I'm really excited about the additional/more accessible BBQ options. There's a very serious lack of BBQ in Blacksburg.
TOTS' ribs and fried green beans are the best kept food secret in Blacksburg.
Fried green beans? How long have they had those? And do they have fried okra?
And they come with this slightly spicy dipping sauce that's similar to what you get with a bloomin' onion. At least since 2012, and I don't think they have okra.
Who's a top and who's a bottom?
Be a power bottom

I wish there was more of a published history of that place. A friend of mine at the time owned it for a stint before it became The Balcony.
Great, means they can pack more people in while I enjoy the other bars.
My feelings exactly. I still don't know what about TOTS is so great that people will pay to get it. It is the only single (of about 10) bars "downtown" with a cover. I mean all the outdoor space is nice, but there are only about 3 months of the school year that make this worth it
It always seemed more like a Greek thing to me. Most of the people I met at TOTS were in Frats or Sororities. Plus due to the cover the guy:girl ratio was much better than the other bars. However, after going there a few times and being tired of having no personal space we would just skip it and go to The Underground and play darts.
That being said, TOTS is fucking amazing in the summer and hands down one of the best bars then. The crowd is a lot smaller and you can actually enjoy sitting out on the patio with a nice summer breeze. And then rails, always the rails.
Speaking of patios, the outdoor seating at Sharkey's is great. We were driving from Virginia Beach to Asheville on vacation last year and stopped in Blacksburg for lunch. It was during the USA/Germany world cup match, so the inside was ridiculously packed, but we sat outside with the kids and it was great. That's a great corner in the summer. I can imagine it would be a little crazy outside on the weekends during the school year though.
Wait VB to Asheville NC? And you were driving past Blacksburg? I like how you got your wife to think that was the best route.
We were also stopping over to spend the night at my mom's place in the Tri-Cities.
TOTS in the summer is everything that is right in this world. Granted...I haven't done TOTS in the summer since...oh shit I'm old
TOTS has the most girls and rails are awesome.
Guess times have changed. The rail and Greek life was the only reason to go there when I was in school. Or the occasional band (saw 2Skinnee Js there and we had the floor ready to break). Big Als always had the hotter girls, (Arnold's, prestons, Woodys, and then new sharkeys) second, with all the actual date able girls at Hokie House, Champs, PKs, or old sharkeys. Rivermill had the patchouli girls.
agreed. never enjoyed TOTS, unless a band was playing. Cover charge is ridiculous. And way to fratty (and I was in a fraternity!)
When I was in school ('01-'07), Rivermill was my #1
TOTS was never really my bar. Power Hour at the Hokie House was mandatory attendance.
I like this guy.
I will get everyone on this thread a...uh...A Baseboard!!...Yes! That's what we'll call it!
-me after 4 rails
I never knew TOTS had food...news to me.
I stumbled back to West AJ many times after All You Can Eat Rib night.
So full.....
I just remember hanging out at Ton 80 with half the Civil Engineering professors.
Those were good times. Throwing darts with the professors and playing the NTN Monday night football with $5 pitchers of black and tan.
We were there one day, um, playing darts and day-drinking, when the owner showed up. He had picked up his beer order in his van, and asked if the 4 of us would help unload, carry it upstairs, and he would cover our tab. SOLD! I think we made out OK on that deal...
What a time to be alive
I was more of a Cellar hammer time guy myself.
Yes and yes. And yes.
As you could probably guess, so was I.
STOP!

Cellar is my go-to.
Didn't miss a single Thursday Hammer Time my senior year. Even kept my last receipt of pita pizza and a pitcher, $13.61
Many people who have visited TOTS have ended up at BOTS, due to consumption of too many SHOTS.
Well, it's about time.
Always been more of a Rivermill, Cellar and Underground guy myself, but I can get behind anything that helps the local businesses downtown. Would love to see more of this and less Mellow Mushroom (read chains).
I was always more of a Liverkill kind of guy but I did like to end my night at TOTS just to watch the shitshow that TOTS at last call usually is. Gotta time it right though, because they run out of Rail Juice about 1.
I think I went to TOTS twice ever and both of those were at the tail end of a bar golf session. PKs was my usual haunt.
