5* QB David Cornwell unofficial visit this weekend

A statement about Loeffler already is that the only reason Cornwell is coming to VT on a visit is because of his relationship with Loeffler. Loeffler was recruiting Cornwell when he was at Auburn, and as such Cornwell was interested in Auburn. Well now he is interested in VT and not AU.

Said that Cornwell and his father admire the work that Loeffler has done with putting qb's into the NFL.

Cornwell will attend the VT baseball game, have film sessions with Loeffler and unofficial times with Logan Thomas.

This dude can play.

I'm really excited about Bucky Hodges... But I would love to get David Cornwell as well. I think he'd fit in perfectly with what Loeffler wants to accomplish on offense.

Loeffler didn't recruit Hodges when he was at Auburn. I think if we get Cornwell or Parks, they may be the next starter (probably in some initial platoon with Leal then taking over mid-season)

Don't sleep on Hodges now. He'd have a full year in Loeffler's system on them... Plus the kid can play. I wouldn't be shocked if Hodges starts after Leal graduates.

God I just hope we have the problem of too many talented QBs to start...way better than the alternative.

Rumor now is Cornwell may not be able to make it this weekend

Not the news I wanted to see this morning. We have to get him on campus

So were there any legs to this rumor? Did he make it down? He's been awfully quiet on twitter.

Cornwell may not be able to even play this Fall based upon this article. He would probably drop down the boards if this doesn't get resolved. Hard to stay ranked as the top QB if you don't play a single snap your senior season. It will be interesting to follow what will happen with this.

Does it tweak anyone else that ESPN says that he is a "Alabama and Notre Dame" target. I guess it will make it that much sweeter when we #beatbama

Couldnt he just go to FUMA or something?

Based upon his tweets, he visited Bama, but didn't come to Blacksburg it seems.

I just don't see him truly even considering us, based on his comments.

So for what it is worth, one of the top QBs, Kyle Allen, just announced he was going to Texas A&M. Another top QB, Brandon Harris, is between LSU, Bama, and A&M. Presumably he would not commit to A&M. Should he commit to Bama, things could fall in line for Cornwell to commit to us.

Has Cornwell cooled on Tennessee? I understood it was between Bama and UT with us on the outside looking in.

From what I've heard, Alabama is his favorite, but VT and others are in the thick of it. As I understand it, Saban wants to see a QB throw in person before he offers a committable scholarship. Cornwell went to Bama this past weekend, and may be waiting on the Tide before he makes his decision. A few QBs have visited Alabama recently. Once Alabama makes their offer, the dominos will fall. At the end of the day, I think we end up with either Cornwell or Park, both of which are damn fine prospects.

I hear that Mason Rudolph is in the running as well. I don't think we'll take 3 qbs (so McMillan and Park/Cornwell/Rudolph) in one cycle

4* QB Mason Rudolph from South Carolina visited VT this weekend and loved it. 247 updated their crystall ball to have two different experts predicting Rudolph to VT.

This. This guy is pretty good too. Apparently the he's going to make his commitment, from what I've read, within the next week or two. And with all three of these guys who are fairly high on us making their decisions soon, we should know where we stand in the future. Here's Rudolph's highlights too from his sophomore year:

I hear that Bama is looking for a more mobile QB this time around, which certainly ups our chances with Cornwell.

My guess is that if Brandon Harris decides on Bama we'll get Cornwell.

Most of the recruiting sites that have a 40 time listed for him, have him as a 4.9, not blazing but not slow either. Last year he had 128 rushes for 755 yards and 6TDs.

I hear Philip Sims is available.

I'd love for us to be able to reliably protect a pocket passer. Hopefully this recruiting activity bodes well for us in that department.

Surprised that LSU is in the lead since they nabbed Anthony Jennings last year, wished he could have come to Tech

From ESPN article, he was reinstated and "He still plans on visiting Tennessee and Virginia Tech in the next two weeks before making a decision."
