And before you ask, no, we have no clue where Harvey Updyke was involved.
Earlier today, Twitter chatter began to surface that the famed Howard’s Rock at Clemson’s Memorial Stadium was vandalized at some point of late by an unknown number of perpetrators. In a press release Wednesday evening, the school confirmed that The Rock , named in honor of legendary Tigers head coach and College Football Hall of Famer Frank Howard, “was vandalized sometime June 2nd or June 3rd.”
“We take vandalism, especially of such an important part of our history, very seriously,” said athletic director Dan Radakovich in a statement. “Police are investigating.”
The release from the school added that “[a] small portion of The Rock was broken off of its pedestal after vandals broke the casing that protects the artifact.
Damn. I've seen in the blogosphere that some Tigers are ready to knock the lights out of some Gamecocks over this.

On one hand... I've really come to hate Clemson lately, ...and on the other.. well, I hate the SEC just a tad bit more. (can't stand their hive mind mentality "we are the SEC..yadda yadda") ...where was I going with this, ..ah yes, whatever the case, I hope the find the vandals and justice is served and/or Clemson beats the brakes off of USC this year.
I can understand the anger over this.
If someone took the Hokiestone from the tunnel, I'd be pretty pissed...
Yeah, that's pretty much where I was going with my post. I just had to express my hatred of Clemson as of late (though I am glad that they beat LSU)
From a post on E$ECPN:
Toomer's Oaks (check)
Howard's Rock (check)
Can someone make sure nobody feeds Renegade any corn soaked in anti-freeze?
I thought that was pretty funny.
Hmmm....payback?

I'm sorry, but can we please discuss the fact that USC-E has a series of train cars called the "Cockabooses"?
I say if any Hokie at any time does any permanent damage to anything held dear to a rival fan base that we exorcise that former Hokie from our ranks.
Edit: The tiger paw painted on the field, or the T added to the V in Charlottesville are clearly not permanent, and all in good fun. I'm even willing to forgive the removal of the letter after we beat GT last year. Things that are replaceable are fair game. But Toomer's and Howard's are out of bounds. Putting a #BeatBama shirt on the Saban statue, totally in bounds.
My Game of Thrones mind will somehow find a weird connection between how Oregon, UL-Lafayette and Oxford framed South Carolina for this.
The Ducks send their regards.
There's been an update in the case of what caused the damage to Howard's rock. Experts believe it was the pressure related to not living up to lofty pre-season expectations.
OMG. As sad as it is to see an iconic treasure vandalized, this is a hilarious comment. Turkey leg for you, sir, for your creativity.
As one of the comments on the Deadspin article said, there are now two Howard's Rocks though.
