The Hoos almost landed Richt 15 years ago (http://www.roanoke.com/sports/colleges/uva/could-second-time-be-charm-fo...), and it seems UVA is hot after him again.
Multiple sources have told @Newsplex that Mark Richt is in town now to interview for #UVA football job— Damon Dillman (@DamonDillman) December 2, 2015
Part of story I just filed: In talking to those who know Richt, they'd still be surprised if he coached in 2016. If he does, UVA most likely— Travis Haney (@TravHaneyESPN) December 2, 2015

Would make the rivalry more interesting, at least.
Hmm interesting... still not a football school though. I'm not worried. Fuente (offensive minded) Foster (defensive coordinator/god) vs. Richt (
DefensiveOffensive minded) would make the rivalry a little more interesting. Does he know how to use timeouts?I thought Richt was offensive minded?
He is. Terrific former offensive coordinator and quarterback guru.
Terrific sounds odd when he just got fired... unless this is a Les Miles situation
As a big Richt supporter and one who thinks that he's largely under-appreciated, I think he's terrific. I can understand why Georgia fired him, but it's definitely a Les Miles-type of situation.
not sure of the protocol here. But I don't think I can like Richt anymore if he does this.
I would dislike this because he is a great coach and a better person. He deserves a better school than UVa.
If true, he just missed out on the easiest job of his life. It would have been like a vacation for a guy like him to take over at Va. Hire a few decent coaches and put his feet up on his desk and daydream and he'd likely do better than Timecop did. Then, when rejuvenated, he could go back to coaching a real football team.
Wasn't that pretty much Spurrier's gameplan at USCe? It worked for a couple years before unraveling catastrophically.
I like how he said FWIW before and after
no doubt
that legitimizes it
no doubt
IMO:
You are correct.
IMO.
I would like to say to UVA:
I wonder how these interviews go. I mean, what these guys are capable of is on open display for the most part with established coaches like Richt. What do they discuss in the interview that isn't handled through the agents?
Well at UVA, I imagine the list of questions are:
1. Do you like Thomas Jefferson?
2.
DoDid you like Zima?3. Do you know how to call a timeout?
If the answer is Yes to all three, then they offer on the spot.
They probably offer on the spot if you answer yes to any two of those.
I figure they'd accidently get some non-hoo material if they accepted a yes to just the first one.
Can you call for a fake punt on 4th and 16 at midfield in a close game against our big brother rival?
And can you make that a run by a slow footed punter - rather than a play that might actually have a chance of working - so it looks like a show from Animal Planet?
If so, you're our man.
Bud Foster.
And here we are, sitting pretty with our #1 choice and arguably best option on the market.
Its a great opportunity for him. They'll pay him very well, expect very little, and if he wins 8 games a year at UVA for the next 5-7 years, they will induct him into their hall of fame and erect a statue.
At this point they may do that any way as long as he beats VT at least once in the next decade.
Then I guess that means no statue for him.
I'll just have to add this to the list of reasons I hate UVa.
How funny would it be if he choose loluva over da U?
I won't be laughing about it.
I'll assume the threw money at the problem, because why else would someone do a foolish thing like that?
less pressure at UVA. Charlottesville is much less of a "sin city" than Miami too. Cville might suit Richt much better than Miami would.
That being said, Miami is in better shape with talent and will be much easier to recruit and rebuild than UVA so for a guy who might be looking to redeem himself Miami would make more sense. However, both are sort of dumpster fire jobs at the moment. Neither program has had much luck with their last 2 or 3 hires.
I think he's referencing the fact that Richt played QB at Miami. Thus, a virtual spit in his own brethren's face.
Because at Miami, they will demand a return to the National Championship game within 3-5 years. If he doesn't do that, wait for that growing horde of ex Miami players and Uncle Luke talk about how he isn't getting back to the tradition of the "U". I get that he is a former "U" and a coach, but there are some serious problems with that school and it's relationship with the rest of the University and the city they are located.
If he's the top choice for Miami (http://www.ajc.com/news/sports/college/mark-richt-miamis-top-choice-coac...) and he choses UVA it would have me like:

It would have you like a broken link?
Me, too.
This is really scary for me. I don't see this happening. If I were Mark i would be using it as a bargaining chip. I think USCe is the best fit for him.
I don't want him competing for the same recruits we do.
NO NO NO NO NO NO NOOO
I like Richt. I Dont like UVA. If he takes the job, what will I do then?
Like UVA? Psshhhh #getReal
But in all honesty, that would certainly create a legitimate in-state rivalry both on the field and recruiting.
But in all honesty, that would certainly create a legitimate in-state rivalry both on the field and recruiting.
I like things the way they've been for the past 12 years. Why change what's working? Yes, the recruiting does need to be addressed.
I'd be shocked if he coaches next year. That said, he's a damn good coach and would be dangerous in the Coastal. If he goes to either UVA or Miami, we're going to have some tough games on our hands (and the ACC is going to start looking a lot better).
Why do y'all love Richt so much??????
He consistently had top 5/10 recruiting classes and couldn't manage to win the SEC since 2005.
I would LOVE to see him at UVA.
Georgia fans called him "the best 8-4 coach around" jokingly all the time.
You know how Patrick Ewing and Reggie Miller are regarded as two of the greatest players in NBA history to never win a ring because Michael Jordan was in their way?
Florida and half the SEC West are Jordan to Richt's Ewing.
How about if he just won the SEC East outright a few more times.
Because heres the list of SEC coaches with greater winning percentages than Richt
1). Nick Saban
and if you needed a second reason its because
To be fair, Kurt Newsome could have Top 10 classes at UGa. The program kind of sells itself.
Absolutely, what the program doesnt sell is 5* Quarterbacks re-opening their commitment simply because HC got fired...
The obvious other ones are Phillip Fulmer and Urban Myer
Fulmer got fired and Myer could have still run things.
Regardless of teams in your way, we would be calling for heads if we had top 10 recruiting classes and consistently went 8-4.
EDIT: I am not saying he would not be more competitive than London.. but how much is that saying?
And Richt Says:
If Richt goes to UVA then UVA will continue to dominate in state recruiting despite the Fuente hiring (which was an awesome F'in hire). If you disagree with me saying Richt will dominate recruiting in the 757 then you are lying to yourself. This is scary. UVA landing Richt is a very, very bad thing for the good guys. If idiot head London could convince the 757 to sign with UVA then a guy with 15 years of pretty good success in the SEC can easily.
I agree Richt would be a scary hire to any of our competitors.
I also think UVa is not at all prepared to bring on such a BFD. Pretty sure UVa thought it was a catch, reviewed and call was overturned.
Richt wouldn't have it nearly as easy as you think.
Continue to dominate in state? Since when have they dominated in state?
It's a moot point now though, since Richt is going to Miami. UVA never had a chance with him, it was all in likelihood a courtesy interview by Richt.
I still think he'll end up at Miami.
Canesinsight.com reporting richt expected to sign with Miami.
Miami has made it clear (publicly) that he is their number 1 choice.
Their top 4 list, richt, greg schiano, dan Mullen and butch davis, out of those 4 dan Mullen in my opinion would kill it at Miami but you really can't go wrong with any minus Davis.
The plot thickens.
Richt's choice: coach at Miami or do nothing. That's right UVA, you rank below "do nothing."
Haaaaa. That made me laugh
Im also a little giddy it doesnt sound like Richt will be in our backyard.
I feel like if you're trying to decide if you want to coach, you've already decided you don't want to coach. If we've learned anything, it's that the UVA interview had him second guessing his career field.
I guess the difference is that he wants it to be HIS choice, and not that of Georgia.
I'm guessing his buyout and prior pay leave him in a pretty good financial situation, so it's really more about what he wants to do.
Miami's definitely the better job, so if he wants to coach, it make sense that this would be the one to consider.
Edit: Sounds like a day at UVa convinced him that Miami is a great opportunity.
Update:
LOLUVA
So he went to LOLUVA and was like shit I can beat these guys, that's gives me a leg up on the previous guy. Yea I'll take the Miami job.
Uva to interview bobo the clown from ringling Bros barnum and Bailey circus for head coaching vacancy
He declined based on being overqualified for position
He declined based on it being a circus.
This guy might still be available:
Mall Cop >> Time Cop
Exactly. An upgrade.
Sounds like all uva was was leverage to get what he wanted at Miami, supp was texting Miami while in hooville!!!! Classic, hearing Miami is team to beat but richt hasn't decided yet if he wants to coach.
And I guess the U is back for sure now right?
After every uva fan has commented 'and uva?', i feel they may think he can have dual HC responsibilities.
Richt accepted the job at Miami:

LOLUVA...missed again...

#TheMastersofFail
The power of gif.
To capture an awkward moment of a missed-handshake-to-nose-pick and make it available for public ridicule forever.
UVAs list of viable candidates.
1.Stan Gable
2. Poindexter
3. The Ogre
4. Lamar Latrell
Going to come down to the Alpha Betas or Tri-lambs in the greek games
Al Groh is still available.
I miss that guy
He did beat us more than London.
I still think Lane Kiffen would be the most LOLUVa move of all time
I agree with Schlabach - Miami is a sleeping giant. Its a great hire. Coastal just got a hell of a lot harder.
It's okay. They were holding out for Chip Kelly anyway.
Well I can say the Sabre has been fun to read!
That place is is going to implode. Also what is the use of that
shiftyshitty format on so many boards? I can't read it smoothly at all. It's annoying as crap, but it's the standard SportsWar format. TSL tried to get away from it and make it more like 247's a few years ago, but all the old people got mad and made them change it back. I know at least the staff over there don't like it, but they're pretty much stuck with it because it's what their readership will pay them to use.
And yes, that's an oversimplification of a multi-year process, but that's the gist of it.
0% chance. Richt will not go to LOLUVA. Imagine going from UGA to LOLUVA, not happening.
The glue factory of coaching jobs.
But a QB can go from UVA to UGA and set a NCAA record for completion percentage in a game.
I'll always remember where I was when UVA thought they'd get Richt as a coach.
I've forgotten already. That's the significance of it.
significance of what?
It's actually very significant for the few people that were on the toilet during the announcement.
The Sabre message boards? lol @ that format
I couldn't follow the image @keyplay tweeted of it earlier, and I don't understand Twitter. Guess you have to be a 4th year to get the sabre, but not a 4th year in web design.
It seems to me that Richt interviewed UVa...not the other way around.
Best thing I saw on "La Sabre";
LOLUVA got Richt-Rolled!
Richt just realized he doesn't like Thomas Jefferson THAT much.
#sauces: mother's 2nd cousin's granddaughter's boyfriend's dad said (actually, a guy who has a friend who is a sports agent and is friends with Sanford's agent, but it might as well be the former)
apparently LOLUVa had a handshake deal with Mark Sanford (Notre Dame OC) a couple games before the end of the season. Then when it was apparent that Richt would become available, they told Sanford they needed to get back to him. Sanford told them to screw themselves and Richt chose Miami.
It's like reverse jeff jagodzinski situation.
Oh man, I hope it went down exactly like that, except Sanford used a 4 letter word instead of "screw."
The rule is: Never trust a Wahoo.
Their handshake deals are more what you'd call guidelines than actual agreements.
