With Notre Dame sitting in a playoff spot, it got me thinking:
-Do they have an agreement with the ACC for sharing bowl revenue? (Will VT benefit from them making bank?)
-Does that affect or leverage them joining full time, either way?
I'll hang up and listen.

I already hate ND. IF it turns out that their winnings are not split among ACC teams (I'm not saying that's the case because I honestly don't know) that will just drive me to hate them that much more. I hope they don't make it to the playoff. And not because there's a chance VT would not benefit from their winnings. I just hate them.
My understanding is that playoff money would go to Notre Dame, but if they took an ACC's bowl game, they would split the revenue. This is from an ESPN article from 2013
That looks like a pretty reasonable deal, which makes me really surprised that ND accepted it.
Basically it says "Hey ND, you can have one of our better bowls, like the Orange Bowl or Russell Athletic Bowl if you do well, but you have to share the money. We'll share with you too, but you don't get to keep it all for yourself. BUT if you make it to the top, that's all yours." Essentially, it never forces their hand to make them have to join a conference, unfortunately.
As part of the deal, ND gets to hoard all of the NBC money. And are allowed to continue the deal with NBC. (Maybe they knew the ACC network was a unicorn...)
Bowl revenues are not shared between ND and the ACC. Its a two way street since we do not have to share our bowl money with them.See above, apparently I was wrong. My bad.
Here is the ACC Bowl Round Up
I hope ND gets left out of the playoff so that may pressure them to actually join the conference for football. Otherwise, kick the bastards out!
I agree. I hear the arguments about how they improve the ACC's SOS, how they got us an extra bowl slot or two, how we get more bowl revenue, etc. You want to improve the ACC SOS? Schedule quality OOC opponents and find a way to get VT, FSU, Clemson, UL, Miami, etc all playing each other more often. Yeah, they might have gotten us an extra spot or two in the ACC bowl line up, but if they're going to likely bump an ACC team out of a better bowl game every time just because they're ND, that's a load of bull. If they take an ACC bowl we do share their revenue. But you're also dividing the pie one more time, so the monetary returns from that will be slight.
I just don't see how we should be so grateful to have this agreement. Join all the way, or find another place to park your other sports.
To be fair, when the ND deal with the ACC was announced, the per team payout for the ACC was increased by $1 Million per team per year. It's not all a one sided deal.
Pretty sure they pocket it all if they make the playoff. And if they do, the chances of them ever joining the ACC or any other conference, in football plummets to 0%. At that point there would be no incentive whatsoever in doing so for them. If they get left out, or more importantly, if UNC beats Clemson and leaps them in the process, it's inevitable they would join.
I know the focus is on football here, but did the ACC gain some in all sports by the inclusion of Notre Dame? They have to split revenue in all other sports and they are competitive in many others. They probably brought more to the table outside of football than their take from football.
Yeah, but the ACC had been an all or nothing conference. Either you were all in, or you weren't a member. Until Notre Dame....
I personally believe n.d. is overrated.....I think Stanford will beat them thus ending their playoff dream.....however another likley scenario is that a ok state or similar team jumps them into the 4 th spot because n.d. will have no conference playoff game....missing out on the 4 th spot because of no conference championship will eventually help force them to enter the acc
