Really my dad was on a minesweeper in North Vietnam AFTER the Paris peace accords. It caught fire IN Vietnamese Waters,you know how big your balls have to be to ride in a wooden ship in the modern age of warfare?
At the end of the day they are a key platform, and one that is fortunately looking to be heavily augmented by drones in the coming years to help remove humans from the equation.
But the fact remains far and away one of the most common threats at every NROTC unit including Tech's is that if you fuck up bad enough your posting will be to a MCM out of Djibouti, basically the most under appreciated job on some of the least accommodating ships in the Navy, in the worst location to be found.
I hear that, my dad did brown water riverine patrols in Vietnam and then minesweeper after. They didn't have enough qualified shallow water guys. He then spent the next 29 years on land working his way up to CW04.

Army Navy will be moved FOR NOTHING!! If Navy had beaten ND and won all their games this season even the final playoff committee meeting would have been pushed back, also pushing almost every bowl announcement back also.
Oh god, the first thought that ran through my head is that next uniforms will looks like Nascar racing machines and we'll be seeing something such as "Virginia Tech First Third Bank of Narrows" on helmets. (Is there is a First Third Bank of Narrows?)
