OT: Fantasy Football trade help

In the all the years I have played FF, very rarely do I make trades. I have had one come across my desk this morning that is a bit intriguing but wanted to get the thoughts of some other football minds. This is for a $100 dollar season league I have been in for years with good friends on the east coast. I am currently 4-1 in first place.

I have been offered:
Cam Newton
Dion Lewis

I would send back:
Todd Gurley
Ryan Mathews

League rules - 2 QB, 3WR, 2 RB, 1 TE, 1 Flex, DEF, K

Current roster setup
QB1 - Stafford
QB2 - Tyrod

WR1 - Antonio Brown
WR2 - Julio Jones
WR3 - Randall Cobb

RB1 - Mark Ingram
RB2 - Todd Gurley

TE - Gary Barnridge

FLEX - Larry Fitzgerald

Def - Rams

K - Gostkowski

Bench:
Josh McCown
Ryan Mathews
Chris Johnson
Rishard Matthews
Teddy Bridgewater

Any thoughts? This would strenghen QB position (6 points per TD, any type), but would really weaken my RB situation.

Honestly, I would try and give them one of your receivers like Cobb or Fitz. You're absolutely stacked there right now and it would bring a lot of balance to your roster.

I agree with LAhokie, but I would actually offer Rishard since he's been solid this season and you'll keep all your studs.

But Lewis and Newton are huge upgrades for you, especially since Stafford sux.

4-1? First place? why fix what isn't broke?

@VTimHokie85

QB2 - Tyrod

I just want to know how it was even possible to draft Brown, Julio and Cobb on the same team?!?!?

2QB league, all the other guys went QB crazy the first few rounds. Since we have to start 3 WRs, I decided to focus there. Didn't think I would get those particular guys but they happened to be there. My QB situation suffered otherwise as you can see.

Given the QB-heavy league settings, (combined with your other QBs' situations), I'd say do it. Also worth noting when looking at value: you'd be getting two players who are already past their bye weeks while dealing away two players who still have them coming up.

Then I'd suggest trying to pull off a second deal to go along with it, sending away one of your bench QBs (McCown or Bridgewater) plus Lewis or CJ2K for an upgrade at RB.

I wanted to suggest selling high on Fitz (or moving from your WR depth in general) but you have a huge advantage on the league at that position, no reason to mess with it to fill another hole. Like Diehl suggested, you may look at moving Rishard too because he's been so good and has no role on your team.

I normally just look at the numbers to determine if this would work. Compare the points of who you'd start with and without the trade.
It looks like you'll be picking up about 6 points a week by getting Cam instead of playing McCown. But, McCown has been putting up at least 19 points for the last three weeks. He's impossible to figure out.
As for losing Gurley and picking up Dion Lewis, that could be a toss up after looking at the numbers. You know Gurley will be getting touches every week because he's the focal point of the Ram's offense. Dion Lewis is very receiving dependent. If you're doing a PPR league then he's a big asset. If you're not then you're probably giving away about 1.5 points here.
It seems like you come out ahead here, but that all depends on how consistent these guys are. Cam is probably more consistent. I have trouble trusting the Patriots with RBs, but Lewis has been pretty consistent so far.

You're too thin at RB to make that trade as-is. McCown and Bridgewater are both decent options at QB2. Cam would be an upgrade, but Pats RBs aren't trustworthy week-to-week, and Gurley looks like a monster. Keep what you got.

Do it, the numbers are in your favor as well as not having to worry about the bye weeks you are sending away. Both Cam and Lewis have already had theirs.

I am leaning towards making the trade.

Cam is an upgrade every week for me at QB in my opinion (I doubt McCown keeps playing the way he has been and who knows with Tyrod right at the moment.)

I think if I do this move, I look at some type of Rishard/Chris Johnson play for an RB, or perhaps target a high end guy and go straight up for Randall Cobb.

joining on this convo but need help myself.. sadly I am 1-4 in my $100 league..

I have freeman and a buddy of mine really wants him however I don't want to give him up for the cheap but also still want to see if a trade could be worked out.

QB- Ryan
RB1 - Freeman
RB2- Mcfadden
WR James Jones
WR Steve Smith
WR Kendall Wright
TE Eifert
Flex Landry

Bench RB - McCoy
Bench RB- C michael
Bench TE Marty B
Bench WR tavon austin
Bench Wr Crabtree
Bench WR Strong

would I be dumb in trading freeman and marty b for lets say gore snead and matt jones?

Yes. You would. Gore is an RB2, Snead and Matt Jones are both flexes at best. You certainly shouldn't give up the number 1 RB AND the highest targeted TE for that lot. Especially in a money league.

Agree. I don't think it's a terrible idea to sell high on Freeman if you can get a stud in return for him, but Gore is past his prime and Snead and Jones are just as likely to start for you as they are to be guys you drop in a week or two.

Is there a QB on waivers that you could pick up?

Not really. 10 team league, 2 QBs. So every team has 2-3 QBs on their roster already, so the waiver wire is a complete dumpster fire at that position (and WR as well, which is why my lineup there is easily the best position group in the league)

Keep your RBs, and trade one of your backup WRs for a QB.

The jury is still out on Tyrod's injury, BTW.

Another lineup help question:

In my other league that I'm in, I've had Tyrod and Matt Ryan on my roster all year, naturally Tyrod starting. With Matt Ryan not really putting up much points, and Tyrod's availability for Sunday in question here are my options:

1) Start Ryan, who plays tonight (Thurs), and not worry about Tyrod this week.
2) Leave Ryan on the bench, hope Tyrod is a go, pick up another QB as insurance in case he does not play....best QB options on the waiver wire are Cutler, Bradford, Hoyer

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Start Ryan tonight..saints aren't good this year

Onward and upward

Bradford has a great matchup this week against a battered Giants secondary that is not that good to begin with.

I am either putting in a claim for him or playing Matt Ryan tonight for the same reason mentioned above

I'd start Ryan. The TD's may not be there yet, but he's third in the league in yards. Saints are #23 in pass defense (and that's with a lot of teams running the ball on them in the second half when they're winning).

@historyhokie.bsky.social

Look for Matt Ryan to bounce back BIG TIME against the Saints after a bad outing against the Skins. He's been really good all season, and he may need to pass a lot if the Saints offense can get going against the Falcons defense. Hopefully he can get Julio Jones more targets/yards/TDs this game as well, he has a ton of success doing that.

I understand it's a 2 QB league, but carrying 2 backups is overkill (and on that note, in a standard league if you're keeping a backup you're wasting a spot). You're wasting a roster spot on low upside guys when you could be picking up fliers at RB or WR with the chance to get lucky. I'll never understand the Bridgewater hype, he'll never be better than an average QB. McCown is worth keeping just because the Browns running game is one of the worst in the league, if not the worst. If your league is PPR then do it and see if you can deal Stafford for a low-scoring high-upside guy. If it's not PPR then Lewis probably isn't worth it.

Rip his freaking head off!

I just happened to have 2 QB backups as I had just added McCown with the thinking that Tyrod was not playing this week. I've gotten rid of Bridgewater already this point to pick up a D for this week as I didn't want to drop the Rams D as I know someone would pick them up.

So my QB situation will either be Stafford, McCown, Tyrod or Cam, McCown, Tyrod when the dust settles., doing as you mentioned and moving Stafford for a low floor, high ceiling flyer.
