Patterson hasn't even been at Texas two years, but he's jacked up ticket prices and ruffled feathers with almost every move he's made, and now, he's going to be fired. He has a guaranteed contract that will pay him through 2019, so Texas will owe him a lot of money.

Patterson had a guaranteed contract that runs through August 2019. When Patterson was hired in November 2013, the UT System Board of Regents approved a five-year, guaranteed contract worth $1.4 million annually. His deal included an annual 2.5-percent cost of living pay increase. The contract has no buyout clause, which means UT is on the hook for the remaining balance.
I want that kind of job.

You have to think he is at least on the list of people they would at least look at their resume.
Ehh... I'm not sure Whit would be interested. I mean, yes, they have a monumental revenue stream, but his family is from the Roanoke Valley area, and he often talks about how he would go to VT games as a kid. Just with my own interactions with him, I think he sees potential with this school to make it what those other big boys are, and he's going to make sure it happens.
Some people are program builders. Whit is one of those people.
I wish someone would pay me a 7 figure salary to not work. I would sit on the beach and ride jetskis at least 90% of the time.
At least 5.6 million if they don't negotiate it down.
Now picture Charley Weiss doing exactly that..You're welcome
+1. How many is he being paid by now? Just two - ND and Kansas? Or am I missing another team? He should have plenty of time to slim down.
I would drink and golf a shitload.
If you're an athletic director, president, CEO, etc, with a 7 figure buy out, chances are you are a type-A personality, who enjoys the thrill of working and accomplishments, more so than you enjoy sitting on beaches and riding jetskis.
chasing t&a as well then? ;)
Likely true
Whelp, looks like Michael Brewer better get his resume ready. He's got everything to be the Texas AD. /s
Honestly, you probably don't need the sarcastica font here. Brewer couldn't really do worse than this guy, and would be a lot cheaper to hire.
A job where you can fluck up big time and then get paid millions not to work? WHERE CAN I SIGN UP?
You rang?
Usajobs.gov
Ho hum. Am I going to have to monitor flight tracker again?
You'd have to think they were convinced he was their guy before agreeing to such a sweet deal. You know, like UVA did with London.
I'd love to know how his interview went - I wonder how much being a UT grad influenced the selection committee.
Darn.... the mismanagement of the Texas athletic department was pretty much a guaranteed source of comical entertainment.
The irony being that the other finalist for the job was Oliver Luck, who despite working for WVU, actually was a major success there, was one of the cornerstones of the initial playoff committee, and now was hired by the NCAA to be the new "Sanctions Czar" and get them back out of the dumpster fire the Miami, PSU, and USC cases left them in.
Not to mention they hired the guy just fired over Luck who wanted the Texas job. Luck can play the scorned lover card and stick it to their wallet if they really want him.
