Frank Beamer did a little bit of celebrating in the locker room after the Hokies hung just over half-a-hundred on Purdue Saturday afternoon. Tech's director of high school relations for football, Thomas Guerry shared the behind the scenes look.
Coach Beamer almost broke out the dance moves! #HOKIES pic.twitter.com/KJumkaaHkf— Thomas Guerry (@thomasguerry) September 20, 2015
I have to disagree with Guerry though, I think that's enough wiggle and swag to qualify as dancing. And as many of you know, I am bound by company policy to GIF any and all instances of Frank dancing.

Frank has something to cheer about. Our offense is currently 44th in Total Yards and 30th in scoring. Both are higher than our defensive rankings.
And Motley is top 25 in QBR (yeah, it's against Furman and Purdue, but when's the last time that any VT qb was a qualifier for the list and top 25?
Who would've thunk it? I guess Loeffler has done a good job of preparing our backup QB to come in and play, after all. Props to Lefty, and to Motley.
Most teams have played weaker competition thus far, so the rating is not really skewed.
I don't know. Furman and Purdue, so it's a LITTLE skewed...
We'll take them anyway. The offense has clearly improved since last year's Wake Forest debacle.
Though certain Defensive Rankings are starting to get up there.
#9 3rd Down Defense, #19 in Passing Yards allowed, #7 in Team Defensive Passing Efficiency, tied for 4th and one of only 12 schools with multiple defensive TD's, tied for 13th in INT's, and we are tied for 4th in the Nation in turnover margin at +6.
That turnover margin is sexy. You can win a lot of games averaging +2
^This cannot be overstated.^ We were beating the #1 team in the country when we were winning the turnover battle.
It's somewhat embarrassing that we have to work that hard at picking out particular defensive stats where we look good. I hate to admit it, but neither the starting front four nor our vaunted CBs have been world beaters. I still wonder if Fuller doesn't have a lingering hamstring problem.
Glad to see that Adonis Alexander and Woody Baron got starts against Purdue. That may light a fire under some of the other guys.
The stats he posted are commonly used stats, especially TO margin - that's the most telling stat in football
Point taken. I agree with you on TO margin, that's a biggie.
I mean, its not really cherry picking. We are really showing strength at defending the pass, and struggling to defend the run.
Those are then the stats we excel in/ struggle in.
You're right. Maybe it's my reverting to the old days when we were all about stopping the run. My favorite Hokie T-shirt back in the day, with a message for all our opponents:
"You can run your mouth, but can you run the ball?"
Der'woun Greene couldn't look any more excited
Sam Rogers too.
I know sam is good at everything he does but in my head I have to believe that sam actually dances a lot like this and thus is why he is so excited lol
Der'woun Greene looks like he just found out he got an N64 for Christmas.
How old is he? Would he even know what an N64 is?
Yes the N64 isn't that old. The NES would be too old for him to remember.
According to Google, Greene turned had just turned 2 years old (born June 1994) when the N64 was released (June 1996). I hope everyone is this thread feels old now.
Thanks for looking that up
Goldeneye on the N64.
That is all.
Mario Kart was the bees knees. Except for Wario, what a d1ck, always drunk driving spinning me out and laughing in my face. I broke a couple of controllers because of that a$$hat.
Mario Party was no slouch of a game either.
Now its all about that Beerio Kart..
First off,
FTFY
Second, what did Goldeneye have that Perfect Dark didn't? I loved me some Goldeneye, but PD went all Hansel on it and imitated AND improved.
Goldeneye had the Bond tie-in. And it introduced me to Proximity mines!
As someone who grew up on Wolfenstein and Doom/Quake, I've always felt that Goldeneye was that kind of game for consoles. The first one that people really enjoyed, so it's automatically the one they think back to.
Farsight ultimate cheese weapon

I guess it depends on when he got into video games. He was 2ish when the N64 came out and 7ish when the game cube came out. (estimating his age based on being a r-Jr)
Uh, are these things of which you speak anything like Pong or Nintendo?
Frogger.
I hope he gets some PF Flyers too. Needs a bit more giddy up to
make some house callstake it to the shade on kickoffs.Edit: Loeffler-ized
donovan riley and Bucky classic looks Mihota too awesome pure gold
And McLaughlin doin his little move with the meat tenderizer.
I hope Frank and His Team gets to Dance A lot this year. Really mean that.
Always love to see CFB dancing! I hate it when people say Beamer's age prevents him from connecting with todays youth.
Can we please beat somebody first?
After the past three years, I refuse to take wins for granted anymore. I'm just as excited to beat Purdue as I used to be to beat Miami.
I'm pretty ecstatic with how the team looked yesterday.
Considering how Miami seemed to take their win against Nebraska for granted yesterday, I agree with you.
True

So many Hokies I talked with yesterday, marginalized the win by essentially saying Purdue should be a "mid-major team." Fact is, they're in the B1G (and have had their share of notable players (such as Brees)), and perhaps I gave them too much credit going into this game... but I was quite concerned with their decent Front-7 and large, corn-fed O-Line. VT out-bullied them on all fronts, and I for one was ecstatic.
Agreed. Motley can make all the throws, just need to speed him up a tick. We are running the ball great by scheme, and our RB takent can still be upgraded (bless your heart, Trey). And the defense was nasty yesterday. Alexander looks like a future star. STs look good. We will beat ECU by 20+.
IDK, this Purdue team seems to be at least as good as last years Wake Forest team, so why not be excited about putting up 51 more points in regulation than we did vs WF?
And the D held a team that was averaging ~500 yd/gm to 276.
this was a great TEAM win! maybe against a lesser opponent but its still good to see and its been a long time since we have seen it. im fine with frank and the team enjoying it and being excited about it. football is a game. if your having fun doing it, it becomes a lot easier to do.
Try to find more faith in the fact that we beat an opponent soundly, on the road (a long on-the-road at that), and with a couple of key injuries with minor, nagging injuries sprinkled in. The team can come back from this knowing that they put in great effort on both sides of the ball and focus on the little things they need to perfect for this Saturday at ECU, like mental errors and penalties.
Thomas Guerry has done a great job. The snapchats from vtfootball are worth signing up for.
Doing it today! I have been on the fence but I hate missing out on stuff. Thanks for the words of encouragement. Now... what is SnapChat?
Look Closely...McLaughlin has the Tenderizer! Will be interesting to see if French's review reflects that Jon had a strong performance.
Given Brewer's injury and the disappointing loss to anOSU, I'm not sure I could feel much better about this team right now.
I believe the Tenderizer reflects practice performance
Beamer just teas'n it!!!! Bet he's got some fresh moves for when we whoop somebody good.
Our next two opponents are HUGELY due for whoopin's from VT...just sayin'
I think you were using the wrong base for your math. It's the next 10 opponents in decimal (not binary).
There are 10 types of people in this world...those who understand binary, and those who don't
Aye! A thousand times aye! (any IT Crowd fans out there?). However, Beamer can't hold out for 10 more games to unveil his queued up dance moves. Gotta give the boys a near-future reward for their hard work, and we have two more opponents that have left bitter tastes in the mouth of Hokie Nation before we get to a (somewhat) fresh opponent.
There is so much to love about this video.
I hope Beamer is prepared if we beat GT to hit the Quan.
I will go to sleep happy after that Snapchat is revealed.
There's a lot of love in that locker room.
lol im pretty sure we will be watching him whip whip and then nay nay at some point. that's the new thing now right?
Looks like the whole VT crew was in a dancing mood this weekend:
I am officially starting the petition to have Beamer join in with this if we win the ACC, or heck, if we win the Coastal.
My takeaway from this was, "why is the VT equipment guys renting a truck?" VT doesn't have dedicated VT buses or trucks?
I don't know why it would be important, honestly. To haul stuff to away games and bowls? Why would we spend the money to customize, maintain, and store vans to be used a grand total of 6-7 times a year? Looks nice, but I think the money is better spent on more important things, and until we're flush with money from some wealthy donor(s) with nothing better to do, I expect it will stay the same.
It could be used by any VT sports team not just football same with the buses. I mean if JMU can have JMU buses to transport the golf team why doesn't VT?
Who knows? Maybe someone at JMU made a specific donation for a specific purpose. In my mind, this is just a luxury item. We have the ability to rent what we need at a fair price. I have to imagine that it's come up at some point, and the answer is "we have better things to spend our money on." For me, I'd rather Whit & Co. be spending money on facilities, branding, and interior/exterior design (you know, the things that draw in fans, donors, coaches, support staff, and recruits) rather than having a bus with a VT plastered on it that is probably no more or less comfortable or functional than what can be rented.
To be fair, I think that custom buses/equipment trucks fall under branding.
Then I'll refine: on-campus branding that standardizes the look and color scheme of our official logo(s) to unify the look of our facilities. This reinforces the VT brand in a meaningful way to the groups I mentioned above.
Slapping a graphic on a bus is a poor investment, I think.
To be fair, I believe the buses the team rides to home games from Roanoke are Maroon with Orange letting of the rental company. Could have changed as I haven't seen the team drive in in years.
Let me paint the picture about why I bring this up. I'm at the Coastal Carolina softball fields for the beginning of the season tournament. Several other schools are there from both P5 and non P5 conferences, the ONLY team without a branded bus was VT softball. How is having a traveling billboard not a good relatively cheap investment?
Personally, I have no basis for knowing what constitutes a "cheap investment." Do the schools rent them and pay a premium to put removable graphics on, or do they own the buses outright? What are the financial situations of each of those schools? To me, if this is a possibility for VT, Whit's thought of it. If we're not doing it, there's a reason. Probably the biggest reason is our relatively small Hokie Club. With lots more money, we can do tons of stuff, I'm sure, but at present I still rank this as a low priority, well after on-campus improvements. Recruits ooh and ahh over practice facilities, locker rooms, and other amenities. Never once have I heard a kid say, "you know what, they have a sweet looking bus."
I'm looking at this beyond football. Football travels by plane to a decent number of games. I'm thinking of the total investment into VT sports as a whole. VT just started a woman's golf team, had there first match this weekend. That investment into "Olympic" sports is what helps the school in many areas including getting more fans invested into the Athletic dept.
This discussion sure has moved around a bit :) I think the equipment truck "branding" is a waste unless we're flush with cash. I could see an argument for buses, but I still think it is low priority. If our buses have school colors as lettering as stated above, that's fine by me since our color combination is unique. I also am not thinking about this solely in terms of football. How many teams are large enough to justify the purchase of one or more VT-branded charter buses? The football team alone would probably mean we'd need 2-3 when they need to use them, so that's the baseline number. The teams off the top of my head that might justify use of a bus are track, baseball, and softball. The women's golf team has six members, so that's probably a really bad example to use in this debate.
Also, does anyone know how often the team flies vs. takes a bus? I thought flying was actually rather uncommon, but I've been wrong before.
Different sizes of buses from the small "church" style to the large tour bus size.

I've got to believe that someone is doing some math on this, and they're doing what they think is most efficient.
I also think they know what they're doing. VT is one of the few athletic departments that operate in the black.
They're donated, usually from alumni companies is what I've gathered from talking to some friends.
I know, why doesn't Lane give us a truck to take our stuff around in. Not like Lane hasn't delivered a lot of large furniture before, they gots to have the trucks.
What happened to this?

That is awesome.
My guess is that's the same truck as in the video. You'll notice one of the sponsors on the truck is Penske, more than likely they donated one of their yellow trucks and had it painted/wrapped. That's why you still see the yellow on the interior.
There is a video of VT equipment loading the truck for Purdue and its yellow Penske rental.
That truck is no longer used for equipment hauling. It follows Beamer around and allows for him to practice his dance moves in private. Hence why the team has to rent other trucks for the equipment.
Rent or lease = Op=x. Buy = Cap=ex. Call your tax guy.
I would imagine someone has done the math, and it's cheaper to rent... Keeping the program in the black was one of Weavers strong suits
Leasing/renting also ensures that the vehicle is the latest technology. If you buy, not only does the vehicle depreciate in value, but the technology maintains at the age of the time of purchase.
You really just never know when the next big breakthrough in bus technology will be
Those other schools are gunna feel pretty stupid when the VT hover bus flies over their puny ground-rolly buses.
I know you're joking, but there actually were quite a few big technology upgrades on buses in the past few years. Satellite-WiFi connections are the best example.
The reason I would bust out dancing - for the first time in a looooooong time, the offense didn't start from scratch. They built on the bowl game success and the spring practices. They definitely had help from the D and STs but they accounted for a lot of yards and points regardless. Would this team have done this to Purdue last year?
No, I don't think so. Last year, score might have been something like 27-17 (assuming we would have won!)
That's it, right there. That's what I'm finally feeling about Lefty. It's not just that the offense plays better each week, it's that they play better because of what they learned last week. For the last two years it has felt like Lefty was making it up as he was going along. Every game plan seemed like a one-off. This year it feels like he's building on what he has, expanding the plan a little each week. I watched him hang 50 points on a mediocre opponent, and it left me with the feeling that he has plenty more ammunition that he's saving for future games. I really feel like his investments are all starting to pay off.
Agreed, much more iterative this year. Last year, seemed like the game plans were so divergent game to game that he was reinventing his offense weekly. Often felt like he was trying to beat the defense at their weakness every game instead of building on what we do well to beat the defense.
Right now, we are doing a great job of extending horizontally in both the passing and rush game. Getting good deep shots because of it. We could focus a bit more on north-south running for my taste, but maybe either we are working towards it or we don't have a back capable of it currently.
#BEAMERSWAG all day baby! All night!
Shai is just giddy. Can't believe what the old man is doing! Love it!!
I know its breaking a cardinal rule betting on your team but Im happy to report my confidence that our hokies could cover 6.5 earned me a hefty $80. This victory is sweet in all kinds of ways.
VT opened as only a 4 point fav over ECU, hope you got on that. it jumped to 8 immediately. It would have to be north of 13 for me to go ECU.
So much better than Dabo Swinney's awkward dances. At least Frank's are more tongue-in-cheek.
That video just makes me too happy. No matter how many times I watch it, it puts a smile on my face.
Ya know what else makes me just as happy as seeing Frank Beamer dancing?
