I know it might not be likely with a new coaching staff coming in but I'd like to see Brewer stick around as a GA if he wants it. His on field career hasn't panned out with injuries and such but he definitely gets what it means to be a Hokie.

Unless his high school coach is on the coaching staff...

But I'm all in on the Brewer as GA. I'd love to see him work his way up through the coaching ranks.

If the next coach is Chad Morris, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see him on staff next season.

Classy article. Hats off to Brew.

He WILL be a great coach someday.

Man. That was really well written. Great gesture from Brewer too. Not much more I can say

I like this TX kid a lot! Hope to see him back in the Burg someday.

@AMB4VT

Excellent. I have no other words. Excellent.

I've always liked Brewer, he might not be the biggest or most gifted we've ever had, but damn this dude gets it. Literally one of the toughest SOB's I've ever seen play college football. All of my buddies would rag on him last year and I just kept saying how most guys would have laid down after the hits he took. Brewer is and always will be a Hokie, but also one of my favorites!

My thoughts exactly. There wasn't one game where I didn't feel like he gave it everything he had.

I mean there were hits last year where I thought there was no way possible he was getting back up or returning to the game, the UVA game in particular. Will, determination, heart, and toughness.

and leadership. Probably the best thing about Brewer is his leadership.

I agree completely. He hasn't been in the Burg as long as most, but he's definitely endeared himself to the fans. Great character. I'll miss that guy. I do hope he gets into coaching. Maybe when Herman is ready to move on in 10 years or so we'll give Brewer a shot?

I love the dude. I was probably the most mad I have been over a sporting event in years when after he got injured in the first game, an OSU fan made a vine making fun of him getting injured and it went viral all across social media.

Most any other person probably would have cracked if they saw that they were being made fun around the country on social media, but not Brewer, all he did was work his ass off to get back weeks before he was supposed too and completely ignored the whole situation. He, like Frank, is one special person.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

I thought Bryan Randall would always be my "Guy". You know the "guy". Not the biggest, strongest, fastest, or the best. But you know what you got and what he is gonna give. 100%. On and off the field. And be stand - up all the way.
I think Brewer may share that distinction.

Tweedy can run like a dadgum antelope or whatever. I like to use scalded dog. Do antelopes lumber? Cheetah, OK. He runs like a cheetah. He's fast. - Bud Foster

Seconded.

Michael Brewer will forever be a Hokie!

Go Hokies!

Let's not forget he catches rattlesnakes too.

Well said Brewer! College football needs more coaches like Frank Beamer indeed. I'm glad I met the man in person. Let's hope the next coach incorporated some of Beamer's qualities.

Hey palsy!

I'm still trying to figure out if this is "pahl-sy", like a friend, or "pawl-sy", like cerebral...

Net Row Net Row Tweet Tweet Ho!

It makes more sense that it would be "pl-sy" (pl is the pronunciation of pal)

EDIT: I added in one of those weird ae combo letters you see in pronunciation guides but apparently it didn't post. Just imagine there's one of them in there between the "p" and the "l"

This is correct. It's Beamer's way of saying "pal." Not sure where it comes from, but it is what it is.

Great Article by Brewer. I wonder if he's pushing for VT to hire Morris, or at least spoken to Whit about what it's like to play for him.

The connection between Morris and VT is pretty strong. I don't know why the media hasn't run with that story yet. Instead, they run with RichRod and Fuente, where the connection is not nearly as strong.

🦃 🦃 🦃

RichRod is polarizing and Fuente is the enigmatic "under-the-radar-name-everyone's-heard-about" and they both get clicks and comments which equals a successful story to most writers/editors. Simple as that.

And yes, this is going to probably cycle through many of the candidates the longer our search lasts.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

Impressive writing. The kid. Just. Gets. It.

Glory is Forever, Let's Go Hokies!!

Great article - not much else to say.

Thanks for linking Joe. Brewer is a great team player and leader. Well-spoken and competitive as all-get-out. I really hope the guys can "out punt their coverage" and play lights out Saturday. What a great gift that would be to the man.

If it ain't orange, it better be maroon...and if it ain't maroon, it better be soon!

Shoot that was very well written! I think Brew might have a future in sports media.

"The Big Ten is always using excuses to cancel games with us. First Wisconsin. Then Wisconsin. After that, Wisconsin. The subsequent cancellation with Wisconsin comes to mind too. Now Penn State. What's next? Wisconsin?" -HorseOnATreadmill

Wait a minute - I'm in a hotel room. Who the hell is cutting onions in a hotel hallway?

Never mind, I blame the bourbon. And this horrible ECU - UCF game. But seriously, WTF onions?

M. Brewer is a class act just like Beamer, Most would say i am nuts due to his short tenure at Tech, But Brewer is a great example to what Va tech Football is all about. For those who have played the sport or have knowledge of what its like to coach the sport at any level,, its very rare you run into people like Frank or Brewer who "Get it" and despite negative input,,, project positive energy. Dudes a MAN ...

Dudes a MAN DUDE

FTFY

Slightly erratic, mostly sane, always a Hokie.

Great article, great insite,, passion and well written. I agree with a number of previous comments, Brewer has a future in coaching. I hope he can get a jump start on that st VT. Thanks, Michael!

The older I get, the better I was...Go Hokies!!!

This put tears in my eyes. Anybody that can inspire this type of loyalty and make this kind of life altering impression on a person is the epitome of a leader. Regardless of how I feel about the last several seasons our program will not be better for losing a man of this caliber and I am proud to call myself a fan during his tenure. Thanks, Coach.

Regardless of W-L record, Brewer will go down as one of my favorite Hokies.

If you play it, they will win.

uhaaerrmmmm, darn dust clouds...

My newly 6 week old wife is mad because my allergies are acting up reading these #Beamisms more than on our wedding day...

Frank youll never read this, but its not just about the W's its about the way you won them, thank you for giving us a program we could be proud of.

she knew what she was getting into. And if she didn't, she should have done her research better...(it's funny cause you're a market research analyst)

yep, cried when I read it last night, and cried when I read it again this morning

"We were at the pinnacle, and we did it for years," Foster says. He pauses, nods, takes a deep breath. "And I did it with the best guy in the business."

Thank you for sharing, that was a great article. I agree with everyone I hope Brewer coaches someday because he just gets it and wants to do things the right way, just like Beamer. An incredible tribute to someone who clearly changed so many lives.

Ha, Frank was asking about his siblings the first time they met.

"So...got any little brothers? What's their 40 time?"
