Offensive line coach Vance Vice has left to join Justin Fuente at Virginia Tech, as expected. GA Mike Bangtson takes over through the bowl.— Tom Schad (@Tom_Schad) December 6, 2015
RIght now, the Hokies only have Patrick Kearns and Thomas Hopple as offensive line commits next season. With some priority targets seemingly unlikely to pick VT, Fuente likely needs Vice face to face with potential targets at a position of need.

OL recruiting needs all the help it can get.
Get after them big uglies!
Yes, this is the way for us not to worry about bad bowls. Get us some good OLs!
Get him in Dickerson's house ASAP
It's not looking likely at this point but maybe he can work some harcore mullet magic...
Dickerson not coming to Tech. Best the new staff can hope for is get a couple decommits back in the fold, hang on to what we have and bring a few of their previous targets on board. After that start working hard on 17 and 18 starting with Laborn and the safety from Va Beach.
You don't KNOW that. Give me a break. Glad the coaches don't have your Dr appt attitude.
Word is that Memphis was not pleased with Vice appearing on SNL last night, which is why he is joining early.
I'm tired of our QBs getting beat up , vomiting, and missing games during season. Vince Vice better get the O-linemen to toughen up and protect whoever the QB is.
Vance Vice vs. the likes of Shawn Oakman. Vice looks like he could hold up so I expect our line to follow suit!
The administration at Memphis seem extremely accommodating with this transition. Surely they have big uglies they need to recruit for as well. I guess they are just really thankful about where the program is right now.
Well, they know who their coach is and they know Vice won't be there. It makes zero sense for him to be recruiting for Memphis, so right now he's really just dead weight from that standpoint. I'm sure they'd prefer that he stay for the bowl game, but it's not gonna cripple the program or anything. Heck of an opportunity for that GA though.
What I mean is that I have been trying to keep track of Memphis coaching hires too for new staff and it seems they are just rolling with whatever Fuente requires. They don't seem in a hurry to fill positions nor do they seem all that concerned that staff is being grabbed by Fuente on an as needed basis. I get that Vice coaching and recruiting for Memphis at this point is probably not make or break for them, but still they seem very nonchalant about the whole process and fact that he is taking at least half the staff and going after some recruits.
It does seem a bit strange to me too... maybe they ain't as smart as me and you? Or it could be that yes, even in this age of cutthroat college athletics, Memphis is recognizing Fuente's contribution to the university and is helping to make the transition as smooth as possible for him. I dunno. Plus, let's not forget that the new coach, Norvell, is from ASU and will likely bring his own staff anyways, so it's not like they're letting Vice out of a long-term contract or anything.
Well they could keep paying them, but once someone has decided to go, they're basically gone.
Vance Vice is already recruiting the high schools.
I'd do anything for another season of Kenny Powers.
Those recruits look a little...soft.
I feel like there will be a ton of decommits coming up here in the next month or so (more than usual) with all of the coaching changes, recruiting season will open RIGHT back up
French I know it is early but what are your initial thoughts on this from a coaching perspective, upgrade, downgrade, or pretty similar?

OL will be our most experienced starting group next season. I am expecting a more effective utilization of the talent we have by Fuente.
Hoping Mason's right in these observations:
Sequencing and competency! Coming our way!
{If we can get decent QB play in 2016}
It's actually kinda ridiculous how similar the two playbooks are but how different the results were.
How much of the different results can be attributed to game flow? I'm not an Xs and Os guy but I've read a lot of comments on here about how the play calling by Loeffler doesn't really flow in a sensible manner. As in, his play calls don't set up succeeding play calls, I guess? Can you comment on that? TIA
Results can almost entirely be attributed to simple execution. For example, when Fuente's wide receivers run fade routes against single coverage they are much more likely to come down with the catch, even if Loeffler has the better athletes.
Is that WR coaching?
Burdens name is being thrown around as a potential add to our staff, presumably because we are super light on Va recruiting ties. Thoughts on what you saw from Burdens guys technique this year?
Quality QB play also helps.
Undoubtedly. But if you gave Loeffler Fuente's talent, and Fuente Loeffler's talent (even with the injuries) there is no doubt in my mind Fuente would still outperfrom Loeffler.
His teams execute at a much higher level. Some of that is due to more effective coaching, but mostly because Fuente's offensive system is simpler (his players execute with higher confidence because they know what they are supposed to be doing) and Fuente uses a smaller variety of formations but a wider variety of plays (much less likely to tip off the defense to what is coming based on formation or personnel grouping). In the future, I'll be giving a much more indepth article.
Experience can't be understated. I get that. However, having 4 different coaches in 5 years for a unit that relies so heavily on cohesion and communication doesn't make me confident that they'll dominate much of anyone this year. I hope that whoever the QB is will be taught to get rid of the ball quickly and then put into a position to do that. I expect lots of quick slants and screens early and often this season. I would also expect to see some zone read option in the running game with 4-wide sets to spread the defense out to help the OL out in any way possible.
Who would be the 4?
Newsome, Grimes, Searels, now Vice.
No the 4 wide receivers.
The Deablo is always in the details
Ford, Cam, Buckey, and TBD
Buckley Rogers!
4th OL coach in 5 years. It's like our version of a Defense Against the Dark Arts professorship.
His picture is now up on Hokiesports.com under the coaches section. I notice he is the only coach not wearing a button up shirt and tie with a coat, just a normal VT collared shirt. Truly a blue collar man, love it!
Note he is also the only one not smiling.
He's got that "take the dang picture so I can get a beer" look...i like him.
I was at Harris Teeter yesterday and thought of him when I was getting beer, which caused me to get Busch Light Camo Cans, the 36 pack!
It's the same picture as his Memphis picture. Looks like the athletic department took it's own crack at photoshop and stuck his head on a VT polo:
That's exactly what I thought when I saw the picture. They forgot the collar shadow.
#shirtgate
So, who's shirt is it?
The same question they asked of Major Tom.
Interesting. Calls into question some of our other recent hires:
That's amazingly hilarious.
i thought something looked a little off in the pic
It's like our athletic department has joined the 21st century or something
Invent the Future.
I think they just photoshopped a VT shirt onto his Memphis picture.
damn, beat me to it, while I was waiting for imgur to be cooperative. leg for you sir
What's also interesting is that if they were going to photo-shop the photo, why not put him in a suit like everyone else?
What, the suit photos were more expensive than the polo shirts?
Maybe just disapproving Vance disapproves.
I thought that sunglass tan looked a little fresh for December
Look at the picture and imagine the words "So I heard you are still taking visits after committing to play for my O-line" haha I don't think O-linemen committing and then de-committing should be an issue with this guy!
I can't stop wanting to call him Vince Vice or Vance Vince. Vince Vance sounds more typical.
We should just call him V:
