So much for him not wanting to leave Texas, eh guys?

I don't know if anyone believes for a minute that he was interested in staying at SMU.

Talk about a huge middle finger to Deputy Dabo though if he actually ends up at SC

We all knew SMU was a stepping stone, but I don't think any suspected that he'd be interested in his former employers instate rival.

Also, quite a few here were adamant that he'd stay in Texas.

I'm not sure the crux of the argument was that he wouldn't take a decent SEC job if it was offered.

A middle finger to Dabo or a huge set of Spurs to his rear?

Huge slap in the face to South Carolina, probably fans and coaching staff alike...though I'm sure that's not his intent. USCe would be a good program to run though, no doubt.

For the record, Chad Morris has expressed interest in taking over at Virginia Tech when Beamer retires. When you're an up and coming guy like Morris, you're going to be interested in most P5 jobs.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

Full disclosure, I didn't read the "which coaches are actually available to take over for Frank" thread.

That being said, I think an early retirement ('15 rather than the highly anticipated '16) would have a huge impact on the coaching search landscape, nationally speaking. (and for us)

One that would benefit or hinder us, do you think?

Yes.

Depends on who gets hired.

Many jobs opening up this year, and several of the young but talented coaches we've shown interest in may be gone. I think it would be good (this year) as long as two things happen:
1. Whit lives up to his billing/reputation
2. The parting is mutual and on a relative high note.

I guess my only thing is how lucrative of a job is Tech compared to what's out there currently.

Interesting resume. Aggie so very similar to VT, math degree with stats minor , smart, innovative seems to be doing a good job at SMU. We could do a lot worse

I'd love to see him as a candidate for the next VT coach.

Yeah with all the recent coaching vacancies I'm not sure we get Morris as he may be gone unless beamer retires this year. I think we are in the hunt for him if Beamer hangs it up after this year.

I also don't know where the "No way he's leaving texas!" mantra came from. All big texas schools are locked in with a coach and Strong just smashed OU and solidified his job for at least another year or two.

I think Strong should get some time at Texas, but I don't think he solidified his job. The OU was huge, but there will be a lot of pressure if they stink it up down the stretch. If guys like Chip Kelly, Saban, etc. are interested in Texas then I think he could be a goner.

I think I read an interview with Chip Kelly saying he wasn't interested in going back to college coaching right now. I also doubt Saban will leave Alabama but then again he did leave LSU.

We've already been through the Saban to Texas rumors. If he didn't go last year or the year before, then he's not going.

Kelly might not have a choice...

Reality has a mighty pimp hand.

Saban was 53 when he left LSU for the NFL. He'll be 64 on Halloween, and his desire to start over again might be much less than it was 11 years ago.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Yeah and I think a lot of people's favorite, myself include, Justin Fuente is off the shelf too.

Yup, I think he can get the pick of the litter in December after beating Ole Miss yesterday.

Huh? With all the recent vacancies, VT won't get Morris unless Beamer leaves after this year? Are you assuming that the VT job (if it opens this year) would be the best offer he'll get? Or that he won't take a calculated gamble on a better job (Texas, Auburn, etc.) opening up next year?

I know that Chad Morris inherited a bad team and is only in year 1 (or as some would say year 0) but that record with the loss to JMU worries me if he was the fill a vacancy after this year at VT. If the vacancy wouldn't be for a couple of years and Chad Morris has had time to prove himself then I'd definitely be for it.

Think with USC its a slightly different situation since he already has so many ties to their recruiting areas where they would put him under consideration.

I like Herman more than him honestly. Either would please me though.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

I think we all like Herman better, but as of.now we are third in line for coaches. USC e&w will be one and two, with half a season of firings and resigning left.

The JMU loss worries.me, but they here coming off a brutal early season schedule, and JMU isn't a bad team at all this year

Bet Clemson fans would love that.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

100% guarantee: IF Chad Morris goes to USCe, Clemson fans will mock him and disrespect him and live in denial that he is the reason they are relevant now. He attracted all the offensive talent to Clemson and completely changed the product that program was putting on the field every week while Dabo came up with stupid ass sayings and acted the cheerleader for the media. It will all come crashing down when Deshaun leaves and Venables takes a HC gig somewhere.

Dude looking to get a raise. Smart to float his name out there.

This is a little OT, but does anyone else remember Coach Dream sending out a press release after the PSU job opened, kinda spontaneously declaring for no fathomable reason that 'I am not interested in the PSU job?'

Reality has a mighty pimp hand.

I would love Morris, Herman, or Fuente. Any of them, let's get the future rolling w a young new coach. One or more of these three will be an elite coach in the not so distant future.

I think I called this in the other thread. He knows the area, can recruit there, and it is a step up from where he is.

OF COURSE he's interested in the USCe job. Who isn't interested in a promotion that allows you to go back to where you know the recruits and were successful.

In other news...
I'm also interested in the USCe job.

Proposed Assistants:
1. French
2. Whoever French thinks would make a good asst.
3. Erin Andrews

If Erin Andrews doesnt make the cut for you, I will take her.

I think he was clear that Erin Andrews made HIS cut.

The question is whether he makes hers.

Vtkey! After all we've been through.....

But seriously, if I get hired as an SEC football coach with no experience, things are going well enough for me that Erin Andrews will hop aboard my staff.

"11-0, bro"
-Hunter Carpenter (probably)

I hope they go with someone else so that we can try and poach him!
