As a Packers fan I noticed this last week but it seems as though Kyle Fuller has struggled quite a bit so far this year and has subsequently been benched. They replaced him in the 4th quarter this past weekend. Hopefully he gets it sorted out but its alarming how ineffective VT players in the pros have been thus far this year.

There has been great play from quite a few Hokies in the pros. We used to have a segment on here by someone who went through how all the Hokies did the previous week in the pros. Wish we still had that.
I see what you did here.
They were also losing badly and there may have been little reason to keep playing him regardless of playing level. Getting to rest in the 4th of a game you've already lost isn't anything I'd worry about. He had a stellar rookie season, they won't bail on him just because the Packers and Rodgers beat them up (he still only logged 2 TDs on the day and under 300 yards so it's not like they let him go ham). Coming from a guy that didn't watch the game but follows Hokies in the pros, I guess I wouldn't hit the sirens yet.
Apparently Larry Fitzgerald was beating him like a cheap drum.
In fairness, Larry Fitzgerald has beaten many VT DBs like a cheap drum. Just the curse of Pitt extending to the pros.
In fairness, Larry Fitzgerald has beaten many NFL DBs like a cheap drum.
There is a reason that Calvin Johnson when asked who the best receiver in the NFL answers Larry Fitzgerald.
Given #DBU, a large portion of those guys are Hokies
Thanks goodness Kam Chancellor is back. Fitzgerald is not happy about that.
Ehhh if you read around the internets from the last couple weeks, he's been struggling big time in their secondary. And as far as his stellar rookie season, I thought the same thing until I read multiple articles siting how much he struggled on the tail end of last season. They're expecting him to be a star right now because of his first round status, but he isn't delivering for them. If you just google around you'll find some remarks from his coaches on how he needs to improve. I love KF17 but apparently he needs to step it up
sophomore slump...
At the tail end of last season he was about the only healthy DB that Chicago had AND he was still a rookie AND he had a broken hand IIRC. I am not sure what they have done in the offseason, but the Chicago secondary is not exactly stellar and he is likely getting a pretty big role for a second year player.
Tyrod tho
And Kam's back, I hear.
VT players have generally been ineffective in the NFL. I'm happy some have made it, but I'm never surprised when they're benched or cut, because college seems to be their ceiling (a small few excepted).
Except for a very few, select programs, this is extremely common in the NFL. There's a reason they draft 224 new bodies every year.
There's actually 256 drafted players. Some teams are given compensatory picks if they qualify and get additional picks.
Ah. I'd just multiplied 32 players by 7 rounds
The only reason I know is because I made the same mistake before and somebody corrected me haha
Being drafted into the NFL puts you into a class of your own, making a roster of 53 men, means you are ELITE.
Yeah!

Winning the Heisman legitimizes your talent.
- Ron Dayne, Tim Tebow, RG3, Jonny Football
all of those guys are talented. It takes more than talent to make it in the NFL though. Need to have the right attitude, work ethic, leadership skills, mental fortitude, and decision making skills on AND off the field. Not every Heisman winning talent has the rest of the ingredients to make it big in the NFL
Don't forget the importance of the team you're on and the system they run.
I'm not trying to downplay the importance of the team or the system, but in a lot of cases that is out of the players control. I certainly did not provide an exhaustive list but I was trying to hit on qualities that the players do have control over. There are all sorts of factors that influence the success of NFL players and talent is one of the many but certainly not the most important. IMO talent may get you to the league but it won't directly translate to success without adding a lot of the other qualities
Yep. Look at OJ. Excelled on a shitty team, eh? If you're a truly great player, you will rise to the top in whatever bowl of milk you're thrown into. In the NFL, anyway. A truly great football player doesn't always win in the game of life.
Being a #1 pick means you're guaranteed to be enshrined in Canton.
- Ki-Jana Carter, Tim Couch, JaMarcus Russell, David Carr
Except for DB's.
Sophomore slump. Happens to a lot of players during their second year.
I wouldn't say that VT players struggle in the NFL any more than players from any other school. The avg career is only 3 years. There are some really good VT players in the league right now they just don't have super star status like watts or Brady.
hold up... a post about Kyle Fuller where I can't use the "high fiving the ref" gif? Unacceptable! Joe please delete this aberration immediately
No sacks from the D on the bears. They are trying to make him their #1 DB. Sorry but I never saw the kid as a #1 NFL cover DB...I know little about football... so take it FWIW... but to me putting him on a #1 WR is a braindead idea. There are plenty of stupid NFL DCs, and I think this Bears guy is one of them.
Put this kid in a scheme with a different DC, different scheme, and he'll thrive. Haven't watched Pittsburgh in a while but with all the ball hawking they allow everyone on defense to do... he would be great there. Bears seem to think its all about the LBs (offseason acquisitions)... but their LBs aren't getting it done.
Beyond that you've got their safety giving interviews on local media talking about what KF is doing right or doing wrong.
Maybe they are sending a message, but my guess is the Bears just ain't what they used to be and the DC ain't about to fix it. Neither is Jimmy Clausen.
It must have been a while since you watched Pittsburgh. This season they don't have a INT,
last year they ranked 25th,
2013 they were 29th,
2012 they were 27th
2011 they were 24th
They haven't ranked in the top half of the league in picks since 2010 when they were tied for 5th with 21 picks, and they ranked 25th the year before that.
This is coming from a Steelers fan, they need to find a way to increase the number of picks they get.
when the guy with big hair was around they blitzed from everywhere... were actually an entertaining D to watch
my sense was it was more like Bud's D... bringing guys from wherever... slipping into zones and/or sliding man guys over... again ... I think that would be a better system than Kyle on an island with the #1 WR
FWIW every highlight I saw against the charges last week was on Brandon flowers. made me sad. :(
At first glance, I thought this said Kendall Fuller benched! Don't scare me like that, VTB!
I'm so glad I'm not the only one!
The Bears are pretty terrible. I think he will still have a 10 year career in the league. Can't keep a Fuller down for long.
