Fastest Hokies

Hokiesports.com has football media guides that list strength and speed records at each position.

http://www.hokiesports.com/football/mediaguide.html

There are many, many different strength records but the only category for speed is the 40 time.

Before you look it up, take a guess at who were the fastest Hokies at each position. Also, what is your guess at what is and who has the all time fastest 40 time?

I heard that David Wilson guy is pretty fast, but i wouldnt be surprised if Eddie Royal or D Hall was somewhere in there?

@VTimHokie85

Without looking, I know DHall and Marcus Vick had sub 4.3 40s

I'm gonna guess Deangelo or Kevin Jones

Rip his freaking head off!

I feel like I'm not giving anything away by saying this because nobody was going to guess him. But I definitely did not think Lee Suggs would be top 10 on that list.

Rip his freaking head off!

Yah, I found the list and Suggs surprised me as well.

I also was not aware that #2 on the list posted that time. I knew he was football fast but didn't realize he was the 2nd fastest at VT ever.

If I remember correctly, Suggs was the AAA State 100 champ his senior year at William Flemming in Roanoke.

Have to guess D Hall

Marcus Vick, d hall, macho Harris?

I'm going to guess David Wilson.. but I'm probably wrong

My guesses would have been Mike Vick for fastest QB, DHall for fastest DB, Wilson for fastest RB, and and Royal for fastest receiver. I'm amazed by the speed of some of those linemen on both side of the ball though.

I think Clowney may have been as fast as Royal at WR. The rest sound right to me, unless Tony Gregory was that fast too. A Vick for QB. I can't think of anyone who was faster than DHall at DB, and I think he was fastest.

I looked at the program and couldn't find the answer, though. I suppose it will remain a mystery.

It's around page 100 or something where they list all of the Super Iron Hokies and other weight room records.

They have all the positional records posted on the wall in the weight room in Merriman. If I remember right from the summers I worked out in there, D. Hall was the fastest at like a 4.18 or something.

That's cause everybody be sleeping on Suggs...he was and is still my favorite hokie on offense...gotta give props to Ben Taylor on defense

Odd that this is a topic, since I'm coming out with a "Where are they now?" story on Keith Burnell in tomorrow's paper. Burnell broke Damien Russell's school record in 2002, running a hand-timed 4.21.

D-Hall ran a 4.15 in 2003. (The inflation on those times is ridiculous, by the way.) I think that still stands up as the school record.

I love that AB is on this site, and actually comments. Solidifies this being the best damn Hokies site on the internet.

Better watch out, AB is over 300 turkey legs already...I hear he's gunning for you.

I think this list at this link is out of date. The media guide shows some top 10 changes happened in 2011. Notable was Wang outlifting big bro in the push jerk.

We must have electronic timing equipment somewhere in the athletic department, right? Why don't they just use that?

because the times wouldnt be as fast?

Because they'd be accurate?

mmm hmm

They do the timing on the indoor track. I think they are legit. When they do timing they each run three times. It is track speed not football speed (is there a difference?). It serves as a reference for relative speed.

I'm not too sure about David Wilson. He certainly looks fast on tape but his best 100m time was only 11.01. That's definitely not slow, but I would expect guys in the "fastest ever" conversation to be around 10.5 or better.

Not the bagman VT deserves, but the bagman VT needs right now.

billdozervt posted a good example of how fast David Wilson is on Tape a couple years ago:

Who do you think from our current roster can crack the top ten? I think Knowles has a shot, maybe Coleman.

Those two, possibly Kendal Fuller when he gets here, Tony Gregory is also a possibility.

Knowles, I think. Probably the fastest guy on the roster, right?

Yea, Knowles is already supposedly at a 4.28 (again hand timed) which has him tied for 10th

My guess of Jim Druckenmiller and Greg Boone was WAY off...

I remember Drakeford returning kicks while I was down there, and the talks of his sub 4.3.
Imagine what time he would have turned in if timed similar to the rest of the guys post-Vick...
