Virginia Tech turned an iconic photo of Frank Beamer into a helmet decal.

Ordered my shirt a couple days ago. Looking forward to wearing it.

Great way to honor him. I have to be critical though. Is there no better image of him to use? I mean, his success here at tech didn't include him holding a microphone

Tyrod did it, Mikey!

MC Beamer?

Nah, they just put this out so they could do a follow up one like this:

Seriously, why not a little jab and a better image

its been in his grasp for what 4,000 days or something. Damn thing is probably with his used coffee mug shelf, growing stuff in it!

Clinching a spot in the National Championship Game was slightly more significant big picture wise than a long winning streak over a crap program. That moment solidified us as what we became and is the defining moment of the Beamer Era.

Yea, Yea I know and I agree. As I looked at the photos longer, the meaning behind it grew on me.

Also, we don't seem to have the best records with shirts that are created to commemorate field accomplishments. I'm starting to not like t-shirts...

The national championship moment wouldn't seem to pose any immediate danger...

If you weren't there that day, you probably don't understand.

This is by far the image that I will always hold of Frank Beamer. I'm just out of range to the right of the photographer, I remember having almost the exact same angle of this pic.

Love it. That's the perfect template to use for the bronze Beamer statue. Then every time Kyle Fuller visits he can high five it.

Tyrod did it Mikey, Tyrod did it!!

I say it every time but this gif never gets old.

Saying that this gif never gets old never gets old.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

The guy that designed the patch is Clark Ruhland. I don't know if Clark is a TKPer, but follow him on twitter. He also posted on his website the tought process behind the design.

Clark is the man. Definitely worth a follow for all Hokies.

I met Clark briefly over the summer. He seems like a great guy and a great Hokie.

Last night I realized he has updated his website, and for folks like me who like the history behind our school's logos, jerseys, helmets, etc, this "Helmet History" link was excellent:

VT Helmet History

Wow, someone should have been fired for the hokie track and flexing hokie helmets from 2012.. I had forgotten how bad those were. Bring back the fighting gobbler helmet though, easily my favorite alternate helmet of all time.

I'd actually love to see the 2008 White Throwback or the 2009 Maroon Throwback helmets as well. Those have a nice vintage feel, as does the Fighting Gobbler one.

God I miss the Hokie Stone helmets. I would love to see a Hokie Stone Uniform Combination.

Seeing Beamer on that podium gives me chills. I was at that BC game in 99 with my dad. When Beamer asked who all he would see in New Orleans, every single fucking person in that stadium raised their fist like that.

Same here. I was on the crossbar when the goalpost came crashing down.

I'm just out of range of this picture but I'm in the famous SI picture. It was an incredible day.

I was suspended that season and watched it at a bar in Hopewell, VA with my dad. It was cool, but I don't think it had the same affect.

I was at the game too with my family as a freshman in high school. We all went down on the field after the game and i took some grass, and some of the maroon and orange paint from the VT in the endzone. Dad planted the grass at home and it still grows today - he has taken perfect care of the isolated piece of turf for 16 years.

I was waving the VT flag which is often behind CFB in pictures from that night.

On a side note, the stadium staff took the flag prior to the GT game/non-game to start the next season. I sure wish I still had that flag.

Were there sugar cookies stuck to the flag?

Love it...I don't love that this has become our "regular" helmet now days though...gimme the maroon lid with the VT logo.

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Ever since I saw the helmet was the center piece of the artwork in the Beamer Barn, I had a feeling this helmet was going to be worn at least a few times this year. Now, I didn't expect it was going to practically replace our maroon lids.

Hopefully it's just a one year only thing, like the white Nike pro-combat jerseys we wore 5 years ago.

I'm going to nickname this sticker "Elvis Beamer".
