This is a big deal, not just because Brown is so highly rated as a prospect, but because many considered him to be a UVa lean early in the recruiting process. Having him in Blacksburg provides the coaches a great opportunity to sell him on Virginia Tech.

Why any defensive player would pick UVA over Tech is completely beyond me.
And Brown is a beast.
Right now, I'm really sad I can only award 1 turkey leg to this. This made my day.
Kid has awesome hand fighting skills off the ball. Looks like he plays angry.
Was gonna say... Looks like he's karate choping everybody!
The guy is an absolute beast as a 3 technique defensive tackle. He would be dominant in Bud Foster's system due to his strength and lateral quickness. Imagine Derrick MANBEARPIG Hopkins, and give him SEC size, strength, quickness, and WANT TO. As good as Hand is, dominant defensive tackles completely change the landscape in college football. As good as Cam Newton was, Nick Fairley was the top reason Auburn won a national title. Warren Sapp got a pretty average Miami to the title game (and damn near won it by himself.) Ends make the pretty plays, but tackles win championships.
I have no idea how we stand with Brown, but if they got him, it would be the biggest recruit the Hokies have landed since Bruce Smith.
Agreed, the 3 tech is arguably the most important position on the field (esp. in a 4 man front). If Brown came in with his size and fast twitch ability and was coached to stay low and keep separation by Foster & Co. we would have a Fairley situation on our hands. It would also free up the 2i and allow opportunities for him as well.
Hokies seem to have offered a scholarship to his teammate Jaylen Bradshaw.
Brown seems pretty impressed with our uniforms. The kid in the backwards hat is Deshawn McClease, a 2015 RB also out of Oscar Smith.
so...maybe us old guys should stop complaining about the uniforms? I don't care if we wear pink- if it pulls in recruits and helps us get to the next level!
Exactly. I've never really mentioned it because it seems that all keyplayers want us to wear only two uniforms a year but having numerous uniforms (some flashy) is the trend. It sticks out in these recruits minds and that stuff matters. I didn't like the hokie tracks and foghorn leghorn helmets, I get that, but us having multiple uniform options is a competitive advantage that we should embrace instead of complain about. With that being said, I'm very much for #allmarooneverything... but not all season.
Speaking of which, Brown also posted this photo - which appear to be the updated uniforms. Not a lot has changed other than the Retro-Logo being replaced with the standard "VT"
Well that's disappointing. I was excited for a revamp of the uniforms this year.
He looks fucking good in maroon and orange.
I like how we put up #65 uniforms for his visit. Little things make a difference...
Good catch. The only difference I can see is the trim around the neck is orange/maroon instead of white. Both of those jerseys would look sick with maroon pants
Edit: Scratch that trim nonsense I just said, the colors didnt change... Something other than the logo looks different though
Looks like the jersey fits nice. Also I love that his shirt says "Dream Killer", he's a VT type player...
Not good, that sounds like a uva football shirt. Since thats what playing for them does to dreams
True, but VT is always one to crush said dreams, thus "Dream Killer" seems appropriate.
I'm really not too concerned with what we wear, provided we never wear those orange helmets again. Especially not against UVA (or other, similarly colored schools... Syracuse, Clemson etc). Is that really too much to ask?
Hand said in this recent 24/7 article that he hasn't talked with Foster recently...ruh-roh

Maybe he isn't trying to pressure Hand. And who knows how long a while is.
I didn't realize Brown intends to announce before Football starts in the Fall and enroll early to get a head start. He talks about us around 1:30 and his timetable around 2:55.
His responses for UVA and VT are great. One needs him, the other would prepare him for the next level. I'd be interested to see his response after the OSU visit.
Urban pulls great DLine recruits. #1, 3, 9, 12 DEs in the 2012 class
All I know is this: I want the defense line to be pitching fits. I want Gayle to be the quarterback destroyer. I want the tackles to destroy the interior of the OL. I want Dadi Nicholas to be loosen like an eagle on the warpath. Is that too much to ask for?
This article from Recruit757 is promising: http://recruit757.com/blog/2013/06/03/hokies-offer-two-tigers/.
The first domino to fall here is Nnandi. That could happen soon and both UVA and VT feel pretty comfortable. If VT is able to swing Nnandi, I don't think UVA will get Brown....but he might not go to VT either. It feels like Brown's interest in UVA is based on a "everybody else is doing it" sales pitch.
That said, VT still has to consider that this recruiting class will not come together like it was supposed to. Holmes is already gone. Hand very well may choose Michigan (I'd say 60/40 VT right now). We look to be getting the 3* QB, not the 5* QB. I've never felt as great about Walker as most have, and he now says that "An FSU offer changes the game, that's the best program in the ACC." We're taking on our B-list of OL recruits. All and all, even if this "darkest timeline" comes to pass, it will be a very average VT class, in the 20's, 4th/6th best in the ACC.
But the brightest timeline starts with Nnandi and continues on to Hand then a hard push for Brown.
By the way, props to Stiney for staying on Brown when it didn't look good fairly recently. We're still in it because of him.
Had not seen this article posted here yet http://recruit757.com/blog/2013/06/05/andrew-brown-talks-college-choices/
Looks like we are there just have to close the deal.
Really good news!
He says he wants to do Music Production so I hope they showed him the new Center for the Arts that is opening this Fall. While it is more for concert performances and such, it's showing a new dedication to our Fine Arts programs. The place is incredible.
I love this nugget:
“UVA, UNC, and Alabama have offered to piece together something (to fulfill the major),” Brown explained. “They would set me up for internships and let me study the business side of the music industry. That’s why I can’t really knock those schools.”
Amazing (though un-surprising) what some schools will do to get a top recruit...Creating majors, offers to meet MJ, where does it end?
Safe to assume a situation like this is how the African-American Studies program at UNC started?
If only we did this for the top engineering students in the country, too.
If the top engineering students were going to make as much money for Tech as the top football players do, then Tech would.
UVA and UNC have been leading all along. This has changed dramatically over the last two weeks. I like where we sit.
So Hand and Brown are all heavily weighing their schools based on academics. Love this.
That is absolutely refreshing. I get tired of "What can you do for me" lately, instead are looking at what major they could get in the event they don't make it to the professional level. +1
