The link above (in my post, not the OP) shows a shot of the helmet during an overcast day. Parts look extremely dark. But the highlighted areas show the maroon, with the sparkle. The one above looks all black to me. The bright spots would show the sparkle. Maybe it's the same helmet used in the past years, but looks different to me.

The helmet in your photo is clearly maroon with sparkles, but I'm not seeing any sparkles in the poster. It looks like a different helmet to me as well, and appears jet black, but sometimes lighting is tricky.

This is a good point. You can also see that part of the glove is maroon (the wrist-strap) and it is against the black parts of the glove that are the same color as the helmet.

Its probably our normal helmets, just with color correction to make it appear very very dark. I doubt they rolled out all new shells. The orange chrome ones got a similar photoshopping effort for the game poster.

because I get bored waiting for Saturday I went ahead and sampled some of the colors on the helmet. All samples returned black:
Here is a direct color comparison of the orange outline of the vt compared to the helmet:
It still could be a high contrast image by whoever made it but you never know. Our eyes see maroon because that is what we are used to, but that is a picture of a black helmet.

Perhaps "NOT New Very, Very Dark Maroon Helmets" would be more appropriate?
I don't think we've worn very, very dark maroon before. If they were black, they wouldn't be new.
My point is that they aren't different from our standard maroon helmets. It's the picture that makes it look darker than it is.

I can see the hint of maroon in that pic for sure. The pic at the top of this thread, however, looks pretty much jet black to me.

I think the jet black looks pretty good, and certainly reflects the correct "take no prisoners" mood this team needs.
