FoxSports' Alex Marvez reported South Carolina's assistant coaches were told to "stop pursuing commitments from high school players" in the aim of leaving them open for the next coaching staff. The report used anonymous sources and did not name who ordered the assistants to not take any pledges.

Anyone have #sauces on how VT recruiting is going with coaches not knowing who will be the HC or any position/coordinator next year? Anyone know how this usually works at schools that fire their coach or coach announces he is leaving?
Only thing I've heard is that Whit has reached out. That's been reported by most of the beat guys, one of the recruits (can't remember who) openly talked about it.
There were some #sauces that said he had mentioned it would be an offensive-minded coach.
Are you saying that Whit is actively recruiting or is just keeping tabs on these kids?
The way I read those reports, Whit wasn't recruiting, but simply reaching out to all our commits to reassure them that they're still wanted and not forgotten. He also reportedly told them that the new coach would be reaching out to them by mid-December or so, which implies that he has a plan to name the replacement in very early December.
Whit's going to hand the new HC a phone with all the commits numbers in it as soon as he steps down from the podium following the presser.

Yes.
Had me confused too. Only a small fraction of the country refers to South Carolina as USC. Most don't even know what USC-e means.
It's funny that most USC students (including myself) and alumni refer to the school as "SC," but no media outlet refers to the schools as such. But I agree, I think 90% of the nation would hear the school USC and assume the it is the school in LA.
Va Tech...
I know for a while it was in the media reports given to national broadcasters that their three options when referring to the Virginia Tech football team was "VT", "Tech", and "Virginia Tech." Hearing Va Tech makes me sick.

It's funny growing up in SC I always referred to USCe as "Carolina" as many do here in SC but after graduating from Tech I moved down to Raleigh for a few years and everyone was always super confused about the things I was saying about Carolina when I referred to them by that name. Also it evidently offended them when I would refer to USC as Carolina as opposed to UNCheat.
Most places would use "Carolina" to mean UNC.
It makes sense that in South Carolina, and maybe some SEC territory, they'd see it differently.
Try living in Colorado for a few years and everyone says they went to UNC. I immediately start talking about basketball and football and they look at me very confused. They want to talk about pot and UNC, as in University of Northern Colorado.
Thought the same thing when I first moved to Fort Collins two years ago. I was driving up I-25 and saw a billboard in the distance for "UNC Football". All I could think initially was why in the hell North Carolina was advertising their football program this far West.
Now when I mention them to people I just say UNC-Greeley. UNC is reserved for the Heels in my mind.
#recruiting
In Massachusetts it is common to say UMD when referring to UMass Dartmouth. This is still weird as hell for me even as a Massachusetts native. It might have made sense if it was the flagship UMass, but that isn't the case.
University of Succotash and Crawdads in Louisiana- got it.
USC-e(ast) and USC-w(est)
To me, there is one USC. There also happens to be a USCe. Just like UM and UMD.
Michigan?
Miami?
Urban Meyer?
Michigan = UM
Miami = DaU
Urban Meyer = Urban
and how there's only one OSU
and then tOSU
anOSU
OSU has been and always will be Oklahoma State University to me. the other can be aOSU.
Offensive line recruits Will Putnam and Pete Leota both had USCe and VT as their final two and went with the Gamecocks. Will be interesting to see if their recruitment opens back up, as well as JJ Givens (safety from Atlee HS).
This. Givens is a beast, hands down could play next fall. But, then again, wet need to know who our coaches are too.
