With ties to Lefty, could this mean Scotty gets another chance as a Offensive coordinator?

Better question, with Jackson coming in, Lawson as a true Sophomore, and Motley as a Senior, does Chris Durkin transfer to play under his uncle? I know Chris and his family love Virginia Tech, but he might have a shot to play at Maryland and he could possibly graduate by this Summer if he works hard.
This is the first thing that I thought after just reading the headline. The Durkin transfer is probably the next logical step here.
UNLESS... His development at TE is coming along. Fuente is going to need TE's next year in his offense.
This is very true. If he's coming along at TE, he might just stick around since Malleck is graduating, but we still have some good depth there. If Bucky leaves, that changes, but right now there's Chris Cunningham (Fr.), Xavier Burke (Fr.), and Kalvin Cline (r-So.) plus Bucky.
looks good for Haskins too
he could possibly graduate by this Summer if he works hard.
I thought he was a redshirt freshman? That's really impressive he has that many credits already.
It's theoretically possible. Not necessarily likely, but still possible. I was thinking of him as a r-So when I initially said that though. Could also just transfer, sit the year and have 2 years left to play.
Or will Lefty go under Durkin and provide a landing spot for Jackson.
Or does Durkin's Michigan connection and possible hiring of Lefty mean that they could flip Jackson?
That is the first thought that came to my mind as well. Looking at Jackson's twitter posts though, he seems happy with CJF being the new big whistle.
I thought JJ is already enrolling in January
He has signed the papers for early enrollment but it is non-binding. If he wants to flip, he could.
I hope Lefty gets another shot.
Unfortunate since he is a stellar recruiter. Will be hard to bring in guys from Maryland with Franklin tearing it up as well
I don't think Chris Durkin leaves. There is so much instability at the QB position in terms of who can play and who we think can play but have no evidence of it. With as much inverted veer and screen stuff that Fuente likes to run, perhaps he wants Durkin back at QB. I may be wrong. It is hard to tell at this point.
I agree with French on his point and to add to it, I'm not sure that Chris Durkin goes to UMD and becomes their starting QB. Being in this area, there's a lot of talk of local QBs from the area wanting to attend UMD so that would mean more competition for Durkin at UMD.
Turtles+Durkin during the Thanksgiving Holiday?

Is that Chris Durkin's uncle? MD may have found a new coach and a new QB.
Who
Durkin is a weight room beast, and has put in the hours to get some time this year. Other than some garbage time this year, he will be getting a look this spring, since QB will be wide open. If he's worked out at TE, he could potentially stay and play there, too. He's got options, I wouldn't count him on transferring just yet.
MD sucks and I hate them. I hope Durkin succeeds, but it depends on the Durkin and the school he's associated with
This hire makes the least amount of sense out of any so far. Durkin is a defensive guy, in the BIG Ten East there is no way that Maryland can recruit the players they need in a traditional Big scheme to beat PSU, MSU, Michigan and anOSU. Maryland needs to go air raid style. Put up bunches of points and play a style of game most BIG teams can't keep up with.
Who says he won't hire an OC that wants a high-powered offense? "Defensive guy" doesn't necessarily mean anything for the system he will run, just that he has particular experience on a certain side of the ball.
Yet as Whit pointed out so well the successful teams are mostly lead by offensive minded coaches these days.
There is an emphasis on offense in today's game, yes. VT needs a better offense to complement a traditionally stout defense. Whit knows you've got to put points on the board to win and draw fans. True enough. I wouldn't necessarily call Alabama a consistent offensive powerhouse, but their defense has been top-notch for many years. So if someone hired Saban away from Bama, would you dismiss the hire because he's defensive-minded? Their offense has generally been what ours wishes to be; ball-control, run-heavy, and powerful. You don't have to go air raid to be successful. You just need to have a vision and scheme that can put points up.
To me a guy who has been a successful head coach will always get a pass for the first new job he takes, someone who has never been a head coach (outside of one game) has a lot of questions behind it. Saban also doesn't do so well when facing high powered offenses. Some times that defensive mind hurts Bama also.
He's a really good coach. Those are never bad hires.
Plenty of great coaches have failed in certain situations.
That's true, but you'll never know until you try them out.
Maryland has recruited extremely heavily on the offensive side of the ball this year. It will be interesting to see who Durkin hires as OC. It feels like a strange fit on the surface but I think what will make or break the move is what type of offense they try to run.
You guys need to check out DJ Durkin's sets on Soundcloud - hot stuff. Oh, wait, nevermind...
