had an easy one if the ball gets there.
It got there.
Good for Motu.
Great play by Moto that time.
just realized that the stats are showing up on my computer before the play happens on my iPad/tv. . . boo
GO HOKIES!
Pro tip: also stay off Twitter. Anything coming out of ESPN is about 2 minutes behind reality.
Haha, this guy cant spit out the name.
Hahaha I about died when he paused trying to figure it out and still didn't get it
great play by Motu
next... would like to see him blow up a few RBs b/h the LOS
Moto.... Moto..... Notgonnaworkhereanymoreifheplayslikehedidagainstohiostate!
I loved hearing the ESPN announcer say "Andrew" and then wait a solid 7 seconds while scrounging up the courage to butcher "Motuapuaka".
It is nice knowing it will be a touchback almost every kickoff for us this season
The first kickoff I did a doubek take to see where he kicked off from.
Yeah you know Frank Beamer likes that. I like the idea of a sky-high kick that lands on the 2, but I'll take the automatic touchback.
Our kickoffs went through the uprights more often than our field goals.
i laughed...then cried
Come on! Give him another one!
Moto trying to make up for last week
I dont think his arm was moving forward when the ball came out
Probably wont get it
Almost the exact same play was called a fumble last night to kill Utah State's comeback attempt.
The ball went backwards, should be a fumble regardless
That's a really good point... It was a backwards pass.
That announcer is thanking his lucky stars that was incomplete and he didnt have to say motuapuaka again.
wow did not play that option well
Moto is not playing well again
He got cut on the option and then overran the FB dive
Baron just got swallowed on that run
Wow. Motu just completely whiffed there.
Marshall crushed him
I cant tell with this terrible tv production but do we not have anyone coming from the inside to clean up the option play?
Doesn't matter if they call it an incomplete pass. Pretty sure the ball didn't hit the ground.
Does Van Dyke ever lift legs?
Nijman in
wow not running JC up the middle and he got a good yardage run...please keep doing that Shane
Why did he not take that lane?
wow these refs
ACC refs are on fire today. 2 Players were ejected from the FSU game for targeting
Not getting the down right in this game and the stupid personal fouls
One of them went to the replay booth and they confirmed, in spite of the obvious fact that (1) the hit wasn't late and (2) the QB's and defender's heads NEVER touched.
Yeah, the ejection of the USF player was total bull.
Offense is just downright sloppy. Maybe take a shot down field?
Just did and that was the first throw that looked right on time. Course Bucky was the only guy in the middle.
This fucking offense
Right? If seen about enough of Motley. Every throw has been late.
Those were good play calls. Mot is late on his passes.
Malleck would have strolled in for a TD on the last one. Bad throw.
Motely is slightly slow on the read and the ball doesnt have enough zip
Motley is really behind on his throws.
Why am I bored already?
Motley is just... Wow. The throws are there. He can't make them.
He seems to be progressing through his reads though. He wasnt staring the reciever down from what I could see
Gotta disagree. The replay of the malleck incompletion showed him staring him down the whole way. Either way, its taking him too long to go through the progressions.
Completely agree. I was afraid this was going to happen today.
Not what you want to see on offense this far
Please get Motley off the field.
Fayscon is looking good today.
Our offense should be able to put 14/qtr on this team. Pretty disappointing so far.
Yeah when your QB can't complete a pass you can't do much.
Lawson can't be worse than Motley is right now and he actually has a ceiling to improve.
yes. and yes.
How do you know he can't be worse? I'm afraid if the fact that maybe Motley is the best we have right now.
At this point, having burned Lawson's shirt to come in on a handoff, you have to try anything.
I think he will play but to just pull a player not having seen Lawson practice how can we as fans say Motley isn't better?
Of course we can't know that. But because the coaches brought Lawson in for a garbage play instead of Durkin, we know they're going to play him. So they think he is ready enough to see the field. Doesn't mean he's better than Motley, but the shirt is off so it's time to try something. I'm not one to be of the mindset of the Leal truthers but given the circumstance, you try everything here.
Hoping that he won't score less than 0 points per quarter? I am hoping they put him in for a fair amount of drives so we can find out what he has. Crossing fingers.
...because anyone can hand off the rock - and maybe hit the occasional wide open Bucky. -_-
Motu takes a bad angle. Had to run the back down from behind.
these refs
Really two unsportsmanlike penalties in the 1st qt!!!
#GO ACC
Not gonna cut it in the ACC.
we're up poop creek w/o a turnaround on D
Offense is disciplined, Motley just can't make the throws. Defense...too many penalties already. Simmer down.
Kendall and Facyson look sharp today
We should replace any starting player that has the fist three letters on their uni stating with Mot
Motu looks okay. I don't get the hate for him.
Because he looked bad against OSU, Miami and BC. Who all ran all over us
He isn't going to be challenged to do things that he sux at against teams that aren't power teams. He won't have shhot a gap and tackle a RB behind the LOS till Pitt. He';; appear to be OK, but as soon as we meet Pitt...
these refs
It is a day of slow starts outside of the BC game...
I wish we would play an FCS team too so we can score 76 points! Oh, wait . . . =)
Can anyone fact check, is Tre Edmunds the first player to have his full name on his jersey for Tech?
Not his full name. It would be "Trey" but his real given name is Ferrell.
And it's pronounced "Kevin".
Trey doesn't look really decisive in picking a hole yet. Needs more touches.
I was hoping the backs would get some more reps to help with finding the holes
More touches for JC please...Jc when not a run up the center is really helping the offense
Bucky is in fact on the field
bucky is on this team?
That was a beautiful toss. In stride. Nice.
Fantastic pass by Motley. Hi Bucky.
Go throw by motely...lets see if he is warmed up now
Either this team isn't as talented as we felt like it was, or their is still an issue with coaching.
Very disappointing 1st quarter
Trey gets a rhythm, and he gets subbed out. I don't get our rotation at all.
Going well for the other D-2 games
The 45-yard field goal attempt by Yoon is good. The Irish lead 12-0 with 0:07 seconds left in the first quarter. #NDvsUVA
Im referring to that game as Smug Bowl 2015.
Would our 2s & 3s win this game? i don't wanna see starters in the 2nd half, so let's get some points this qtr
Our offensive starters need all the time they can get right now. We are dead in the ACC if we look like this later in the season
Motley needs to work on his touch.
That was an LT3 pass. Needs to throw sooner with touch, not hold it so long and then burn it in. Also, 6'-6" QB needs to remember that some of his receivers are 6'-0".
Motley os only 6'3", no?
You're right. It's Lawson who's 6'-6".
Wow. Edmunds crazy pigeon-foot cost him a TD.
Great play call by Lefty.
Dont step out of bounds!!!
Make that two great playcalls in a row.
Airplane sighting in he NEZ
Outstanding end to that series. Trey threw a great block in front of Motley to get into the endzone. Very nice. More of that, please.
Agreed. I can't take this edge of my seat mess against FCS teams...too many JMU flashbacks. *twitch*
Oh look who's finally here!
Tardy to the party is better than a complete no show, right?
...at least that's what I'm going with. Makes me feel better.
Trey is asserting himself this game. I see lots of players picking up the gauntlet after Monday. Lots of chips on shoulders.
Yeah, even the personal foul calls against Corey and Luther didn't make me that upset. Glad they're fired up.
starting to look better
Quick question. I missed the first few min of the game. Did we have a fumble that was overturned or negated bc of a penalty? I thought I saw on Twitter that Furman got a fumble recovery.
No, their QB fumbled but it was called an incomplete pass.
This is exactly what I would expect to see on offense if we were starting a true freshman at QB. Not sure why everyone is freaking out..... Oh wait... -_-
We replaced our procedure penalties with unsportsman like and Lville lost to Houston.
The way Motley was wearing that headset reminded me of Ted Striker's drinking problem.
Ugh. Glad to see the 3rd down shut down, but it looked like Motu about ran himself out of that play too.
At this point, would it kill us to give Huelskamp some reps?
Motu looks like Most Improved to me. He's hitting every play hard -- no hesitation at all. He may not be making every assignment, but he's busting his ass and playing well.
That was an ugly play
Here we go Lawson!
just a tease
Ford YAC!
Love having players with that ability.
I don't think he got touched.
What vision by Ford!
"Dwayne Lawson, the truth freshman." Man I hope that slip turns out to be prophetic. Maybe we'd find out if he ever gets to actually run a pass play.
Ok. I don't understand this QB sub at all.
QB is the new RB.
That was ridiculous. Wasted play.
Gaahhhh they're killing me with bringing Lawson on and off. Feel like my emotions are on a yo-yo. I really want to see what this kid can do.
Motley settling in with his passing.
I see coaches right now making good ply calls, but still not terribly sure what to do with the QBs. Weird subs if Lawson is just going to run
i'm getting sick
We have four half backs already. Run a wild turkey instead of Lawson taking hits.
Lawson is built to take the hits. If their D keys off on a run every time he's in, think maybe that sets up a hell of a passing opportunity later?
Assuming Lefty calls a pass for him. It took like 3 games for him to call a pass for Motley
At least Lawson is getting in-game snaps and getting knocked around a little? Maybe the goal is just to get his feet wet, get him feeling comfortable? I don't know. It's definitely weird to watch.
Hate kicking FG's against FCS teams. Also hate missing them. Keep attacking HOKIES!
Is Loeffler on acid?
This is making me laugh a lot harder than it probably should.
Calm down people. The coaches are using this as a live scrimmage to see what Tech has with the preseason game plan thrown in the trash.
Meanwhile the practice squad is actually trying to win the game.....
Not sure this team is good enough right now to treat anything like a scrimmage
Our offense, in one image:

You misspelled a word, but I'm not gonna point it out
Nothing is misspelled, and you did attempt to point something out. This post is nonsensical.
Motu is pretty much useless 3 plays out of 5.
I'm watching a different game than you. He's already got one TD, another called back, and he's been in on practically every tackle.
So those two TDs are the other 2/5 plays where he isn't useless. Yay math!
Sorry, did Motuapuaka actually score another touchdown on a play that was called back? Not having good time trying to follow this game.
He had a legit pick-6 in the first series. The next series, their QB got hit as he threw. It was ruled an incomplete pass. Motu picked it up and ran it in, but it was never ruled a TD, so nothing was called back.
Yep. Fumble was ruled an incomplete pass. Our defense is getting pretty well hosed on calls so far.
I dunno. It sure looked like a pass, not a fumble.
Didn't look like he ever actually got the arm forward.
I've been watching him specifically more than anyone else on defense. I'll defer to the experts, but to my eyes he is still taking himself out of plays, not shooting gaps, not shedding blocks. Being in on a tackle 5 yards on the wrong side of the line of scrimmage isn't what we expect of our Mikes.
Dropping back into coverage for a really easy pick 6 is nice, but that was an INT that was created by scheme and the QB not noticing Motu was dropping back.
I'm just not seeing a lot to be hopeful for, particularly when we meet GT, and the fact that he's still in there tells me we have no dependable depth there.
I'm seeing the same thing you are in regards to Motu...he doesnt use his hands well enough to shed blockers, and is quick to run himself out of a play due to misdiagnosing where he needs to be.
i'm getting sicker
That's the bad Beer,,,,
Why is our starting 11 D still on the field? And getting beat?
Because Virginia Tech.
...just like that they sub our DL and get good penetration.
Edit: 3x
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that something will click for the offense, meanwhile the defense is starting to give up some plays.
...and taking them right back.
I think we're giving them the outside/speed option on purpose. Is this the slow play I've heard about?
The defender on the edge has to take the pitch man or slow play to force the play to the inside where there is help
You'd think they'd be prepared for it ... they spent all summer preparing for it, and all Monday defending it when it wasn't there ...
finally the d is taking away the pitch man
We are a 6-6 football team
Wow not even 6 qts of football into the year.
Do you see Motley improving enough to support our offense until Brewer is back? He has been here 3 years, was tied number 1 at the depth chart at one point and is still playing like this. We are struggling against a middle of the road fcs team. It's not a leap to say we are going to win 5-7 games this season.
Up 14 and they are struggling. So what would you call Auburn?
What does Auburn have to do with us?
Also struggling? I don't get your point. Just because they struggled more doesn't mean we're not struggling.
I'd say what Auburn did against an FCS team struggling, what VT is doing is finding a QB and offense to run for the rest of the season after losing the 1st string.
... and this is not a "real" game. It's a noisy scrimmage.
Thats true. We would never lose to an FCS team
Exactly. People are acting like this team has been so good the past 3 years or so that we can just scrimmage during a live game.
It wasn't about whether we "can" scrimmage during a live game. We had no choice. We had no QB and some serious questions on D. We had to use a live game situation to get Motley up to speed. He struggled badly for two quarters. Then he seemed to get it. Next week we find out if he really got it or just got lucky.
During a love game.
Anyone else have a Woody? ;)
Baron is looking good!
Motu can not get off blocks. If Baron hadn't made the tackle on the QB keeper, Motu was a long way away.
Bend Dont Break
This is one angsty thread right now. My goodness.
Lots of people want to call the season now. Let'em play.
I agree. I mean we don't look great right now but honestly, when your #1 QB goes down in the first game, there will be some time needed to adjust. I'm not thrilled at the moment but I'm not ready to throw in the towel yet. We're still winning this so far and hopefully it'll stay that way.
Nice. Mot is definitely looking like he's settling down.
I like taking that shot there. Gotta get on the same page as the receivers tho.
I'm getting worried our O personnel. Ford, Phillips and Malleck do no need to be playing every down of this game?
Imagine our WR depth if we have an injury?
no runs that whole possession? seriously?
Looks to me like Lefty is using this game as an opportunity to see how Motley and Lawson look. He's not play-calling the way he would in a "normal" game.
I understand that. But still you gotta run the ball to set up more manageable throws IMO. especially for Motley.
We've proven we can run. Motley needs live passing practice.
Understandable. But why not run and set up some more manageable throws? Have him throw to the sticks and get in a rhythm. I actually like the shots downfield but I'd like to see some more throws over the middle of the field.
Fuller!!!
That punt for touchback was on Hughes, but the coverage team is not doing the job. When Hughes is aiming for the 10 yard line, should the coverage guys be running down to the 2 and looking back?
these refs
almost as bad as the USF-FSU game earlier.
That was a make up for the two times they did get there early in the first qtr.
Wow. Ball is 5 ft over the head of the WR who is at the apex of his jump, contact is simultaneous anyway, and it's a PI? Really?
Beamer's friggin' pissed. Can't say I blame him. No way that receiver was going to catch that.
Kendall would have had that anyway.
I caught the first part of this game on the radio, so couldn't see the plays. I really feel like the refs are making some bad calls. Like we got the 3rd string refs for this game.
Why are people asking about why our first string skill players are still out there?
Perhaps because we have one drive against a middling FCS team and Motley looks like he has been here 1 season instead of 3. They need to get things figured out before our schedule gets stated, and you can't do that on the sideline
Exactly. Motley has to get on the same page as Ford, Philips, Bucky and Malleck. I'm sure if Brewer was healthy we'd be plumbing the depths of the roster.
I understand getting on the same page. And am not saying wholesale playing sexism stringers. But Ford and Phillips played the entire game last week (and almost every snap last year). Fatigue leads to ineffectiveness and injury.
Plus, this is a good chance to get the 3,4,5 receivers some work.
Edit: second stringers (too funny to change)
o.O
I love autocorrect.
Hilarious...and beer induced.
Agree 100% Motley and Lawson both need to work with Ford, Phillips, Hodges, Malleck, Rogers, and Kline as many snaps as possible. I hope nobody gets hurt, but this is the best possible opportunity for them to play together.
Meanwhile the DL seems to be subbing pretty frequently -- the 2's are getting lots of reps. I saw Alexander and Shegog out there, too.
Only 6 quarters into the season, but Clark has been the best DB on this team.
The good news is we found The next UVA Head Coach
I'll take 6 yards a carry. I want to see Ford with some more screens
what the hay is going on with lolUVA at the moment?
Apparently they used a trick play to get up on ND before the half. o.O
I would be fine with UVA knocking them off. Do not want to see ND in the playoff, and what a good laugh that would be
Anyone else notice the 6 penalties for 60 yards that half?
looking better...Motely seems to be settling getting the ball out with some sizzle now.
Well. That was a half of football.
I think Motley consistently overthrew deep routes in spring (can anyone confirm?) and it doesn't look like much has changed. He had Ford wide open for a walk in TD and couldn't put it in his reach :( He started off with late throws all over the field but it looked like he was starting to get more comfortable with the timing going into the second quarter which is encouraging. I liked the play to Hodges at the end of the first. That looked like a pretty good throw down the middle of the field. I wonder if we'll see any of Durkin in the 2nd half
Every deep miss I've ever seen has been overthrown
The others are called "interceptions"
7 points from the O.
Feels like any of the last 10 years.
Solid D. Painful O.
Was Brewer Johnny U? Didn't we actually look good last week in the first half on O?
uva 14 nd 12 at the half. I hate nd more than uva.
Guess Shane boy will be using the RB merry-go-round system once again this year.
It's an FCS team they are trying to get reps.
I've lost my ESPN3 feed. Do they shut it down during halftime? Or is it just my network?
mine is still strong
mine too
Still going, but mine lagged several times and outright cut out twice in the first half.
Mine's still up. They just replayed the story about Alabama's kicker from last week's Gameday.
At the half stats:
Motley is 7 for 14, 113 yards, 8.1 YPA, 3 carries for 28 yards, 9.3 ypc.
Trey, JCC and McMillian are all averaging 5.0 ypc or better.
The word of the day is chemistry. Get everyone in sync and we can succeed with this team.
Did someone say chemistry? *perks up* Sorry... had to.
But yeah. There have been sparks of goodness when everyone's been on the same page. I think if Motley can get his cannon under control, we'll be pretty alright.
Well there's stats and then there's the eye test. Based on the game flow, if u're not concerned about playing ANY fbs oponent whom by now is unlikely to respect our passing game...then kudos to your confidence.
Is it too soon to talk about the noticeable drop off in WR development since Moorehead? #TooSoonOrNah
Actually, it seems like they're blocking a little better than previous years.
Since we basically have two guys and no one else is playing, I doubt we can conclude much about the WRs. Seem to be doing fine to me. Have to look at film to see if they're blocking better, because they weren't doing that well enough last year.
Really? Not seeing that at all.
It's hard to judge WR development when there's no QB.
Completely fair.
Six quarters of football and the number of fans ready to jump out of the window on the team and coaches already is shocking.
Took us about the same amount of time to recognize Moorhead's Impact when he first arrived. Should it go both ways or nah?
You mean the WR Coach that decided not to use the JUGS machine until after the Alabama game where our receivers demonstrated that they couldn't catch a cold. I know that we loved Moorehead, but he didn't exactly coach like a superstar right out of the gate as you are suggesting.
I dont think most of us are jumping ship. Just tempering expectations. We really havent looked good in the last four qtrs.
Thoughts of offense in the first half:
Big play back
Wtf happened with the camera
Yea great job ESPN!!!
Cameraman tripped.
The cameraman and the ref collided.
I kinda hope another camera got it on video. Not Top Ten candidate.
It did, they showed it on ESPN3.
And that one got knocked over, too. Apparently, we have the third string cameramen and production crew.
With the amount of Beer I have had...that was painful...
I'm glad McMillan finally got a good look. I'm excited about this kid.
Definitely need to give him the ball more.
Yeah. A running game!
Loganesque
Trey just does not look mean enough to be a goal line back. Nice play call to Ford
neither did jc a few years ago.
Agree. Don't know what the answer is there
Sam MFing Rodgers.
Not running the running backs up the center everytime. JC has killed it the last 3 years when he isnt ran up the center.
How about a draw play
Now that's the kind of drive I have been hoping to see.
Brendan "tebow" motley
Motley sucks, amirite?
Bench him!!
Nothing like a 1 yard pass to prove your worth
That was a nice drive. Good rhythm.
Daddy likey. But we need to pull Bucky now.
Things i have learned from these announcers:
1. Wheel routes look like FB Dives
2. It is ok to pause 7 seconds before saying a players name
3. Rehearsing and planning a telecast is for suckers
Seriously the best parts of the ESPN 3 telecast has been when the sound has gone out
Next thing you know, they'll be telling us that the team with the most points is gonna win the game.
Also, did he just say "snarters"?
and one knee equals two feet
The ability of Furman to get the edge and cause VT defenders to chase them down is not good. Our D has forced some important stops and turnovers, but there is definite vulnerability. No idea what's going on with them.
They seem to be over committing and not forcing plays to the inside
Better have that straightened out before GT.
Hell, better have that straightened out before ECU.
My biggest worry the whole day. Everything on Bud's D is predicated on the force and spill calls on the edge. Way too often, it looked like the edge guy spilled the play and nobody was there in the alley. To me, I am watching the safety and linebacker play.
Deon Clarke on that counter-trey.... Bud will not be happy.
Well there goes two VT D players, lets see what the depth at DE and LB is.
now we see who our 2nd mike is
Oh good god. Who the hell is playing Mike???
A guy that weighs 200 lbs....
Eh, Chase was what? 210?
Try 235 his sr year.
According to HokieSports.com you should try 215lbs his r-Sr year.
http://www.hokiesports.com/football/players/williams_chase.html
Well, great! We're all wrong!
I'll take 200 lbs in position to make a tackle or slow down a RB over 230 lbs and out of position.
New game: Drink every time they mispronounce Motuapuaka.
basically going to drink anyways..
Truth.
You'd die.
Ha, I was going to say, that's called "The Game of Cirrhosis."
moto is out so maybe too late for this
Double Moves....Ugh...
Ugh. Why have we been so injury plagued here recently?
Stable, so they don't know yet...I really don't want to be that douche who says what we're all secretly thinking about him getting hurt...
Prepare to be downvoted.
I didn't say it.
We who? Speak for yourself.
LOVE McMillan in space
McMillian is my favorite new Irishman.
these refs
Motley with the check down. McMillian is showing me something.
McMillian is doing work! Lovin this guy more and more.
Well, it was a nice concept and a good throw...
Would love to know exactly what happened. The replay just showed the aftermath really.
Nice pass by Motley despite the offensive PI.
Another nice throw to hit Ford in stride.
YOU GUYS! MOTLEY CAN FUCKING PASS!!!
I'M SO EXCITED!!!!

and you just can't hide it....
Great throw by Motley and a massive 3rd down pickup.
where is Shai McKenzie?
I've been wondering where Shai is as well.
On the sideline watching McMillian's coming out party.
Been wondering this since 1st Q.
TOUCHDOWN PHILLIPS!
Let's see if it stands...
Beautiful dive
HOLY SMOKES what a dive by Cam!!!
Motley looks like a completely different QB. I am impressed.
Who were the four WR's they say are out there?
Given the really bad camera angles on most plays and the poor ability of ESPN3 to cut back to the action while showing replays, I can only guess, but the people I saw split out wide aside from Ford and Phillips were: Cline, Hodges, Malleck, Asante, and perhaps one more but I can't be sure. The 4-wide set made a lot of appearances, so it could be several combinations. Doesn't necessarily mean we had 4 WRs out there; the TEs obviously feature prominently in our passing game.
At this point I see Hodges as TE/WR. I was just hoping VT had identified a WR3.
Doubtful. Asante and Knowles each had one catch. Behind Phillips and Ford were the TEs and Travon McMillian in terms of number of catches.
Motley looked very sharp on all his passes during the drive. Maybe it was just a matter of him adjusting to "game speed"
Man if this is the emergence of Montley then I will not only eat my words but also agree with Lee Corso that God is in fact a Hokie. Me likey.
Well hell. We might have something with Motley.
Its furman, lets not get ahead of ourselves here.
Motley gaining any sense of confidence is a positive thing for us. Start small - he's improved his accuracy. That's a better starting point for the next game than where we started today.
Dont disagree with that, but still lots of work to be done.
But I that was the exact reason we didn't want to play Durkin or Lawson because we didn't want someone who had a slow start. We can't take a half to play football with the rest of our schedule
What difference does it make who it is? He's delivering a good catchable ball consistently here in the 2nd half.
Agreed, but some times, hitting a receiver in stride is simply hitting a receiver in stride, regardless of the quality of opposition. His timing and vision looked way better on that drive than in the first half.
Just give the kid some credit! He still threw a TD against the #1 team... just sayin!
Hell of an effort by Cam. Good throw, outstanding effort. NOW STICK IT IN.
Still a heckuva effort by Cam, shame it was overturned.
And let's give it up to Loeffler. He has made some great play calls. Receivers are getting wide open.
Yep. It's been weird at times, but Lefty clearly knows what he's doing. And in a very tough situation.
Yea it's tough in game, but its now week 2 and time has passed for planning. Plenty of teams are playing week 2 on back on a qb
Also ND is now playing there 2nd team qb due to injury to the qb at the end of the 3rd quarter
Tremaine Edmunds in as a blocker on the TD run just now. He playing some TE as well?
ND back up. All is right again
Thanks to a Fuller.
Possibly lefty was just trying to warm up the offense and get some practice in. now he is calling plays for real?
No, the playcalling was solid in the first half. Now it's clicking.
Facyson went down hard.
Criminy. Clark hits like a mack truck.
Oh man, Clark blew up that play so hard it took Facyson with him. Glad he's jogging off, though. Looked rough.
Any time Facyson foes down, I cringe. That kid's been through enough already.
Damn. Facyson hurt by friendly fire.
ADONIS DOING ADONIS THINGS. YESSSSS
intercepted!
Adonis tried to get the INT on the last screen pass. He got it this time. Good hustle. That kid is a baller!
First pick of the 2015 class?
Adonis picked off the ball in the OSU game
That was Frye.
Okay so my technology betrayed me until about 10 mins ago...I know score wise we're okay but can anyone tell me how good we "look"??? Thanks to anyone who answers.
Not great at first but looking real good in the 3rd Q
Motley with another great pass!
Some zip on that ball! Much better.
Ford will be a top 3 WR of all time. Love him
jeeze motley looks comfortable now
Dang, Motley lookin sharp.
Isiah Ford is a beast!!!
Motley's arrived, y'all.
Ok, i'm impressed now! Hell of a throw and catch.
OMG THAT PASS!!!! MOTELY IS WAKING UP GUYS
QB1. Settled. Now let's see some Lawson.
Time for Ford to sit I think.
And Clark. Hes been flying around today.
Mm...sexy sexy offense
Now this is VT football. Adonis with an awesome pick, and a freaking laser from Motley to Ford on the next play for the TD. Let's go, Hokies!
NOW PLEASE GET ALL THE STARTERS OFF THE FIELD!! On both sides of the ball. Get the 2's some experience, and let's not have any more injuries!
This Motley guy aint too bad. It is Furman but he is hitting his marks now.
And notre dame is rolling and pulling ahead in the smug bowl. All is well!
anyone see what happened to zaire?
ankle injury, broken is the word
Malik Zaire went down with an ankle injury, after his leg got folded under a Virginia defender. He had to be helped from the field. Per the broadcast, he is being taken off the field on a cart for x-rays.
As a skeptic I'll give credit where credit is due - Motley had a helluva 3rd quarter. Looking much more in control and making plays.
who's playing Mike?
56 - huselcamp.
...and he looked comfortable with his helmet in the QB's breadbasket.
love me some delayed blitz.
Michael?
Sean
What a hit by Mook. Wow.
MOOOOOoooook!
These refs look so unsure of themselves.
they feel the hate we have been sending them
Ok. I'd like to see another QB now.
Too many penalties! You rack discirprine!
Who the f is mosely?
McMillan sweeps all day
Get the fing starters out! Need an accurate FG kicker!
This third qtr has been a very impressive one for the offense after a mediocre first half.
Motley is a lot more sure of him self in this 3rd quarter...has there been any Shai McKenzie sightings yet? Just started watching during this quarter
well that went well
So this is what it's supposed to feel like as a fan of a P5 school playing a FCS school.
Might not be as exciting as you may expect but following the game through all your comments is making me want to drink so bad and I'm halfway through my shift at work. Thanks for the entertainment!
Rugby rules football!
LAWSON!
Dwayne Lawson's first pass goes for 30 yards. WOOO HOOO!
Lawson time!! Finally!!
It's official I'm TeamLawson
Dwayne! Kalvin!
LAWSONDOZER
That block by Gallo was waaaaaay before the whistle. I thought you played until the whistle?
DAYUM SON!! Flashbacks to Logan carrying half a defense into the endzone.
Thought that was going to be unnecessary roughness on Lawson for trucking the whole Furman defense.
I think we just got a flag for Unnecessary Lawson.
Lmao! This is quality.
Too.many.flags.
That Gallo penalty stalled the drive. Sad face :(
Shai spotting
Aaaaand our kickers stink today
What is up with that?
Granted they were long range...but through 2 games we've missed 3 FG's.
Lawson throwing a bit low, but otherwise pretty on-target. Good, strong arm. ALL ABOARD THE HYPE TRAIN.
...and then a missed FG. Ugh.
We need to work on field goals. Is that 3 missed so far this year?
man coach him up...that boy is a grown man. He'll be game ready with a few more reps. #TeamMFnLawson
The future is bright. I hope Ford and Phillips stay for 2016.
They have to. Next year is year 3 for both.
Have to. True sophomores.
*Bucky stays for 2016
Some mechanics to clean up, but Lawson looks the part.
Yeah, I'm glad that he is getting some reps. I'm glad that motley started to click enough to get a big enough lead to bring in the backups.
Ok defense, play a full game
Really wanna see Dwayne throw his first TD.
The Lawson experience has already made this game totally worth it. We have our own Cardale now.
Name of the year....BLAZEJOBKOWSKI! yEAH..lAWSON WILL BE THE MAN!
I like your style!
How exciting is this? Game is over with 11 minutes on the clock, and our backups on O & D getting quality reps and showing some promise?
I know... its against Furman... but it still feels like improvement.
I'll drink to that
Lawson has so much lateral agility that logan never had
Durkin runs so angry
514 total yards and counting.
Sooo all of our QBs are part 'dozer? I'm down with that.
Demetri Knowles everybody!
Feels like Knowles is a 10th year Senior.
Mmnnn...that pass was hella sexy. I think I'm entering the groupie zone on this Lawson show.
I know that was a hold, but I love how Shai runs.
Oh hai Shai.
Why is Riley playing QB?
Durkin is going to give himself an injury if he keeps running like that.
Or kill someone.
DURKIN-DOSER
Nevermind...tripped up by these horrid ESPN3 announcers. Ugh.
Durkin runs with the mindset of hurting anyone that touches him.
Mike Alstott style!
Very nice read by Lawson on that play.
TD LAWSON!!!!!
Touchdown Lawson!
Lawson is an athlete. He may be inexperienced; however, his ability to make athletic plays has to be an advantage for us.
Final stats on Motley:
16 of 24, 233 yards, 9.7 YPA, 2 TD, 0 INT
4 rushes, 38 yards, 9.5 YPC, 1 rushing TD
This game was excellent for Motley in the way that stats don't show: He just got better and better as the game went on.
Definitely feeling better about our QB situation.
Agreed, BUT... he still finished with great stats anyway.
Oh yeah, I don't disagree... those are excellent stats IMO. Just more impressive I think given how he started the game.
Dont forget that rushing TD!
Crap! Thank you!
Ugh I can't wait to watch this tonight! Can my shift finally end!!!
Skip the first half.
Actually, I think he should watch our first defensive series.
this is how a mismatched game should look
How did Malleck do today?
From everything I saw, Malleck looked like a pro out there in every way. I think he's going to be drafted.
Solid in the first half with a couple check down type throws. Then we got more explosive in the second half and didnt need him. Reliable as always
Only good part of this telecast has been all the SportsCenter commercials. They have a great advertising team
Except I now have them all memorized, after 10 reps each...
"will this be on the test?"
'cept that wasn't a ESPN commercial...
What was I thinking? Must be the flying pencil I took to the head. [laughter]
(okay, so there were a few ESPN commercials that also played several times.)
570 Total Yards. Would love to see us break 600.
Last time we did that was Marshall I think. I think we get that.
Wait, there's still 5 minutes left? We may actually beat that ungodly point spread.
The spread that I saw was VT -33, so we're good as long as this holds.
I thought the spread was 33?
math fail?
The "injuries" are raking up. I'm sure a lot of it is precautionary but I hope for the best.
So what's the plan here...are we going to develop Lawson to play this year or to back up? If he's not going to play, why burn the shirt? Or do they (coaches) already know he's out by 4 years max?
Looks like develop him as backup this year, get him game reps when and where possible, expect him to start next year.
If Motley sustains this level of play I'd look for him to start next year.
Agreed. Again, I'll wait to hear the experts, but it looked like he was making all the right reads -- just wasn't throwing on time.
If he can continue how he looked in the 2nd half today, it's going to be hard to argue he shouldn't start next year.
Edited to add: Am I mathing right? Was Motley really 9 of 10 passing in the 2nd half for 120 yards?
This is what I'm saying.
Assuming Lawson gets a good grasp on the offense, his upside carries him over Motley...of course, if he lazes about or has issues picking the O up well...Motley
They are surprisingly similar players. I'd be happy with either, but the extra time in Lefty's system would be a big asset to Motley.
This is kinda why I didn't understand them not just bringing Lawson in right away after Brewer went down. I saw it as if Motley turns out to be any good then you couldn't justify replacing him with Lawson next year. Then if Motley busts, well then you should have just played Lawson to begin with. So long story short, if you're sold on Lawson as your future, playing Motley is kind of a lose lose situation. I'm open to other perspectives on this.
Judging from Lefty's post-game comments, Motley is a more polished passer right now. Lawson may have the higher ceiling, but Lefty wants more time to work with him before he becomes the starter. Motley is ready to fill in for the games Brewer misses. Brewer comes back and is QB1 for the rest of the season. Next year, it's Lawson's team.
Motley vs Lawson will be one hell of a spring camp battle, with Motley having starter experience and Lawson (hopefully) seeing significant game snaps this year.
He's the clear number two. Will see lots of playing time this year. But if Motley repeats this performance he's the clear starter.
Burnt redshirt.
Ugghhhh, hoos are gonna win.
Upside: Signature win for London wins him another year as coach.
Hoo cares who wins? Besides, they'll give the LEO an extension if they win...that's fine with me...
Tell me about it....
unranked ACC teams beating top 10 Big10 teams is so lame
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
I'm just have a feeling ND will break a big play... my hate for ND and UVA are kinda equal... still waiting for that random asteroid to fall from the sky...
Called it! Those pics of UVA fans hearts crushed just put a tear in my eye!
"Not so fast" - Lee Corso
It would be classic loluva to lose on a field goal. This way, the fans think the team is turning around and will wait a while longer before firing Timecop. Thats a win-win off one loss
Timecop burns a timeout on the 2 pt conversion
Why on earth would you practice that?
Good win. Glad we could see Motley improve.
And damn UVA
Imagine if we had come out firing on all cylinders in the first half.
UVa isn't allowed to have anything nice!
I guess this means Texas REALLY sucks....
Who?VA
Suck it, Hoos.
LOLUVA
Can someone please get a screen shot of that uva fan bent over the wall? thats the next anti-uva meme right there
Beat me to it.
He's getting his backside spanked.
50 shades of UVA.
UVA snatching defeat from the jaws of victory again...
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Another Fuller beats UVA
UVA can never beat a Fuller
Maybe they'll bring back Groh, aren't they still paying him anyway?
I wonder if the Sabre has imploded yet
Concerning today, we started out slow (not unexpected), but I really am impressed with the coaching job on offense. Great effort by all, and I look forward to good things to come from this team.
I hope we didn't lose any guys to injury, though. GO HOKIES!
Sobczak looks so big. Adonis got an int. Saw all three QBs. Beamerball TD. McMillian is awesome. Hard to be disappointed in this game.
I like how we ran the jet sweep zone read 80% of the plays in the 4th quarter and moved it down the field.
Not that we didn't already know it, but we've got a real team-player here.
Of course he did. Love that kid...he's just got a good heart.
Brewer's got future coach....or senator......written all over him.
Loluva. Beat by a fuller...again.
VT looked pretty strong. McMillan looks legit and ford got his. We cant start this slow against everyone but lots of positives.
You're welcome
Bonus
This picture warms my heart.
Sad Virginia fan is sad. Lmao
Didn't get everything I wanted.
I wanted the W. Got it
I wanted 300 yd rushing, 299 is close enough.
I wanted 200 yd passing, got it with spare.
I wanted 2 - 100 yard rushers. Nope, not even 1.
I wanted a 100 yd receiver, denied again.
WE played 13 running backs!
Well, McMillian had 98 yards. Pretty close.
: )
This kids position could be photo shopped in far worse pictures, I just hope anyone gets funny ideas please warn us!
That's definitely worth a leg!
Just put a treadmill under that bad boy and it's perfection.
This is clearly a fake. If it were real they would both be falling off the horse.
And there are way too many fans in the stands.
I'm pleased they got the W (I feel the making Furman bitchage was accomplished). Wish they would've put 50+ but pleased nonetheless. Was even more ecstatic to discover that C'ville Community College gagged to ND. However, there was something that greatly displeased me. ND won. Is there anyway that C'ville Community College and ND could possibly both lose while playing each other at the same time? Because that would just be awesome.
If Bane showed up, both teams would be defeated; albeit with excessive force

I was routing for the meteor for the ND-UVA game.
Yes, that is what I was hoping for. That a giant blackhole would rip through the time space continuum and suck up C'ville Community College and ND at the same time forever. Literally.
Am I the only one thinking Durjin to MLB? QBs are heady players, so he could pick it up fast, obvious run plays-shoot the gap and smack that a**...
Then who becomes 3rd/scout QB? If anythingfrom last year proves depth at QB/RB are VERY important.
It won't make my film review because there is so much else to cover, however I really would have liked to have seen Chris Durkin run the football off play action. As much as people are splooging over Lawson, he was incredibly tentative running the ball. To his credit, he made the correct reads in the drop back passing game, but was woefully inaccurate (3 low passes in a row on the triangle concept pass pro's in the 4th Q that killed a drive.)
Meanwhile, Durkin was assertive with his fakes. Someone on twitter posted that Durkin was going to keep every play. I don't know that for sure, because on the read plays, every time he kept the keeper was the correct read. He was assertive and got up field quickly, used his blocking effectively, and finished his runs. If Loeffler truly believes in competition, he should have let Durkin have some pass plays mixed in. Given how shaky Lawson was (and sorry folks, but he looked very freshman to me), having a viable option in Durkin is important. Especially given Motley's injury history.
Agreed
Lawson showed that he is not ready to be the guy. I do wish Beamer had let Durkin throw the ball as well. I hope he does on Saturday against Purdue.
You mean after we're comfortably ahead, that is??
I think any hopes for Saturday can safely assume the preface of "once we're comfortably ahead." :)
