2016 PF/C Khadim Sy commits to Buzzketball

#BUZZKETBALL got its first commitment of the 2016 class in 6'9 225 lb (via 24/7)/6'10"235 lb (via Rivals) big man Khadim Sy of Oak Hill Academy.

Rivals: 3 star
24/7: Not Ranked

Corey Evans of HoopSeen.com talked to Sy tonight:

"I think I will be a good fit for them and that I will fit in there," Sy spoke on the reasoning for why he selected the Hokies. "They have good coaches, good academics, and can make me a better player," the Oak Hill star went on to state further about the situation in Blacksburg.

An actual center? Those aren't exactly dime a dozen anymore, I like it.

How's he trending? Seems like a lot of the guys we get are 3* early only to move up to 4* after more people get a chance to evaluate. The Buzz Bump, shall we call it.

I've seen him listed as a PF twice and a C twice, so not really sure. I'd bet that he's listed at PF because he's playing there in high school since they have two other guys who are taller/bigger, but profiles more as a C moving forward (my mostly uninformed position, that is).

Per Scout.com, he had offers from Georgia Tech, Kansas State, Purdue and Wake and had interest from Miami, New Mexico and West Virginia. His Scout.com profile also listed loluva as a school that had interest in him.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

Most improved player in the country?

6'9 senior Khadim Sy has been at Oak Hill for three years. He has always been a work in progress. We have often thrown around the term "upside and potential" in describing Sy. Sy was outstanding against Huntington Prep. He had a game high 19 points including 7-9 from the free throw line. Sy worked hard in the paint working for low post position. He used his body extremely well in sealing the defender and has the ability to use either hand.

In the first 20-minute scrimmage, Oak Hill won 47-32. Simply put, Oak Hill was just too deep for Huntington Prep. Playing without the consensus number one player in the country in Harry Giles, Oak Hill looks like a team in midseason form. Eight players scratched the scoring column and 6'9 senior Khadim Sy was the most dominant player on the court. This is Sy's third year at Oak Hill and the improvement in Sy is unbelievable. He finished with 11 points and controlled the boards on both ends of the court

including 7-9 from the free throw line

A big man that can shoot free throws?! Hallelujah! Just what the Hokies need. Hopefully he can continue that trend.

Also, 8,000th leg from me. You're welcome and congratulations ;)

Wait, he can shoot free-throws?

That will be a nice change.

Though I must say, I have the impression that VT has been improving in that category.

Sounds to me like he's going to get a lot more interest before this is over. Thankfully, we have Buzz. So we got that going for us, which is nice.

Sy has been trying to commit to us for a few months now. He's solid.

As in he has been waiting for an offer from Buzz?

Offers aren't always offers. He's had an offer, we've been playing the numbers game trying to figure it out.

Could be related to Ty Outlaw's situation.

Buzz doesn't seem to be done.

Bravo, sir.

Buzz is killing it with the recruits. can only imagine how well we'll do in the ACC in about three years...

I was wondering when we'd fill that scholarship spot. Good size with a high motor to boot. Sounds like a great fit for Buzzketball.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

/thinks "wondering when we'd fill that scholarship spot" with a 2016 player sounds odd, then remembers this isn't football.

BRING THE TALL GUYS IN.

A relatively new coaching hire killing it with passion and love of the game, can't wait...

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:

Rebounder AND Rim Protector?!?!? Next you will tell me he can walk and chew gum at the same time. After the last couple of seasons I thought these kinds of players had gone extinct.

Seriously, it is good to see Buzz filling the roster with what look like missing pieces. Finding a player that will address our shortcomings around the rim was crucial and I like the spacing as Sy will be two years apart from most of our current "bigs". Seems like our recruiting years have been boom and bust, 4 great players one year and then 2 so-so guys each of the next 2 makes for a rough transition after graduation.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

Also am I the only one that is having a major Hokie personality complex? The offense is keeping our defense in football games, but ultimately can't do enough to get the W and I am looking forward to basketball season BEFORE the end of football season. WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING HERE!?!?

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

It is obviously opposite year

Can anyone find some video of this kid playing? I looked briefly but I cant find much

OMFG I just saw this. Welcome to the good guys, big man. We definitely will need you underneath the rim.

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

After suffering through JVZ's 37% from the line, you have no idea how happy that 7-9 free throws makes me. Nice write up too. Loving the recent basketball coverage
