OT: Vice Sports piece on David Wilson

Nice piece on a beloved Hokie.

Couple of thoughts:
1) His stache game is strong
2) He is absolutely jacked

Damn I want this kid to succeed.

If you play it, they will win.

It would be incredible to see a Hokie represent the US in the olympics. Looks like I'm going to have to start following triple jump trials.

Well you missed your chance with Queen Harrison

Harrison was indeed great as she qualified for the 2008 Olympics as the youngest member of the team at only 19-years-old. Harrison finished seventh in the semifinal of the Olympic Games and became the first athlete from the Virginia Tech track and field program to compete in the Olympics

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

Didn't start following anything VT related until I started attending in 2010. Regardless, nice fun fact. I'd like to learn more about VT athletics in general pre-2010.

That stache has me believing he also kills vampires at night:

Thanks for posting this. Loved it. DW4 is my favorite hokie.

I bleed orange and maroon.

i remembered seeing DW and his ride throughout the 'burg during my time in school. good to see he's upgraded to a Porsche now and living life to its fullest. wish him the best!

Pretty amazing guy.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Even his dog is more of a baller than me.

So after he wins Gold, can he come back and be a RB coach for us? Or strength and conditioning guy?

Here lies It's a Stroman Jersey I Swear, surpassed in life by no one because he intercepted it.

I love David Wilson more than most things in life. Thanks for passing this along.

God I love this Hokie. I wish so much he wins gold. Great video.

I am not a track guy at all but it seems to me all that upper body strength would add weight and make it harder to jump farther?

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"

More muscular upper body means you can pump your arms harder (propel yourself faster) and results in better body control for technique. I'm sure his coach has him trying to hit a good balance between too heavy/strong and too weak/light

Does anyone have any news on David's Training? I'm not on social media and I cannot find any recent articles. The track and field trials start July 1st.

2016 marks
He has a best of 15.94 meters this year. The leader is at 17.76 meters. The qualifying distance to get to the trials is 16.66 meters.

Thanks for the link. Bummed he isn't going to make the trials. I wonder if he'll stick with it and try again; he hasn't been training for this very long, whereas his competition has likely been training at triple jump for years.

I wonder if he's thought about trying out for the USA bobsled team.

If you play it, they will win.

That was ridiculous watching him jump those elevated logs in the gym

You will see this game, this upset and this sign next on ESPN Sportscenter. Virginia Tech 31 Miami 7

His decision was made after a phone call with longtime Virginia Tech assistant coach Bud Foster. All Foster told him was, "We win. They don't."

He'd be an awesome olympian, aside from the sports performance aspect.
Great personality, he'd be a hit with everyone.
