2015 Six Pick - Week Four

The Six Pick always feel better after an impressive VT win the week previous ... no matter how poorly you may have picked. I watched Leonard Fournette's running and Kliff Kingsbury's post game trash talking to prep me for week 4. I can conquer the world.

Power 5's Power Index

  1. SEC - Still the boss, but like me as I've aged, the top is getting thinner and the middle is getting bigger. "PAWWWWWWL, BCO says the conference has a dad bod."
  2. Big 12 - Poised to strike if the SEC self implodes, bonus points for top QB play and coaches who trash talk the SEC.
  3. Pac 12 - A lot like the SEC, they'll eat their own, also like the SEC, blame how deep the conference is when no one steps up to control it.
  4. Big 10 - 2.5 teams out of 14, that's 1.5 better than the ACC and arguably the two top 5 teams.
  5. ACC - A power 5 conference with no power school, we back!

Saturday, September 26th
Georgia Tech -8.5 at Duke
12:00 pm ESPN2

  • Damn it, Cutcliffe, you can't even let the ACC take control of the Nerd Cup. The idea you'll do VT a solid and beat GT seems unlikely at best
  • I am in the very small minority, but I like the triple option, I like GT's salty ahole coach (as long as he loses to VT,) but I went out on a limb for you, Paul vs ND and you let Brian Van Gorder own your team. OWNED IT. Extra Chop Block practice this week. Poor Duke

Pick: GT laying the points, not because they are mad about last week, but because Duke is just ok.

3:30 pm CBS

  • This is the most Florida man tailgate vehicle ever, I fully expect the owner to cook meth in the front while having drunken (is there any other Florida way?) self happy time in the back. Go Gatas
  • The good news for Butch Jones and puke orange nation, Florida isn't ranked, so the Vawls have a real shot at winning this game, the bad news for UT is they are 4-18 vs Florida since 1993

Pick: Florida barely covering, the real play here is the under though.

  • The new and improved Kliff Kingsbury makes every Red Raider feel like some self happy time. There really needs to be Vine of this with Kingsbury's face interspliced a time or 2 to "Shake It Off" ... make it happen interwebs
  • Prediction: in 3 years TCU is 100% known for the air raid passing attack, a defense that gives up a decent amount of points and yards, but gets a lot of sacks and turnovers ... this is the new college football

Pick: TCU, laying the points and winning by twice the spread, but there will be a lot points scored by both teams.

8:00 pm ABC

  • I have no clue what to expect in Arizona's first game of the season, glad they decided to play this year, now waiting on Baylor and NC State to join in
  • Josh Rosen looked so bad last week versus BYU, that Les Miles wants him to transfer to LSU to compete for the Tigers job. Josh don't go Kenny Hill on us!

Pick: UCLA covering the spread, yes Arizona will be up, but they also haven't been punched in the mouth yet.

8:00 pm BTN

  • If you think I'm including Hawaii just to show off their fantastic Rainbow Warrior Mascot, you'd be correct. Their throwback uniforms are also spectacular ... in a losing effort
  • Ohio State needed the 4th quarter to pull away from Hawaii, so their might be more fight in them than is expected ... that's a pretty big spread.

Pick: Wiscy laying the points. After awhile flying from the islands to mainland, especially the upper midwest gets to be a pain in the ass.

  • Bears watching, Oregon has playmakers, but didn't look explosive vs the Spartans. Was that a one week thing or is it a function of a new (injured) QB, a great defense, or year 3 without Chip Kelly in control of the Offense? TBD, but it's backup QB Jeff Lockie's show on Saturday
  • I'd like to make some joke at the expense of Utah, their university, their fans, their coaches ... something, anything, but they might be the most boring university ever ... unless you want me to keep posting drunk coeds mooning you pics?

Beer of the Week

Barreled Souls Bourbon Barrel Aged Dark Matter
Barreled Souls is small Maine brewery where primary fermentation is done in 50 gallon oak barrels. That's pretty boss. I plan to enjoy a few of their libations, especially their Bourbon Barrel Souls Dark Matter Stout because why not rack it on more oak if you can. I can't fully explain how excited I am to go to this really, really unique brewery.

Picks are against the spread. I assure you, the first 3 weeks results will be up tonight, we've run into time and internet connectivity issues.

TCU -6.5 at Texas Tech: Frogs, and it won't even be close.

Beer of the weekend, a local IPA that just hit the streets in cans last week. Head brewer was at EVO and "made" the Lot 3, and before that learned the craft at Harpoon for years. Both this and the Lot 3 are solid beasts that compare very well to the 60Minute from DFH.

Georgia Tech -8.5 at Duke: Think the bees cover but not by much
Tennessee at Florida -1.5: ummm...cause SEC hype about them??? I'm Ron Burgundy???
TCU -6.5 at Texas Tech: Covers big
UCLA -3.5 at Arizona: I think UCLA gets to the PAC-12 Championship game
Hawaii at Wisconsin -24.5: I don't know if back to back trips to the midwest help, whoever scheduled that is wrong
Utah at Oregon -10.5: I'm going with the Utes tailgate because of....well you know.....

Back after a post OSU inspired hiatus:

Georgia Tech - Because it's Duke back to being Duke.
Tennessee - Florida is going to lose at the last minute, or win by 1 point somehow.
TCU - The Frogs are a scoring machine.
UCLA - No comment.
Wisconsin - I really hate a spread like this, because this margin of victory rarely happens when you want it to, but it IS Hawai'i.
Utah - Utah beating the spread. I feel like Oregon is having some hiccups lately, and Utah is nothing to laugh at.
