I know some people hate phil steele, but I enjoy his work. It's nice to see someone use tangible numbers instead of the 'eye test.'

who hates phil steele? he's flippin awesome, i'd challenge someone to show me another analyst who puts the kind of work and research into his stuff that he does. he is the antithesis of a lot of the crap we see passed off as sports journalism. anyways, playing the penises in the peach would be a successful season in my eyes. plus we'd complete the carolina cycle having played all four directions in one year.
Honestly, BleacherReport has been very optimistic about our season too, and they've done a good deal of research to back it up
Seems like half of what they throw up is pure garbage. Saw something yesterday about biggest win and most disappointing loss for each BCS team, and apparently our most disappointing loss was when we were humiliated by Florida State in the 2000 Sugar Bowl, a game where we were blown out and never had a chance to win.
Found the article:

NO MORE BLEACHER REPORT, NO MORE HEATHER DINICH, FOR ALL THAT IS GOOD AND HOLY.
Our loss to FSU in our ONLY National Championship appearance is most definitely our most disappointing loss in school history.
Also, we were leading that game for 3 quarters; we had a chance to win.
Stupid Warrick...
If I remember correctly, we were leading that game after three quarters. I believe FSU lead the whole game until then.
yeah fsu sort of dominated the first half but mike and the boys came stormin back to take the lead after 3, and then fsu took back over. ahh well
While I can understand that argument fully, and it's definitely in my top 2, the loss to Harrisonburg-team-that-will-not-be-named left me with a lingering pain in my gut for quite some time. At least against FSU we were the underdog, not the favorite by 5 touchdowns.
And that wasn't my gripe with the piece, I wouldn't have faulted them at all if they had actually even looked at a box score before writing the piece. The fact that we had the lead at the start of the 4th quarter means two things:
(1) We were not blown out
(2) We definitely had a good chance to win
which run counter to the main points in the article.
+1 Blue Collar Hokie, I totally agree with you, but I think he got a lot of flack (especially from ACC and SEC fans) for picking FSU to win it all last year. Since then, every time I say "Phil Steele said ______________," I'm admonished. "You listen to Phil Steele? He picked FSU to win it all last year."
If it's pulled off, can it be considered a "Carolina Slam"?
I see his reasoning for putting VT in the Chick-Fil-A bowl over Clemson, since Clemson was in it last year. But, if Clemson ends up the ACC champ, I'm sure they'd select FSU over VT. So, VT better win the ACCCG anyways.
I don't think I'm alone in thinking FSU will have less wins than us this season. I think we're in for a big letdown from them.
Are they highly ranked in the preseason? I think Miami is going to lay half a hundred on them. Still might lose, though.
Jameis Winston looked extremely impressive in their spring game. Kid is a total athlete. Also plays outfield on the baseball team. Might struggle a bit this season, but I'm nervous to watch him develop over the next few years.
Yea, I was assuming if VT and FSU had similar records, they would choose FSU, considering VT is in the Chick-fil-a kickoff. Likewise, I think UNC would get selected over VT, if it's a close. #Politics
steele is really high on us this year, i feel like hes the only one that has any confidence in us. if we got to the chic fil a bowl i think thatd be a great turn around from last year, i really hope we can actually do it
If I recall, we had good numbers in NCAA 2014. So it's Steele and EASports...
Sorry, had some beers, but still think its valid...
I'm pretty sure he was high on us last year too. He's always liked us, I try to catch his segment every friday on the Bill King show on Sirius College sports station.
