OT -Need help w/parking & getaway for Saturday, plz

I have to drive to Atlanta immediately after the game on Saturday.

What's my best parking lot for the quickest getaway?

I'll need to get onto I-81S (to I-77S to I-85S to ATL).

Thanks!

Supposedly there will be an "event" after the game for Beamer in Lane. So if you leave as soon as the game is over you might have a decent head start on a large segment of the crowd.

In my experiences unless you leave early the best way to get out quick is to park closer to south main on those backstreets. Running there bypasses traffic and you're close to 460. It can be a long walk if you get unlucky and have to park super far away, but its always a (relative) easy exit.

Well assuming you don't already have a parking pass, public lots are your only option (unless you know someone with parking passes to each lot?????) So the commuter lot I guess and then get on 460 toward the interstate via Prices Fork?

Also, I've heard there will be pre AND post game recognition for Beamer, not saying you shouldn't leave right away if you have to, but I'd hate for you to miss a once in a life time ceremony or something you weren't aware was going to happen.

South main neighborhood street parking (preston av, gracelyn ct., etc.)

This is a good recommendation. Easy walk over to Southgate to the Stadium, and easy exit to South Main Street

I know there is parking at the Golf Course near the Inn.

definitely don't park there unless you're gonna go west on 460 (which you're not). Even when though it is easy access to the Price's fork exit on 460, you still have to go back through the southgate intersection on your way out of town. Park somewhere you can get on 460 at the south main/CRC exit. I honestly think chicken hill lot or somewhere in the CRC would be great for getting out. Just head out ramble road (or whatever it's called these days) and hop on 460 on the other side of the CRC.

Oh nice, I actually will go west on 460 after the game. Where do they allow people to park? Is it around closer to the Inn, or is it down by the duck pond lot?

Going west on 460, park at the Lutheran church on Tom's creek or in my neighborhood. It takes you longer to walk there from the stadium, but you'll probably be walking faster than the people stuck in traffic trying to get out of the duck pond lot.. And as soon as you get in your car, you can shoot up tom's creek road relatively unimpeded and get right on 460 westbound.

Pro-tip: the guys on the corner of McBryde and Price's Fork charge $20 to park there. Go two houses down and turn left on Burrus and you can park street side for free.

Bonus tip on the Lutheran church: There are two lots at this church, an upper lot accessible on Toms Creek Rd and a lower lot accessible on Prices Fork Rd. If you're trying to get out of town on Toms Creek, make sure you use the upper entrance.

I think route to 81 is more important that parking lot. Even if you get a spot right next to a quick road out, you've got to counter that with the time it would take to walk to the car.

In my experience, 460 turns into a parking lot immediately after games. So even if you hightail it across campus right away and jump in the car, you're just stuck in traffic on 460 and most of the roads leading to it.

Since you're going south on 81, you do have the option to try to get on from an exit south of the 118. Either take Main Street into C-Burg, where it becomes Franklin Street, and then take that to C-burg's Main St. If you take a right, you'll be headed towards exit 114, a left would put you at the 118, which is probably still going to be a mess.

Another option that might be significantly more miles, but actually be quicker (because who would need to go the long way?) would be to keep going down Prices Fork Rd. You can either get on Peppers Ferry to come back into C-burg, or be really bold and take it all the way out to Rt 11 and maneuver around Radford, and get either onto exit 109 or 105. Or even keep going south on 11 to Dublin, and jump back on at the 100.

Can confirm that Prices' Fork to Pepper's Ferry to Route 11 to I-81 via Dublin is a pretty drive that will get you around the riff raff.

I miss SWVA...

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Actually, according to VTFencer's Google Map, the route through Radford and Dublin is a few miles shorter. I take that route every time and never knew it was actually shorter. I just like route because it avoids all the congestion.

I was thinking the same thing. Go to Radford and get on 81 there

the parking garage at Kent square might cost a few bucks, but I've never had trouble getting out to 460 (and a few of those games I've had to drive back to Ohio like you).

The garage was full for OSU this year but even parking at the old Middle School wasn't enough to get me out of that traffic

pretty sure the OP is trying to get to Atlanta, not Ohio

when you get to I-77, go south

Kent Square is super convenient, but when we left the Duke game it took us an hour to get into Cburg from there. The lights on Main St. are very poorly timed and traffic just builds up forever. Might stand a chance if you don't stick around for postgame, but for a normal game this can be a nightmare.

"Exit light..."

I park at kent sq garage and then take parallel rounds to main until the Harris Teeter plaza

It's a little bit of a walk, but we always get out super fast after the games when we park at the airport.

We tailgate in the airport RV lot. It is about a 15 minute (just about .3 miles) not rushed walk from the South end zone. Airport road does stack up but it has quick access to 460 and Business 460. Car parking is either $20 or $25. I can't remember.

I leave via southbound I-81 as well. I always park at the Lutheran Church at the corner of Prices Fork and Toms Creek, just across from the university's public lots. (They're $10 cheaper than on-campus public parking, and right across the street. Added bonus, you can leave directly on Toms Creek Rd, which is nowhere near as congested as Prices Fork.) It's pretty quick to take Toms Creek Rd out to 460 Eastbound and then get off at Prices Fork headed toward Radford. (It seems like a roundabout way to go, but it avoids the massive congestion on Prices Fork between campus and 460) Take Prices Fork Rd all the way to the end and hang a right on Peppers Ferry Road headed into Fairlawn, where you can go south on 11 (Right at the traffic light at Sheetz). Once in Dublin, you head south on Rt 100 (exit ramp about 1/4 mile past Wade's) and then hop on I-81 a couple miles later at Exit 98. This doesn't sound like it should be a quicker route, but it's always worked well for me and avoids all the really congested areas on Prices Fork and 460 and gets me home quicker.

Edit: There are two lots at this church. If you're going to try this, be sure to use the upper entrance on Toms Creek Road, not the one on Prices Fork. Getting out of the lower lot is bound to be a lot more troublesome.

I'll add my own plea on here. Headed SE after the game towards Myrtle Beach. Any parking suggestions, coming up from Greensboro Sat morning.

My advice above should be pertinent to you as well. You'll still want to get to I-81 south and then I-77, just like the OP. Oddly enough, I'm heading to Myrtle Beach Sunday morning and, if I recall previous conversations from before the season, I'll be sitting just a few yards to your left at the game too.

I bought tickets off a fellow TKPer a week and a half prior to the press conference. I'm sitting closer to the SEZ and farther down this time. Where are you headed to in Myrtle Beach?

We're going to Surfside Beach (Ocean Lakes) for the holiday week. We get together with my wife's extended family and rent a beach house down there this time every year. Any suggestions for good places to catch the UVa game while I'm down that way?

Do you want to be around other Hokies or just a sports bar? I live just south of Surfside in Murrells Inlet.

Either one works. If there's a local Alumni Association or Hokie Club chapter that's having a UVa game get-together, that would be pretty cool. Otherwise, recommendations for a good sports bar would come in handy. Thanks.
In years past, I've gone to the Brick House in Surfside (for obvious reasons) but I'm open to other options if there are better ones out there.

So the "Grand Strand Hokie Club/Alumni group" does have watch parties although I'm not sure how many will show for this one, a few high rollers may go to the LOLUVA game.

But from Surfaide your looking at a 30 minute drive at least. If that doesn't sound good to you I've found these places to be good food and decent TV watching. Kings Street grille in Murrells Inlet, Dead Dog Murrells Inlet, Carolina Tabern near Inlet Square mall, Dagwoods Deli in Surfside. Good luck and enjoy the trip down although I think it's supposed to get cold.

Are you planning on tailgating (with your car) or not? If not, I'd park in a neighborhood behind lane. Just walk a mile to your car after the game, and drive.

If you can't or can get a good parking spot, you should head out of Blacksburg on Prices Fork towards Fairlawn and Dublin. That's always been the quickest way to get out for me and it leads to I-81 South onramp at exit 98. Way faster than going all the way down 460 traffic or not.

Thanks for all the help, folks!

Just hang around and be late. Post-game rails are the best and are a close second only to pre-game rails.

85 is a terrible, terrible road. I don't think I've ever gone this way, but maybe consider 81 to 75. I usually go 95 to 20, but really there's no good way to get to Atlanta
