Special Visits from Hokie Alumni for Beamer Sendoff

I figure this weekend will be full of ex football players coming to the game to watch Beamer coach his last game in Lane.

I know Kyle Bailey put pressure on MV7, since the Steelers are on a bye this week.

Also saw Andre Davis tweet this....

Any other visitors confirmed? Thinking downtown Saturday night may be pretty star filled.

Per Bruce Taylor's (protected) twitter: himself, Dyrell Roberts, Cody Journell, and Andrew Miller will be there.

Journell should wear glasses and a rubber nose so he's not recognized.

Still haven't forgiven him for that little night time escapade that forced him to miss the 2011 Sugar Bowl...

Go Hokies!

He grew up with/is very good friends with a co-worker of mine.

I ran into him at a party and he introduced himself. I wasn't sober so my response was "OH I know who you are", in a less than polite tone...which I instantly regretted because despite being a kicker the guy could clearly kick my ass.

He didn't seem to notice, so I'm still alive.

On a similar note he tried to scoot past the line one night at O's lounge (RIP). When he got close to the front a bit of a dick measuring contest broke out with a whole lot of flexing and words between his crew and another group of guys. It escalated for a few seconds and then someone near the back of the line yelled up to the front "Yo Cody if you punch like you kick it's gonna be a long fuckin night buddy." It got more than a few chuckles.

Hide yo' weed!!! CoJo's coming to town.

If you play it, they will win.

tariq Edwards was pretty unhappy with the fact that he had been trying to get tickets for a couple weeks and no one would get him any. he had a ticket donated by a fan. this info is per his FB. I was shocked that ANY ex player couldn't just reach out and get a sideline pass or something. but what do I know lol.

Brandon Frye had the same issue at the anOSU game. He was tailgating with the Myrtle Beach area Hokies and needed a ticket.

Why is there not a web series: "Kickin' It with Cody Journell" where he interviews current and former athletes who have done stupid things? I'd download the podcast.

The Dude Abides

They should invite everyone there who ever played for Frank in the field after the game for a photo. Bet it would be a big group.

oh man. 120 guys on the roster. 29 teams coached. Let's say the average guy on on the team 3 seasons. That's pushing 1200 guys.

Warning: this post occasionally contains strong language (which may be unsuitable for children), unusual humor (which may be unsuitable for adults), and advanced mathematics (which may be unsuitable for liberal-arts majors)..

Plus immediate families of those players- could be looking at over 2,500 total

That doesn't even include practice squad guys who never suited up for a game. Or ones who played 1 or 2 years and gave up the game. Maybe a good question for the SID?

Journell bout that thug life

A lot of current NFL guys won't be able to make it wish there was a way to have all his former players there.

At least Vick has a bye this week, hopefully he can make it down.

So do these guys all get sideline passes? If even a hundred guys show us...

-What we do is, if we need that extra push, you know what we do? -Put it up to fully dipped? -Fully dipped. Exactly. It's dork magic.

I have been given the impression you don't get sideline passes unless they have been offered to you.

The trick is to just walk down there like you own the place.

You mean someone like Bruce?

Would you tell him "no"?

We put the K in Kwality

Bruce does own this place

The Dude Abides

So let's put all this together:

1. Frank's last home game
2. Bunch of (relatively young & agile) former players show up who can't get tickets
3. ...led by Cody Journell
4. "new firm handling security this year"
5. "What do you mean, we don't have passes?"
6. ...

7.) Profit.

The trick is to just walk down there like you own the place. give back to the university/team

fify

^this!!!! Vick and Bruuuuuuuuce have given back.

"The trick is to just walk down there like you own the place."

Ha, so true. Did that once at RFK during a Redskins playoff game.
Loved looking back waving to my buddies in the stands, lol.

Of course something like that could never happen again in today's environment.
I mean...The Redskins in the playoffs?

A picture is worth a thousand words. A gif is worth a million.

In 2007 (when I was a student) I drove down for the Clemson butt whooping down in SC. An old high school friend of mine that was a student at Clemson at the time had given me the ticket so I ended up sitting with him and a bunch of his Clemson buddies. Right before the game starts he comes up with what I thought at the time was a terrible idea. He takes his collared Clemson shirt and tucks it into his shorts and commences to hop the wall onto the field when he thought no one was looking. He reaches over and grabs a broom that was leaning against the wall and begins to sweep some trash that was in the corner. About that time a cop walks over to him. I'm thinking that he's about to get tossed but the cop completely ignored his lack of credentials thus falling for the ruse and after chatting for a few minutes he just walked off. My buddy watched the entire first half standing with the Clemson team right on their sideline. Not a bad way to watch Flowers and the defense along with the special teams single handily pound the Tigers in Death Valley.

Using /s is for cowards.

NCAA rules place a limit on the number of people allowed in the team area on the sideline:

The team area shall be limited to squad members in full uniform (see Appendix D) and a maximum of 60 other individuals directly involved in the game. All persons in the team area are subject to the rules and are governed by decisions of the officials (Rule 1-1-6). The 60 individuals not in full uniform shall wear special team area credentials numbered 1 through 60. No other credential is valid for the team area.

Rule 1-2-4b, near the bottom of page FR-16 here: http://www.ncfafootball.com/resources/Rules/FR15.pdf

I'm not sure how this applies to former players who are guests on the sideline, but I would guess that the "directly involved in the game" part of the rule isn't enforced/monitored and that the team has a limited number of team area credentials that they save for former players, donors, contest winners, etc.

All former players can get access if they contact the football office.

Worst case they will put the players in the open club lounge area with chairs and tv's.

Take the athletic tour - get tidbits like this.

Former player Brandon Frye disagrees with that. He told me to my face he was turned down by the school for the anOSU game.

Well then - Whit must be a liar... Both sides cannot be true if its a different story.

so yea, maybe there was miscommunication on some part, or someone said no, when answer should have been yes, but yea

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that demand exceed supply for the OSU game. That was a hot ticket and I wonder if they ran out of space and couldn't accommodate all the former players wanting to come.

Maybe this is the case.

Fireman - Do yo know when he requested? Maybe he waited too late?

No he didn't. Because I was SHOCKED to hear this news. I said wait your a former player who went onto the NFL and you didn't get a ticket and he said

Nope

Well, the anOSU game was kind of unique. The standard pricing for normal home games didn't apply, so it could have been looked at as such. I'm sure if he wanted to go to the NC State game, he'd been taken care of.
