What better way to decide who our next coach should be then on the field? Previous year programs success be damned. Standings will be updated each contest, will also be updated if in the probable event the AAC Championship has both candidates, or if bowl games bring in other candidates.
Edit: Due to popular request, I have now started to track Cincy coach Tommy Tuberville, who was previously hired by Whit. Old Whit hire vs New Whit hires

this is a cool idea
what happens if VT hires none of those guys?
Then our children will look back to this thread and utter 'what if'
I want to see how my man crush, Ken Niumatalolo, does against all these guys. Every AAC coach is getting hyped up for these big time jobs, while my guy at Navy keeps winning games with Division 1-AA level athletes.
He's on GT's target list.
#pipeline
Perhaps, he'll go to Hawaii's open spot. Not sure if he'd prefer to coach at his alma mater, or keep it going with the USNA.
Navy is now ranked 22 and is 7-1, they crushed memphis.
And since Memphis is no longer undefeated, now fuente is wholly unsuited to become VTs coach.
Good for Navy, I hope they get enough exposure to where they can take GTs recuits
I read a great article last week, can't find it now of course, but it talks about the requirements the coaches at the academies are under. It's crazy, players have to weigh a certain amount coming in and the day they graduate, some Navy O lineman lose 60 lbs from last game to graduation week. The SAT, GPA and other academic requirements are just insane.
I figured we could just have CNBC host a debate.
Where they could ask personal, irrelevant questions?
Isn't that the whole purpose? /s
Well, on a website that hotly debates cake vs. pie...
It's not even a debate. Red velvet cake doesn't come in a pie
Because why would you dishonor a pie crust with that?
Because awesome
To be fair, only Jason Biggs comes in a pie.
Yep, totally, only him
I feel like you totally missed the joke. Please take an hour and a half to watch American Pie.
Or perhaps, he understands the joke. Knows of others that have experienced pie. Perhaps he has experienced pie.
A week late and a dollar short, but I'm just now seeing this. And I literally busted out laughing when I read it. Turkey leg for you. Fantastic!
We should have an "Epic Rap Battles from History"-type sound-off. See if Morris can spit some lyrics.
This Temple-SMU game is fun to watch; SMU just got a safety and returned the free kick for six.
45-40 Temple with 6:43 left in regulation
QB scramble by Temple saves the day
These auditions are great!
If there is enough interest (gauged by this post getting more than 10 turkey legs), i'll track Cincinnati Tommy Tuberville against these candidates too. And why not? Old Whit hire vs New Whit hires
DO IT!
I strictly said 10 turkey legs
Not a fan of Tuberville. He strikes me as a slightly less greasy Jim Tressel.
Not enough Tom Herman
Watched a little of the SMU vs Temple game....it was nuts how quickly it went from SMU to having a shot in the game (45-40), then what seemed like 2 minutes later it was 60-40
Tommy Tubes stats added. Will keep tracking in case of bowl
Herman beat Fuente, 35-34. Close game!
In a non-surprising note, 500 and 400 yards of offense. Thats what I like to see!
Everyone here knows that I've been rooting for Herman, but I was on the Fuente bandwagon and stopped watching after the 3rd quarter. I thought Fuente ran a similar offense to Loeffler, his players executed very well. I just woke up and saw that Houston won. I guess I'm back to being a Herman fan.
I'd be ecstatic with either one but I think Fuente is the safer choice. It's no secret Herman wants a big time job in Texas and he'd dart at the first opportunity to coach there.
I think you're confusing Morris for Herman. Where has it been said that Herman wants to coach in Texas? I know Morris does but I haven't heard that about Herman
Not sure but I think I've read it on the money boards. I also get that vibe from Herman. As for Morris, he's been on the record saying VT would be his dream job. I'm sure he'd love to coach a big Texas program but he did say that.
I mean a quasi-reliable source has said that but I still haven't seen that quote directly from Morris. And that quote was from 2 years ago when Morris was still just an OC anyway. Not sure if that still stands now that he's got an HC gig.
Where does this come from? Besides the only texas job that may open up anytime soon is Texas and that's at least 2 years off I'd say. Strong improved some this year and the second half of the year hasn't been as bad as the first half, however still not Texas standards. However, I think he's got some time to still show what he can do at Texas. TT, aTm, TCU and Baylor all have good coaches there with no forseeable vacancy at the HC position (save for an unexpected jump to the NFL but I think that would only be Sumlin if any). I don't think Herman waits at Houston until one of those jobs opens up. Now I don't know if he took the VT job and then 7 years later the UT job opens up and he leaves for that but then again that would be sometime down the road so not necessarily shocking. Mainly though I just wonder where people all get their information that all these young coaches want to coach a Texas team so bad that they aren't leaving until one of them opens up.
I never said this. My point was Fuente seems like a coach who would be content in Blacksburg. No need to discredit me just because you don't like what I said.
How much does 'be content in Blacksburg' weigh in your overall coaching criteria set? For me it weighs next to nothing, given he'll get a contract of X years. Beamer was an anomaly - I don't expect a good coach to remain in Blacksburg for more than 6-7 years. The new guy will take the offer from Bama.
It doesn't much at all. I just don't want to hire a coach that'll leave after a year. One more rough year for Strong the Texas job is open and you better believe Herman would be one of their Top Three.
What if we hire a great coach who, in 6-7 years, elevates the Hokies back to the top of the ACC and into the NC playoffs? Do we know that coach would necessarily jump to a new "better" position? This may be unlikely but with the right coaching staff and great recruiting, it could happen. Remember where Clemson was 7 years ago.
Since we've never had an elite recruiter our upside is still an unknown. We all hope the right guy can get us to Top 10-15 recruiting status. If he can, and if his program is competitive with Clemson and FSU, he will likely stick around as long as we can afford him. If he finds VT has some kind of intrinsic handicap that prevents us from recruiting a lot better than we do now, there are certainly programs that can recruit easier.
Depends on the coach I think. But if in six/seven years a coach leaves VT in a better position then its a win/win for both of VT and the coach. We just have to nail the hire after that.
My problem isn't with a coach leaving. It's a coach darting after a season or two and VT having to begin the whole process over again before we reap benefits. Like Kiffin and Tennessee. They're still trying to recover from that. Kiffin's not the ideal HC but he certainly made shit happen at Tennessee.
not sure if intentional ambiguity or not
Semi-intentional. He made good shit happen and bad shit happen. He had them playing good football and got them back to a bowl game. Lot more bad then good but my point doesn't really change.
And Navy dropped 55 on SMU.
To be fair, memphis's two. Years werent great either
Saturdays matchup against Memphis and Temple has lost some of its luster due to Memphis dropping its past 2, and Temple its last 2 out of 3. That being said, both teams are somehow still ranked, so this should make for a really good noon matchup.
Yes, VT also plays at noon. This is what 2 TVs are for.
I'm not sure I'll be able to bring my TV into Lane with me. It's worth a shot, I guess.
guess you'll just have to set the old VCR to record that one...
I'll catch highlights later. I've already made up my mind on the pecking order between those four coaches. Doesn't really matter though, since I'm not Whit, nor do I have any influence over him or the decision he's going to make regarding our next Head Football Coach.
