I can't tell what's on their helmet.
I think it's lewis and clarke, looking for a win for Oregon.
Or maybe looking at the signals of the other team.
It's Lewis & Clark along with the Duck styled as an explorer.
Looks more like Howard the Duck
That's gotta be the creepiest duck I've ever seen. Glad to get him off my screen.
Are you unfamiliar with Roboduck?
He now does birthday parties (seriously)
edit: not sure why the picture doesn't show but here it is

What's better for a birthday party than a big, scary bird?
Gotta get those fans when they're young.
It was nice of them to upgrade the 6-pack to a keg for the birthday party.
P.S. That's actually Russell Wilson in the picture.
You win.
Is the typographic map on the uniform just in case they can't find a win?
Not to discourage sharing of stuff like this because I do like football uniforms, but I'm not a big fan of this uniform. It will just look bland and grayish to 99% of the people that will see it because they'll be viewing it from more than 5 feet away.
It's definitely a subtle design that won't come across well during actual games. One of the neat things that they did is split the "trail map" across multiple jerseys so that each one is unique.
So along that line, what would a similar theme be for the Hokies? I'm too busy to think of one right now but legs for those that can.
I'd imagine something as simple as hokie tracks in place of the map would work well. Would need to be similarly subtle so that it didn't dominate the design but made the uniform clearly ours.
No Hokie Tracks. They end up looking like piles of dog turds. Maybe just a faint Hokie Stone background.
Although, turds may be more appropriate based on our play, lately.
I like the hokie stone idea even more! Good call.
We actually already use a Hokie Stone design in the basketball uniforms. Maybe a sign of things to come for football.
The map from the Caldwell homestead to Blacksburg would work.
There is the Wilderness Road which ran through the area and was vital in establishing communities further west than Southwest Virginia. Daniel Boone, Davey Crockett and many other famous people in history traveled through the area before heading west.

That helmet is horrible.
I think the people who would be in charge of this for us should focus more on the team winning games
If anything, maybe some X's and O's.
I fail to see how the Licensing area within the Athletic Dept focusing on winning would help us out... but ok?
That makes sense. With Oregons flurry of uniform changes the last 5 years it clearly hampered their on field success.....
Obviously this year is just the culmination of the last four years of mediocrity.
The Utah Utes didn't seem too hung up on uniforms.
Just sayin'.
If you think that, you haven't been paying attention....
I paid attention to their game vs Oregon.
I think I'll take CFB over the marketing department any day of the week.
Which one was calling the plays vs Pitt?
If I had to guess, I'd say the marketing department. ;)
Looked more like Pitt was calling our plays.
They certainly knew them as well or better than we did.
If only we were able to hire one group of people in charge of what we wear, and anther in charge of coaching the players.
O wait...
Some people have a serious misunderstanding of division of labor. I see comments like that all the time and I'm just like, man, do y'all think Frank is designing this stuff?
I mean rank Beamer with Photoshop MIGHT have been how we got the Foghorn Leghorn helmets...
The design team should be focused on winning?
The people who would be in charge of this have nothing to do with the team winning games. This line of thinking is absurd.
I think the offense should have to play in pink princess dresses after last week.
VT official colors only.
It's October.
Maroon princess dresses?
Chang always deserves a leg.
Here comes the William Addison Caldwell uniforms
Perhaps a map of Blacksburg or the NRV? I like the distinctive hokie tracks idea as a background effect.
There is a hat with a map of Blacksburg on it. I was at a UVA game with it on and some Hoosier lacrosse players thought it was dumb. I had the last laugh that day...
I don't like this at all, and I'm a geography major and map nerd. As stated above, the topo lines will never be seen from far away. But maybe that's the point. If the goal was to create a White/Gray uniform, they did it.
As for the helmet....woof. Awful. Worse than cartoon HokieBird.
It's the next step of the sublimated basketball uniforms...
That being said, I don't think it belongs on football uniforms.
Adidas has created some horrid background patterns on their unis this year. Keep ours simple; take away the shoulder stripes, get the colors, fonts, & logo consistent.
Monologue of the uniform creator at Nike...

If Whit and/or the VT PR dept sign off on anything remotely like that, I question their understanding of branding and marketing.
Don't worry, about 20 minutes after starting the game, half the team will die of dysentery.
Pretty cool design. I think the L&C logo thing is a bit too kitsch but other than that the graphics and color scheme all work.
49 comments about a uniform with the oregon trail on it and not a single reference to little Billy dying of dysentery? I gotta say, TKP, I'm a little disappointed.
Scroll up literally two comments. And then drink.
touche. My problem was looking figuratively...

It's okay, apparently few others got it either. All the legs on that comment didn't appear till I replied to you.
That'd be awesome. I'm sick of the old school uniforms. I'm ready for some new school stuff. I'd wait in line for hours to buy a VT version of that jersey.
I bet I'm the only one who just wants a maroon top with white numbers/letters and orange wings on the shoulder pads. Although I could go for some maroon pants with feather accents (like fourth gen trans-ams) on the thighs/knees. Would be kicking to get black cleats with orange hokie-track design on top/sides...one per shoe and all. That would be a mean maroon uniform...nothing too flashy, just 1 major cue (shoulder pads) and 2 smaller ones...add in that hokie stone helmet and all the bases are covered.
No thanks.
More uniform BS. Win a f'ing game.
Talking to Oregon?
All maroon all the time.
Don't like the collar strip, looks like the number two has a dingleberry.
And now I can't un-see that. Thanks Low Brau. Thanks a lot.
