I don't know how many hours I've logged, but I can say I got it on Tuesday with the Target Buy 2 Get 1 Free offer and haven't touch my two other games. I got a good chunk of the main quest knocked out but then took a break to do some side missions, level up, and work on my settlement.
How far has everyone else gotten? Is anyone else building settlements outside of Sanctuary?
As usual, keep the spoilers away if you've gotten through the main mission!

Downloaded on Tuesday. Had maybe 4-5 hours to play it. Honestly doing and seeing everything right around Concord so far.
Massive game
Was tempted but I'm getting Battlefront Tuesday. I will get fallout eventually though
Just started building my settlement in Sanctuary tonight, about 12 hours in.
First time I've played a Fallout game, though I've logged hundreds of Skyrim hours. But because the Perk system is different from Skyrim, didn't recognize how to do it at first, so even though I've only leveled up to 7, a lot of my perks are lagging behind. And the crafting system is different, and didn't know at all how to build the settlement, so had to look that up.
I like to play as a Stealth type player, so haven't figured out the best strategies for this style of play yet. So I die a lot right now.
It's a lot of fun though, and easy to look up and realize you've spent 5 or 6 hours playing.
This is exactly my story.
Never played fallout, bought it on Tuesday because I kept hearing how it was just skyrim with guns.
Still learning the crafting, perks, and combat system.
Just started building up my settlement.
Stealth player trying to figure things out
This is my first Fallout as well, but I never played Skyrim. My wife STILL plays Skyrim but she is really anxious for her first semester of Law School to be over with so she can play Fallout.
Man, I sank about 450 hours into skyrim and still never beat the main quest (I got caught up in exploring, and side quests)
But from the few hours that I've put into fallout, I can feel the similarities.
I guess the fact that this game started off as a next gen port of skyrim kind of helps
I was the complete opposite in skyrim and only played the main quest. Didn't care much for the lore there but I'm really enjoying the fallout universe. So far I've just been exploring and doing side quests.
I think the lore is what pulled me into skyrim so quickly.
Interesting.
I'm usually all about post apocalyptic worlds, but I find myself having to keep pushing to get into fallout.
I'm not much on fantasy (skyrim like) but skyrim was one of the first rpgs that I really enjoyed playing. After I finished the main quest I went back and played a lot of side quests and explored but I definitely enjoy the fallout universe a little more.
Have you been doing quests in fallout or mostly exploring?
Same boat, never cared for fantasy much. But I was immediately drawn in to skyrim.
So far in fallout, I've broken off and just kind of explored.
I got kind of burnt out on exploring (that's all I did for the first 10 hours or so). Once I started doing the quests things got better. The story has a lot more interesting characters and some fun missions you get to do after you get to diamond city. I wouldn't give up until you do some of those.

Found a crashed alien spaceship and several other really cool things I highly reccomend you explore a lot
Started playing last night, didn't get as deep as I would've liked. It was a long week, had to crash. I really just explored around Sanctuary and fiddled with some of the crafting stuff. Can't wait to get some serious hours in though.
I feel like some of the new features is giving us a little insight into how the next Elder Scrolls game will be.
HEY GUYS, just now seeing this thread. What day is it? Did the Georgia Tech thing go well? Who's President? Anyway just saying hi and all, GOING BACK IN!
I got black ops for my birthday and have been playing it some but I miss the old days on he 360, no halo jumping bullcrap, no running in walls.
Free-for-alls on Rust. The good ole days.
So churning through Assassin's Creed Syndicate. Heard Fallout was buggy as hell, so I might get it after the kinks are worked out.
I've put in about 25 hours now. Haven't encountered any serious bugs just minor stuff like the dog falling off of anywhere tall that I go.
Played fallout 3 a long time ago and didn't enjoy it but I've really enjoyed this one. I've only just begun the main quest so I haven't made it very far story wise.
A tip that I learned last night: save the overdue library books. If you take them to the Boston library you'll get some tokens that let you buy one of the special magazines.
This just in:'I've started Rise of the Tomb Raider...
I'm hooked. The first ten minutes are just phenomenal
That's next for me. Never was a TR fan, but downloaded the Definitive Edition when it was the free XBone game with gold.
Absolutely freakin loved it. Will get Rise after Fallout has been exhausted, which may be awhile
That's how I got hooked on TR. Saving it for my 2 weeks off at Christmas, but really, really looking forward to it.
So far, i've been enjoying Rise of the Tomb Raider. Problem is it's competing with me right now for Legacy of the Void, but I'm about finished with that, so probably over Thanksgiving I'll pile back into Tomb Raider. But it's excellent, I've enjoyed the reboot series so far.
6 hrs in. I'm at Diamond City. I was doing some side missions, but I was getting crushed by molotov cocktails, so I just continued on with the storyline and developing my settlement.
Alright gents, you've convinced me to go down the rabbit hole.
Update: Been 4 hours and I can definitively say I'm not sleeping tonight. Shit this is addictive. And I still have no idea what I'm doing.
Just checked the game hub. It says I've played for 30 hours and eight minutes since Tuesday.
Been switching off with Metal Gear Solid V. My first MGS game, it's a lot of fun, too. Have a feeling my free time is booked for several months, since I'm also wanting to play Rise of the Tomb Raider and We Happy Few.
Sometimes i wish i could listen to the Diamond City Radio Station while im here at work
Thanks. Really enjoy Travis, he is my favorite end of the world disk jockey
Currently I've been balancing a bit between Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Starcraft II: Legacy of the Void. Then I'll probably start adding some Battlefront in. Maybe eventually I'll get to Fallout 4, but considering how much free time I don't have, plus the fact I never was able to sink the time to finish 3/ever play Vegas, I may pass for a while.
This has been a killer month for gaming.
I've been trying to decide what to do because, lets be honest, I will have to play this game one way or another. I don't have a PS4, XBOX1, or PC (married a graphic designer so we have a mac now). I still have xbox360 which I will use to replay fallout 3 and fallout new vegas while I wait until Christmas for fallout 4. I need help in deciding the best way to go:
1) Buy a PS4 (my wife likes little big planet, so there's that, but I have never owned a play station before)
2) Buy an XBOX1 (heard i can't play xbox360 games on xbox1 and i would have to pay for an online subscription if i wanted to get online for some reason, so there's that)
3) Find a way to get the game installed on a Mac. Is this possible without windows?
4) Find someone who has an xbox1 or PS4 (someone like you) and kill them. Take their game console for my own and never look back.
Please respond with home address and telephone number in case I need to
find yousend you free money. ThanksFYI XBone will have backwards compatibility soon. Don't know if it is out yet. You will be able to play all your 360 games when it is
Right now they just started the initial rollout of backwards compatibility. Not all games from 360 and older will be available, but they have about 104 of the top games available now. More will come out later, but I don't believe there will be support for every game made.
If you decide to make the jump for a new platform, there's a lot of great deals coming up for Black Friday, many you can get online. Some will include up to 4 free games, including Fallout. Which console you choose probably depends on which platform specific games you prefer. Each has their benefits. But you have to buy an online subscription regardless of console now for online multiplayer. I think only the online things like Netflix and such are available without subscription on both consoles.
I can only speak from the XBox perspective, as I have moved from XBox, to 360, now with the One. Most of my friends and my brothers back east play on XBox, so that has really driven me in that direction.
As for backwards compatibility, as of 11/12 that is part of the functionality. Microsoft is rolling out games over time that are compatible. One thing I really like is that any game that I digitally purchased on 360 I can download and play on One, which is particularly nice because my 360 is basically dead and I never got to finish GTA V. And most of the games they have added so far are older titles (Mass Effect works, for example, so glad I kept those disks), so the outlook is pretty good on that I think.
As for the online subscription, its only required if you want to play multiplayer. The Gold package is for online multiplayer, free games each month with Games with Gold, and pretty frequent sales and discounts. I think I pay $55 a year for it, and almost every game I have played in the last year with the exception of Fallout and The Witcher 3 I downloaded through the free games program, so has definetely been worth it.
Without getting the Gold package, you can still use the online features to do pretty much everything else. All of the apps like Netflix, HBO Go, ESPN, etc do not cost anything to utilize outside of whatever you are paying the third parties of course.
In short, if multiplayer is your thing, you have to get a subscription. If you could care less about that, then you wouldn't need one and still have a complete multimedia console.
I can only speak for the Xbox One as well. I have without a doubt loved every minute of my X1. I cannot recommend voice commands with Kinect enough. I love being able to say "Xbox Watch TV" and switch between a video game and a football game so quickly. I am a Gold Subscriber (it's really cheap, $30/year at certain places). So I get four free games each month now that the Xbox 360 games are included on the deal. In addition, EA Access is available for Xbox One, so for $5/month or $30/year you get a few free vault games and 10 hour demos of new games. The New Xbox One user interface is amazing as well, it's so fluid.
Console wars are kinda dumb though. Get what you'll be happy with. I'm thrilled with my Xbox because of all the additional features it provides. Oh the NFL integration is awesome as well!
If you have any other question about Xbox let me know.
With all of the black Friday deals coming up you can't go wrong with buying X1/PS4. Buying a PC would be a much larger initial investment and probably wouldn't be worth it for a casual gamer.
Both Xbox and PlayStation require online subscription now and you can get Xbox live a little cheaper online than PS plus.
I have all 3 and still prefer to play on Xbox. Xbox seems to be more competitive for multiplayer games from what I've seen (compared to PS4) and also easier to group up with friends. PS4 is better hardware if that means anything to you.
Thanks to all of you. That was all very helpful. I think I might go ahead with the Xbox1 since i'll be able to transfer over downloaded games and use some of the 360 games. Had no idea they fixed that big issue. Thanks again.
Yeah, they literally did it last week. Just in time for Black Friday shoppers I am sure.
