The justification above of "I didn't want my post to get lost among other comments" strikes me as a "look at me!" kind of attitude, in contrast to what is expected:
In other words, don't post or comment or topic for the sake of it.
New threads should either provide significant new information or something to stimulate discussion. We already have a huge jumble of stuff in the Tracker at the moment, and as I said above, an unsourced rumor that something is happening merits a comment on the existing thread dedicated to that purpose:
...one thread to collect information, whether from #sauces, tweets from the coaches or people close to them or any other source.
Noise pushes other topics down the Tracker such that they may not get noticed and it generates the increased likelihood of duplicates, which is more noise.

Agreed about Cornell, but we have now lost proven recruiters Stiney, Shane and Loeffler.
On paper, we have taken a step back as a recruiting staff. Fuente himself could make up some difference, the offense will help and it's entirely possible the less tested Memphis staff will step up. But this is an issue worth monitoring.

Agreed, if we can win with mostly 3-star players under Fuente, it will definitely open the door to the 4- and 5-star recruits, if we desire. I think in a lot of ways, you want that 'under the radar' recruit who comes in with something to prove, instead of a more prominent recruit who may not have the same drive. Recruiting is one thing, coaching up and winning games is something different - see Locksley, Franklin, Duffner, etc. for examples. Winning games in a winning environment will take care of itself.

Recruiting class ratings have been shown multiple times of being very strong predictors of on field success. Even under Beamer when the narrative was we were "coaching up" under rated players, we were statistically playing similarly to our recruiting class rating most of the time. Trust me, we want more 4 and 5 start recruits.

For all the hoopla around Fuente's recruiting, I honestly don't think he'll set the world on fire out on the recruiting trail. I'm hoping that his assistants will be very good at recruiting, because my impression of him is that he is a pretty down-to-earth, no nonsense guy, and my impression of a good recruiter is that of a consummate salesman. I don't think he's the sales type.
Don't get me wrong, I think he'll do fine, I just don't think we're going to start pulling in multiple 5-star guys every cycle (not that anyone is outwardly claiming this).

This is traditionally how we have had success. Coach up good players (3* mostly, some 4*) and leverage the on-field success to get a few game-breaker 5* players. Of course, we have more teams in our backyard these days, taking some of that premiere 757 talent, but we can put ourselves in a good position. There's no longer uncertainty about the coaching staff's future, so that element of negative recruiting is gone. If we can return to being a Coastal contender, we will get a few of those top guys that can push us towards national relevance. It's a good recipe. As long as Fuente can sell a vision of success at VT, promote our facilities, academics, and the fact that we still have a family-first atmosphere, he will do fine.

FWIW, Galen Scott was The top recruiter for Memphis over the past 2 years per 247. Right alongside Cornelsen. So we got the 2 guys who are probably the best recruiters from the Memphis staff.

Have you watched Scott's interviews? I think he and Wiggins will be very good recruiters. Scott has existing ties to Florida and GA too, IIRC he's the only Memphis staff member with recruiting experience in our traditional recruiting grounds

He's going to be great.
We need some wins, and a few people who care and can actually talk to recruits. He'll do a great job at that. I think the relative youth is going to help as well.
I'd like for them to have kept someone for relationships in this regard, but I guess this group will be pretty good at building those.

We still have Foster, TG, and Wiles on staff. No they aren't from the 757, but after decades recruiting the state I would hope they have some ties. Fuente has said he will also bring people in with ties to VA and Whit said we would be expanding our recruiting staff. Who knows maybe Stinespring ends up as recruiting coordinator and an office job

Something's telling me there must be something more to these hires than just "(Position) Coach". What we don't see is what goes on behind the scenes at practice or in the meeting rooms, that makes CJF desire these guys on staff, when he maybe has the opportunity to shop around if he wanted.

Perhaps that he's coached with these guys for years - longer than the 4 at Memphis. Vice coached OL at Murray State when Fuente was the QB. Add to that they were all involved in the Memphis turn around. It just makes sense he'd bring as many over as he can.
Also on the defensive side, the only coach he knew before 2 years ago was Galen Scott. So he did shop around on the defensive side. It just so happened they were already here.

Letting go an OLB coach (an alum with VA ties) to hire an OLB coach, will definitely have to have some not-yet-seen upside (coaching intangibles, if you will).
FWIW, Hokiesports.com has updated their Staff Roster with a 2016 section and a 2015 section. Galen Scott's picture isn't there yet.

The upside right now is that he's a much better recruiter than Cornell. I love Cornell and I think he'll get a chance to build his coaching resume somewhere else (probably at a lower level) but he just didn't produce in the area he was brought in to produce in.
We needed another recruiter on this staff and Galen Scott is already an upgrade in that regard.

For the same reason Bryan Stinespring won't be an OC anytime soon. Under his watch (even more damning is the fact that he didn't even have Newsome to blow things up for him), Memphis went from good to bad on defense in one year. No one not named Kiffin is going to advance their career with results like that.

Yes...and program perception is the most important ingredient in that. And the most controllable aspect of program perception is winning.

I think this is his first year as DC. And Memphis had a serious step backward in their defense.
