Minus franks last season we were in the same predicament last year except now they don't have the horses on their DL they had last year, our wr's are a season better and ford is on track to break the td in a season by a wr record. Our rb is better than last year and has the chance to go over a thousand yards this game. I think this game lines up well for us plus two of there better players on defense are out I believe for this game. I think a heavy dose of mcmillian gets the win today.
They are better at QB this year. This rivalry always goes to the better QB. Will Brewer outplay Johns today?
I would call QB a wash. Sure Johns is okay, but he leads the country in picks. Get pressure on him and he folds like your typical UVA QB.
unfortunately, we're looking at a gimped Brewer or Motley at QB. I really don't want a gimped Brewer because a bad ankle means less mobile in the pocket and typically weaker throws (can't plant the same way). Unfortunately, I'm not overly confident in Motley under center, either.
Last year Brewer beat UVA throwing the ball with a jacked up throwing shoulder. Give me the Brew Crew in this game.

I'll be so happy if with the new coaching staff we can run an offense that doesn't mean line up, burn clock, stand up an look to the sideline for agonizing seconds for the "real" play call, then get the ball snapped just ahead of the clock allowing the D an easy opportunity to anticipate the snap.
What is the reason for that. Call a play, let the coaches see how the defense is lined up, then change the play?
That's my understanding. For all the talk about Brewer being a "coach on the field", you'd think you'd give him a set of plays to work with and let him call the play at least, instead of just burning the play clock to zero waiting on the sideline to get the call in.
That said, I think it's obvious at this point they don't really trust Brewer to see the D all that well. That's one reason to like what Lawson brrings -- in the few snaps he took, he seemed to identify where to go with the ball well, even if his mechanics weren't up to snuff.
I have no problem with changing a play if you have a mismatch, but seems like there must be a quicker way to do so

He's put together every single bad judgement that I've been able to give him a pass for previously because you could see his system would work, and in spurts it did work.

At some point, you have to admit to yourself as a coach that they play isn't going to work for this offense, and choose plays that do. You know, like the short passing game. Which with 2 minutes and 50 yards to go, is kindof the perfect O to run, along with some TM runs.
Agreed. Loeffler is just flat out bad, and that's just the way it is. The OL is playing poorly in pass pro, but it's his job as OC to minimize that liability and call plays that can offset it. We're getting Brewer (who doesn't have great pocket awareness anyway) absolutely killed out there. Just run the ball. We almost need to put Motley or Lawson in for a drive or two and get a running threat at the QB position to open up the passing game.
But I doubt we see any significant adjustment. Loeffler and the rest of the O assistants can't be gone fast enough.

Watching the game in AL with my in-laws who are huge Bama fans. They are being nice and rooting for the Hokies, as they wait for the Iron Bowl to start later today.
