Furman helmets to make the trip to Purdue?

Looks like the team has been practicing this week in the Furman lids, which is generally a sign they'll be worn that weekend.

Which, is interesting, as these were supposed to be a 1 time deal.

Also, recently heard that the school will not be producing mini or replica helmets from the Ohio St game. The plan was that they would should we have won the game, but the process to get that done with chrome lids is so expensive they didn't deem it worth it to produce them from a losing effort. Seeing as how there's still a surplus left from both the Boise St game and the white Pro Combats the year before, I can't say I blame them. Price point would have been $80 for a mini helmet.

The helmets are nice, but who wants a reminder of a game you lost AND lost your best QB in?

Well... the decision that they would make them in only a win was made before the season.

That said, they were really nice, and I wouldn't mind seeing them worn again, especially during the day.

I'd like to see them used in a WIN.

So, we should wear them against UVA?

But imagine the negative connotation those helmets will forever have if we wore them and lost to UVA.

I would personally pay to watch every single helmet destroyed and the words "orange" and "chrome" would never be allowed to be mentioned together again.

we could let Teller loose on them with the OL hammer

I felt that way about those helmets before anOSU game

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Its not even chrome.

Really, get some sort of mountain witch (we are close to WVA), a backhoe, bulldozer and a gas tanker. Dig a deep hole (backhoe), throw all the helmets in the hole (SR), empty all the gas into the hole (tanker), light them up (Bud) while the witch chants a spell to ward off all future helmet incarnations.

It wouldn't surprise me if the military appreciation helmets made the trip. They didn't auction them off like they traditionally do with one time only helmets. I also wouldn't be surprised if we see the metallic orange helmets again for another big night game, possible NC State or Georgia Tech.

Is there an ongoing auction for either?

I'm still thinking that both lids are going to be a part of our normal rotation down the line.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

No there is not. I think you are right about them possibly being added to the rotation.

They will wear the military appreciation helmets a couple more times this year per my #SOURCES. I can't remember if they plan to auction them off but I think they will. Look to see them 2-3 more times.

honestly didn't like the white helmets too much.. just seemed way too much especially with the stripes on the jerseys and pants..

I thought they fit very well with the stripes. That being said, I am not a fan of the stripes in general and wish we got rid of them but I think the helmets went with them pretty well.

The white on top with that weird angle made it look like we were wearing bike helmets

I agree. At first i liked them on all the off season pictures, but worn live it did not fit for me. The stripes on the shoulders come off as "traditional" as the stripe on the helmet was more "modern" (for lack of a better word).

@VTimHokie85

I would buy one of the metallic orange ones. I think they're really neat looking. I've got a matte black boise one. I don't mind that it came from a loss. It was still an exciting game and the I care more about how awesome it looks. I'm going to remember the losing games regardless.

He's no good to me dead.

Feel the same way about the one i bought from last year's mil appreciation game. Sure, we lost to ECU, and the previous owner (Facyson) kinda played like butt, but it still looks awesome sitting on my shelf during the week and on my head on gameday.

on my head on gameday.

Please tell me this is true.

I pictured the mini helmet, not gonna lie.

"Exit light..."

That one goes somewhere else.

(snicker.)

I agree. I've never bought any before but would definitely buy the metallic orange ones. Those helmets were amazing.

I hope we can bring the Furman lids into the regular helmet rotation. After seeing them in person on Saturday, I really, really like them. Probably one of the best helmet designs we've had in a while. The white top, orange stripe, and maroon bottom really match well with the white jerseys and maroon/orange stripes. I'm a little tired of the shoulder stripes myself, but this helmet really makes the look better overall. Hope we see those metallic orange lids again too.

I like both the metallic orange helmet and the one worn against Furman, and would like to see both again. As for the shoulder stripes, I like them on the away uniforms, it provides some color, but I'm over them on the home uniforms, would rather go back to a more solid maroon, like what X. Adibi wore, or what MV7 wore.

That being said, the stripes did accent the metallic helmet well against anOSU.

There is nothing in the world like Thursday night in Blacksburg!

So, I'm pretty sure we're going with white jerseys for away....any change of putting maroon pants with those, or are we going white out two (or three) weeks in a row?

With this curveball of wearing the lids again, and the mixing up of the unis, I'm going to say orange pants. Just because.
(I'm betting on an Oregon-esque melange of combos this season. To get ready for the new unveiling next year. And to possibly weigh the fan reactions to the different combos used this year.)

Are new uniforms a for sure thing next season?

I have no idea why my username is VT_Warthog.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

I'm pretty sure I remember reading that in an interview with Whit

I'd kill for an all maroon jersey with white numbers on the front and back and the orange ones on the shoulder. Simple, clean, classic VT

The Beamerball Instagram used the Furman lids in their game preview. The first two game preview helmets were the ones we actually wore, so I'm expecting white helmets against PU.

Am I the only one that thinks that the Military Appreciation Helmets kinda' look like like male pattern baldness? Especially when viewed from specific angles?

So what's been on your mind lately?

Haha - I actually have too much hair. I'm the one that clogs the tub in the house.

I was looking for a fabulous Fabio hair gif but this works sooo much better...

The helmet display in the locker room for this week had the Furman helmet and Purdue helmet.

Furman is playing Purdue too?

So for a second I thought we were wearing Furman's helmets...as if we take the helmets from whichever team we beat to play against our next victim. Almost like a trophy...

Onward and upward

My first thought was that Purdue was wearing Furman's helmets.

I like that idea!
Then we could have gotten rid of some of the shitty helmets we've had over the past few years for good.

Could be worse, at least our helmets haven't looked like they were left out in the sun too long and were sun faded,

Helmet painting company employee 1: What are we going to do with all this chrome paint left over from the Hokies lids?
Helmet painting company employee 2: How much is left? Can we do another full team?
HPCE1: No, maybe 20 more helmets. Not enough to do a full run on a teams lids.
HPCE2: Watch this!

HPCE2: Hello Mr. AD. I have a proposition for you. We have some paint left over from the Commonwealth Cup winners new helmets and was wondering if...
AD: Sure. Bright shiny new things! We can emulate them.
HPCE2: Just so you are aware sir, there is enough...
AD: I already said yes. Now I'm busy photoshopping pics for our football page. Just send me the bill.
AD (muttering to himself): Nice, we'll look like VT, so people will watch. We'll have a record number of fans.

HPCE2 (hanging up phone): Sold!!!! Just dip the bottom part, and make sure you stretch it to do all of them. Only a partial painting, not fully dipped. You understand?! UVA is NOT fully dipped!

It actually looks like a loading logo for a video game. The orange is the downloaded process and as soon as it gets to the "V" it will turn to a successful team "VT"

Woulda been better if the V was orange and the swords were orange and shifted to chrome where the helmet is orange

Woulda been better if they were worn by a football team.

They would have been better without scissors and with a T.

I never really understood why we gave up on these...

I would root for the Russians before I would root for Virginia.

Lord I hope so...those were by far the best helmets we have worn. Hopefully, it becomes our permanent road helmet as it goes very nice with the white jerseys.

IMO, these are the only designs we need.

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

no, yes, no, yes. in that order.

The fighting gobbler and state of virginia are good ideas, but FG makes our guys look like they were headshotted in paintball when you're more than 10 feet away and the same goes for the state/TECH combo.

The Beamer Ball Instagram posted this a few days ago but I didn't think much of it due to the home jerseys. Who knows.

I'm starting to get a vibe that these could be a full time helmet this year.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

I would be perfectly happy with that. I liked those helms. Didn't they also outfit the helms with concussions sensors? I don't think they want to be moving those sensors every week.

Yeah, there are stock photos of every player that they assemble into these images each week. Gear is irrelevant on a week-to-week basis with these.

"Exit light..."

I never really thought these were going to be a one time deal.

Every second counts

While they may not be one time, I hope we still use the Maroon helmet as the primary and the majority of the time.

"I'm too drunk to taste this chicken" - Colonel Sanders via Ricky Bobby

I wouldn't necessarily mind them being the primary away game helmet and classic maroon lids for home games.

" Seeing as how there's still a surplus left from both the Boise St game and the white Pro Combats the year before, I can't say I blame them. Price point would have been $80 for a mini helmet."

Where would I go to buy one of these helmets, or at least to find out the price and then not buy one because I'm not made of money?

Wiley, Brown, Russell, Drakeford, Gray, Banks, Prioleau, Charleton, Midget, Bird, McCadam, Pile, Hall, Green, Fuller, Williams, Hamilton, Rouse, Flowers, Harris, Chancellor, Carmichael, Hosley, Fuller, Exum, Jarrett

The motorcycle helmet with the half-sized VT that is barely discernible on TV?

I thought Whit was much smarter than that...

I think contrast and visibility probably play into the decision somewhat. For instance, you don't want to wear a white helmet if the other team is wearing a white helmet, you want your QB to be able to pick up the color instantly. Contrast is a good thing. Purdue is likely wearing gold this week, since they wore a white one last week. I think they may have a black one this year too, so that might be in play, and would be a good reason to wear our white one.

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

Now they're dropping images with the standard maroon lid.

If I had to guess, I'd go with what they're practicing in though.

Wouldn't read too much into it. The Ford pic is from last year and the standard helmet was just inserted into the header at the top.

I think that's more to fit the design of the "5 Things" image. We're not going to wear all-maroon on the road.

We are wearing the same helmets/jerseys as the Furman game, just with different (maroon/orange) socks compared to black last week.

You can take it to the bank, I have direct #Sauces.
