Virginia Tech commit Andrew Ford looks like he belongs in this field. He's exceptionally accurate and has added size to his frame. Also, while it isn't evident in this setting, many are starting to praise his athleticism and mobility. The Hokies may have gotten a steal here. I know that he is pretty much a lock to accept coaching and dedicate himself to developing. Many times that's half the battle. Ford will join Stanford commit Keller Chryst and Florida commit Will Grier on Team Alpha Pro during the 7-on-7 competition.
And here's an interview with "Hokie for Life" Ford, again courtesy of 247Sports...

Can't wait to see what he's going to accomplish
This may be premature, but I have the feeling Ford may become the Andrew Luck for the Hokies in football. He has the smart, the physical tools, and desire to be tutored by one of the best quarterback coaches in the business. If he continues to bulk up a bit, I think he may be the next legendary quarterback in Hokies' lores since Tyrod.
Andrew Luck? Yes, it's a little premature to say that Ford will be comparable to one of the best college quarterbacks of our generation.
According to Rivals.com database, Luck was rated a 4 stars, 6'4" and 215 lbs with a 4.7 40. Not too bad.
I am really excited where we will be in 2-3 years. If we can put the pieces together and have a top 10 ranked defense (what is the norm here) and even get to just a top 25 offense I think that will be when we start really getting to be elite.
Heck we might even win the big game?!
I agree about the excitement but I think we need to be careful anointing him as an all time great QB. A lot can happen between now and then.
Btw welcome to TKP!
Thanks very much appreciated. I merely make my assessment off of potential. Still think many pieces have to come together for it all to work out
You mean we can't limit the excitement to just him right. Bucky and Ford coached by Leoffler. I'm sold. Next few years of Quarterback play for us are going to be solid. Going to go ahead and pour some Koolaid for me and my kids. We're going to set up a stand right here on TKP. Anyone thirsty, come try a glass, all paid for by Scott Leoffler.
Accidently downvote. I'm terrible for that on my phone. Sorry
I got you bro
As long as we have at least one solid QB commit per class, we're doing alright.
It doesn't matter how great he is if we don't have an OL or a running game. I am very excited to get this kid but I have 0 expectations until we get a more solid foothold in the trenches.
Thank you ...imagine if tyrod had a line....Iam pretty much sure we would have been in a mix for nc game....no joke!!
That should have been in 2011 but his redshirt was burned twice early on. Logan did very well in 2011, Tyrod would have done great. Just think about it for a minute...Tyrod, David Wilson, Danny Coale, and Boykin would have been a great offensive group. Who knows, Ryan Williams or Darren Evans may have even stuck around for that year if Tyrod was here and then where would we be? David Wilson most likely wouldn't have had the crazy year he had and could have stayed another year. I also believe that with Tyrod, we wouldn't have lost to Clemson both times.
At least Evans commented (when he left) that the following year, "it won't be the same not taking handoffs from Ty".
I'm not 100% sure that Tyrod staying would've convinced Evans or Williams to stay longer.
- Evans has a kid, which was a big factor in him turning pro early.
- Ryan got injured and probably did not want to risk another year in college not getting paid and potentially getting injured again. If you're a projected 1st/2nd rounder, you go pro.
But Tyrod and Wilson in the same backfield...one can only dream of what they could've accomplished.
Tyrod's line was better than they were given credit for (with the exception of vs Stanford and Nick Marshman in general.) The problem with Tyrod and Glennon was that they NEVER threw in rhythm. 1, 2, 3 THROW. 1,2,3,4,5 THROW. It never happened. I think that was reflective of how poorly they were coached, given how much better Tyrod has thrown in rhythm in his limited appearances with the Ravens. Yes, the line had some trouble, but they were a very good run blocking line, and they were good enough that there would have been fewer sacks if the QB's got rid of the ball on time.
I think our QB play has, in general, masked bad OL coaching for some time. That being said, I agree, Tyrod was missing out on some good QB instruction as well.
The mobile QB was the crutch for bad VT offensive coaching, both gameplanning and development. How many Tyrod 8 yd scrambles on 3rd and 6 hid systemic flaws?
Or the UVA game his freshman year. Our goal line offense was so terrible, Tyrod would come in and scramble for TD's. Ugh.
I think it also has to do with some ...questionable... passing game planning.
He's also doing some recruiting for us:

CJ Reavis too
Ford didn't make the cut for final 11. For what it's worth, neither did Cornwell (Park did however). Regardless, I'm glad we were even represented.
Edit:
Where did you see this? Haven't seen this anywhere.
This isn't final rankings....first rankings...more to come in next 48 hrs according to the next tweet. I think the camp runs through the entire week. But I agree, it is interesting that Cornwell didn't make the top 11 on first ranking.
Yes, they said Cornwell has some trouble with being very coordinated. Interesting that Park was the better guy (still they talked about a 10% chance of a boneheaded play). To me, the most exciting part was seeing a VT QB commit being praised for his accuracy. Not size, not mobility, not arm strength, but accuracy. I will take it any day.
Accurate, very smart, articulate... score ;-)
Can a guy hope that Ford may turn out to be a bigger, more athletic Kellen Moore? Quick decisions and accurate, but with the ability to wrinkle in some read-option...? I'm really excited about the possibilities.
I've said it once, and I'll say it again. I'll take a Kellen Moore twin. Chills just thinking about it.
i'm sure heder's got eligibility, somebody holler at lefty
"...what'd Ty shoot on the back nine? mmm-I don't believe it!"
Upvote for the Gardocki reference in your profile
