Eleven Hokies made Phil Steele's Preseason All-ACC teams. I am a bit surprised Logan is his second team quarterback. Based on last season, and more than anything the offensive systems they play in, I would've thought Renner would be second team, Logan third. I consider James Gayle to be among the elite defensive ends in the ACC, but Jeremiah Attaochu and Kareem Martin are also great players. In Foster's system, stud end doesn't get as many opportunities to put up gaudy statistics. Regardless of the numbers, I think a slimmer Gayle will have his best season as a Hokie in 2013. Jack Tyler making Steele's first team is a testament to his work ethic and aggressive play, and the coaching staff's evaluation and player development.
What do you all think?

I'm surprised that LT3 is on second team over Renner (just based on last year).
DJ Coles has some motivation in looking at the WR list.
#BEATBAMA
Agree Logan should be 3rd team. Don't know much about other teams kickers but Journell seems to have been snubbed. Also think Luther Maddy was robbed--would put him at 2nd team before Hopkins.
Overall though Phil Steele is the MAN!
Hope to see Aj Hughes and Dadi somewhere on this list by the end of the season
Ugh. Demetrious Nicholson (2nd team CB) over Kyle Fuller (3rd team CB)?
I guess Phil will have to learn a thing or two this season.
Our offensive guys need to take a look at this and get it in gear to prove Mr. Steele wrong, but based on past production, I can't disagree with the offense (and LT3 over Renner is based on the assumption that there is no way he will repeat last season, but I would put Renner at 2 as well.)
On defense, Derrick Hopkins should be in the discussion for first team tackle. Nobody has been better on defense the last two seasons than MANBEARPIG. Maddy should probably get some consideration here, as should Kyle Fuller, but Fuller was really not good for a long stretch last year and I think this reflects that stretch.
By the way, it still chaps my ass to see Stephone Anthony and Travis Hughes on this list. Poor recruiting during that period (while actively interviewing for other jobs during the recruiting push) is the one black mark that Bud Foster has and will continue to have on my ledger.
I'd agree with your comment on Foster, as I think that was the same year Grant went to OSU (?).
BTW, who are we calling MANBEARPIG? I love it.
Derrick Hopkins is and shall always be MANBEARPIG
Indeed. I created a ManBearPig Hopkins in MSPaint but I can't figure out how to get the image into here. I guess I need to upload it to somewhere prior to linking to it? Ain't nobody got a URL for that. Oh well. I'll enjoy my HopkinsBearPig on my own.
Use imgur.com to upload it.
F*cking brilliant, Hokie_x3_Hi. Turkey leg for you.
Brilliant!
Don't forget about Stefon Diggs. Would have been nice to have him at WR this year.
I don't think we had a legit shot at Diggs though.
List looks ok to me. It's gonna be a lot of fun for opposing defenses to get pressure on FSU this year; they have 4 OL on the first two teams.
Let's just hope someone can stop that dominant running game that absolutely punished the Hokies last year...... tee hee.
One thing that stands out is all the FSU love on Steele's list. They put 11 guys in the NFL last year and have another 11 as 1st or 2nd team all-Steele ACC. If they are really that good, why aren't they dominating?!? BTW, I don't consider their performance last year as dominating. Too much FSU love.
Steele also predicted FSU to go to the National Championship. NCState and then Florida said otherwise.
I guess injuries aren't a factor if Tone is on the first team.
Because it's Tone, injuries don't matter.
Almost positive that Attaochu is an outside linebacker. Not sure why he's in the DE category... Also, surprised Hughes wasn't at least mentioned for Punter. In terms of the guy that will really surprise people and have a great year, I think Kyshoen Jarrett will be in the discussion for first team.
Also, I'm assuming that Journell was left off the list because Steele is predicting him to have another run in with the law by the end of the season. Hopefully that isnt the case.
Well he was an outside Backer in a 3-4 scheme. Not too uncommon for them to switch to a typical DE in a 4-3 scheme (which GT is switching too this year, I believe).
I'm not sure what GT is planning on doing with him, but it's conceivable he plays some DE.
Once they dumped algroh, their defense played well enough for them to represent the Coastal in the ACC Championship and then beat USC in the Sun Bowl (LOL @ lanekiffen!).
Quick Google search confirms Ted Roof is changing the 3-4 to 4-3 scheme. Additionally, I think Roof comes with a reputation of having a very aggressive, blitzing scheme that helped Penn State last season (I'm running this info off a random reading memory of mine), and it will be interesting to see how well the Bumble Bees makes the transition.
And yes, Achoo is going to play DE, from what I read.
Why is Steven Morris listed as a running back?
Because #goacc. It's that simple.
Have you seen him play quarterback? Might as well try him somewhere else.
I saw that too. There isn't another actual RB in the conference they could throw up there? Hell, LT is a better RB than Morris.
Look at the list of RBs. It's pretty damn pathetic. Basically anyone who is going to be a starter and has a pulse made the list.
Only one Hokie lineman in the list. That is why LT is the only other Hokie on the list. Doesn't look good.
