NC State gets on par with ACC, national elite with new apparel deal
Not really too much to add, as our deal hasn't been disclosed, but from what I've heard (#sauces) its about half of what NC State just signed, and its good for another few years.
A Forbes.com article from the summer highlighted the lucrative Michigan apparel deal that they signed with Nike in August. Valued at $122.32 million through 2027 ($169 million if the university accepts an additional 4-year option through 2031), the Wolverines athletic programs will receive $11.1 million annually in apparel and cash. Notre Dame's deal with Under Armour, UCLA and Louisville's deals with Adidas and Nike's contract with Tennessee follow.
NC State's deal with Adidas will pay $6.45 million annually in apparel and cash. It also includes alternate uniforms in football, men's basketball, women's basketball and baseball. That places them in the top five nationally in terms of straight-forward apparel deals -- that have been reported.

I was under the impression that VT's deal is closer to $2 million a year.

Virginia Tech's colors do not involve black.
The black uniform obsession is weird, and I want it to go away.
Actually, if I'm not mistaken, one of our registered school colors is black. Another is gray
Our original colors were black and gray, but they are not official university colors any more. There are standards the University uses for various accent colors, though:

Black is only considered a secondary color for the purpose of Web use only.

I'm down for a one-off black uni under certain circumstances (would love to see a Corps tribute that includes black/gray/Hokie stone) but it's still not an official color.
I just remembered a few years ago we still had black listed as an official color.

I'd be pretty upset if we signed a deal with Adidas. I feel like Nike is the brand for college and the brand that recruits want.
Then they need to show VT the money!
It's unacceptable that UVa's deal almost twice as much ($3.77 million vs $2 million per year, according to Teel).
I think if we decided to go away from Nike, I would hope we'd go Under Armor. I like what they've done with teams like Auburn, South Carolina, and Cincinnati. Other than their stuff with Maryland, I haven't found much to dislike from them. But the name Nike carries a lot of weight with recruits, especially basketball.
I love adidas gear. I own zero under armor articles and only one nike article, as it is VT-related. All the gear I use for athletics/exercising is adidas or [other scattered brands]

Yeah I keep seeing those Chrome logo helmets and every time I do I think how terrible they look.
And if the designs themselves weren't bad enough, the backgrounds are just....just the worst.
All of my sports related apparel is Under Armor or Nike. Adidas just doesn't appeal to me as much. I do have a pair of Adidas soccer cleats that I love to death, but those are older cleats, I hate Adidas' new soccer cleats...
Hokie dri fits (nike) fit my beer gut the best so I pick them.
Adidas is for soccer...and it should stay that way.
I would say as a soccer player that Nike has a stranglehold on that market right now. More people go with Nike over Adidas. Nike's cleats are far superior IMO in both technology/design and how they look.
Not even a little. Nike is the product of marketing and adidas is the product of greatness.
