I see myself playing at VTechβ DJ Matthews (@dat_dj) December 8, 2015
Not if this really means anything, but he would be an amazing steal for Coach Fuente.

Took an unofficial to VT on September 7. Possibly liked the facilities and campus, and now likes the offense to be installed? Wiggins can recruit now, yes?
Wiggins, Fuente, Shibest, Vance, Foster and Gray can all recruit now.
I think the Memphis guys got a bum rap when it was said they were average recruiters at best. I mean, for the most part, they were trying to recruit for a pretty bad program, so you're not going to be getting 4 and 5-star guys coming out of the woodwork to play for you, regardless of how good of a recruiter you may be. Now that they have a decent program to work from, with so much optimism, they'll be able to nail some of those 4 and 5-star guys.
WR?
Yes, and part of the 2017 recruiting cycle. So not this year. Important to note.
Ahh ok. thanks
Edit: NVM. In the grand scheme of things, this question was pointless. Hopefully I got the edit in before people had time to open the thread.
I saw it but the secret is safe with me.
Your not the only one who has done that.
Edit: I have too
....You're....
We could see you playing here too bud!
Lemme get dat commit.
Well come on down, take off your coat & stay awhile
Actually, for a Florida guy in Blacksburg, he might need to keep his coat
This is a good thread to remind people. DONT TWEET AT RECRUITS
Like this?
I always favorite, but never reply. ITS ALL ABOUT THE LIKES NOW DAYS.
Even then it's a grey area. VT compliance prefers not to have fans interact with recruits.
I respectfully disagree with that. Some of these young guys want to know which fan base would want them the most, and one of the ways to do that is to see what kind of reaction they will get from posts similar to this one. It's a different day and age of recruiting where even us average Joe's can get involved.
That being said, I agree it is completely unnecessary, and out of line to be tweeting at these kids.
well considering that it can be a NCAA violation, I would say that Fireman is correct
There is no way for the NCAA to monitor and enforce it. I am not saying it is right or wrong to tweet at the 'cruits but there is no way it can be stopped and unfortunately the 'cruits like all the attention they can get.
This is true, or else you have a lot of "fans" with fake accounts trying to get their rivals in trouble. I could definitely see this being something done in the SEC with some of the fans they have.
In no way, should a school or team be punished by the actions of someone who isn't a part of the organization, or represents someone in said organization.
Exactly....put up a fake Bama fan avatar and tweet at all the cruits when you're in fact an Auburn fan.
How can the NCAA know who is just trolling and who is truly a fan. They're in a no win situation.
I just keep scrolling, personally. Any interaction with recruits is super weird. Those are high school kids. I've seen VT fans private message kids asking if they're going to commit. It's just gross and sort of unethical.
This would be a HUGE get if we could land him. He's a borderline 4*/5* WR, ranked #16 at his position in the country by 247. He would start and contribute immediately, and would be a playmaker for us.
Uhhhhh......no. You. Are. Wrong. ...but in the best kind of way.
Rivals ranks this young man not #16 at his position, but #16 in the country. #2 WR in the country.
....oh.....
Here's me coming with all the good news...

Ehhh, don't Sweat it. Rankings don't matter...because Sam Rogers or something.
Have to Hand it to you, this was a kind reply....
Wow, you Drew up a nice response there...
Ya'll are so SLYE
Kendall this thread get any Fuller?
This thread was Taylor made for cleverness
now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go tend to my cold with some Vick's rub
I like this thread. We should keep moving Ford with it.
It's the number of stars, it's what You do with them.
Also, we shouldn't Settle for someone else's rating. Need our staff to evaluate the players.
Agreed, the only way we can really get a good Motuapuaka of a player is to do our own homework.
i messed it up didn't i?
I wouldn't worry I'll just get my Phillips head screw driver and fix it.
getting 5 stars from FSU is going to be the new LAWSON!
anddddd ill see myself out
Wyatt don't you all hurry up and just tell this guy to commit here??
Something something Nnadi.
The #2 WR in the nation is a 4 star?
something something not committed to SEC school therefore no 5th * for him
I could care less between 4 stars and 5. I'd like another highly-rated WR to go with Lawson, please.
Time to start Facyson the music.
I can see HokieNation supporting DJ in Hokie uniform!
FWIW he's from the same school Isaiah Ford came out of. That school has been putting out a lot of top recruits.
This could be connected to Isaiah:
What do you mean "connected to?" I'm pretty sure this was part of our recruiting pitch after we unveiled the black uniforms and one of these was sent to each of our prospective recruits.
I'm aware of the campaign; that's not news. I'm probably reading too much into it, but it seems to me that "not far from the 1 spot" could be (1) VT could become his leader and (2) Isaiah wears #1 and maybe Matthews sees himself as heir apparent in our offense, since they come from the same school. Wouldn't doubt that Isaiah is in his ear, and I know he went back and visited his old school after the GT game.
Gotcha! Now I see the connection you were making. I thought you were saying that the image somehow came from Isaiah or that someone edited a photo of Isaiah. I'm pretty sure they are all part of the same organization down there.
This tweet preceded the OP tweet by 5 minutes. Wonder if he was thinking "I could see myself at VT" after seeing his name on #BlackUni?
Kid is a state champion and from the tweets was a major contributor in the title game.
When he says "VTech" does he mean that magical place in Blacksburg we all know and love, or the giant corporation that makes crappy baby monitors and such?
It's good to be absolutely, crystal clear on these matters.
That's so Leonard...
I thought he might be talking about a honda civic engine
If he stays at FSU I will be making comments about his new laptop.

/\ what UNC players do their homework on
What the teacher assistants do UNC player's homework on*
Does he mean that he will be playing at VTech within the four years he is at Florida State?
Unless he's expecting a RS year and a medical RS year so he can play in 2023, he'll never step foot in Lane if he goes to FSU.
This is such a sad truth.
Thank this man...
Wait, what.... are we really not scheduled to play Florida State until 2023? Are you kidding me?
Can't have FSU losing that many ACC games. They are the cash cow of the ACC football world.
We play FSU 2018 and then 2023 why the ***** is that so spread apart #bullshit
We play Clemson 2017 and then in 2024... why the ***** is that so spread apart #bullshit
to clarify, we play AT FSU in 2018 and host them at Lane in 2023.
We host Clemson in 2017 and play AT Clemson in 2024.
No, we pay Clemson in 2016 and 2017 and FSU in 2018 and 2019 in Charlotte.
They're going to rename Panthers Satdium to Frank Beamer Field at Lane Stadium South.
You gotta love the ACC!
Because the ACC only has 8 conference games and uses a permanent crossover opponent (BC for us), there is only one open conference game each season, and it needs to alternates between being a home game and away game each season, depending on whether BC is home or away, in order to maintain a balance of 4 home & 4 away games. There are 6 Atlantic Division teams other than BC. Thus, the scheduling options are: (a) rotate through the 6 Atlantic Division teams one at a time, playing them home one year and away the next. In that case, you play each team in back-to-back seasons but then you will not play that team at all for 10 years. (b) rotate through all 6 Atlantic Division teams over the course of 6 seasons, playing each of them just once, and then rotate through them again over the following 6 seasons, playing them in the opposite venue. The ACC does the latter.
Two ways to alleviate the infrequency with which we play Atlantic division teams would be (a) move to a 9-game conference schedule and/or (b) get rid of the permanent crossover. There are pros and cons to both changes, although personally I prefer the latter.
Can't takeout the crossover because of FSU and Miami.
That's not a hard problem to solve though. If there are teams that care enough about playing each other every season, just realign the divisions to put them in the same division when removing the crossover.
You could, but the alternatives have never gained any traction.
1) Eliminate the divisions altogether and adopt some variant of the "Bitter Plan". (not possible unless NCAA changes current CCG rules)
2) Go to 9 conference games. (almost happened, but then the scheduling deal with Notre Dame happened. will probably happen if/when conference expands to 16 teams, but that doesn't solve the problem, as you'll then have 7 division games to play)
3) The rivals could schedule OOC games like UNC-Wake did.
We really need to be on a nine game conference schedule. Having kids miss playing the other schools in the league is just silly.
Clemson, FSU and GT will never agree to it.
If you recall it was going to happen. The the Notre Dame deal was made and we rolled back to 9-game conference schedules.
Right because those schools don't want to play 9 conference game, ND and an SEC team in a year.
because all three of those schools have OOC rivalry games.
South Carolina, UF and UGA.. why would they give up an SEC game for an ACC game?
meanwhile we're stuck with BC and ECU every MF'ing year.
When they last voted, only Clemson, FSU and Duke were opposed to a 9 game schedule. GT voted in favor of it, and BC, UNC, and us gave no opinion. It isn't as hated as many believe. And I think if schools looked at scheduling now and revisited the vote, you'd see a different result.
I know that we have LOLUVA as our rivalry, but it would be so great if we could start an ooc series with Tennessee or WVU to develop that rivalry again.
I'd rather see what we are doing, and that is scheduling B1G teams to home and homes, than Tennessee. It opens more recruiting avenues and I am not convinced Tennessee is ever going to get back to the level that they were in the Fulmer era.
I would love to have a great rivalry with WVU and play them every year
Unfortunately, having a WVU rivalry will never be great.
I say drop the stupid permanent crossover and rotate in a extra opposite divisional team, would make sure you at least see every team in the ACC at home in a 4 year span. I know this would mean the Miami and FSU doesn't happen every year, blame that on the ACC thinking they would be contending for the championship every year when they established the divisions.
I agree and I hate to say it but I think the rest of the country finds that rivalry about as exciting these days as tech/uva so it really shouldnt be a reason not to make changes.
The game still gets high ratings and that helps the ACC so that game isn't going anywhere.
Trade Miami for Louisville in the divisions to keep the rivalry, and allow the NC BBall schools to schedule each other as OOC games, like they wanted, if they still want to. Then you have 3 rotating other divisional games, and it removes the lack of parity when one team gets to play WF every season while another has to play FSU.
IIRC, Whit voted against a 9 game schedule as well.
To be fair, if we make it to the ACCCG we may play them quite a bit sooner.
Not in Lane.
We play @ FSU in 2018.
Tech plays one home and one away Atlantic division games each year. The BC game switches between Blacksburg and Chestnut Hill each year so tech plays at Syracuse in 2016, in Blacksburg against Clemson in 2017, and at FSU in 2018.
http://www.hokiesports.com/football/schedule/future/
We are scheduled to play FSU in 2018, but its in Jacksonville. The next time we play them in Lane is 2023.
Wait what Jacksonville??
Pretty sure he meant to say Tallahassee. I don't think it's one of those "neutral" site games.
I was about to really excited. Love Jacksonville, it's a quick trip from SC there and there would be tons of seats.
He would need to go to East Carolina to assure he plays VT, not a fellow ACC school.
WRU!
YES WE SHOULD MAKE T-SHIRTS, GET ALL HYPE IN THE OFFSEASON AND THEN WATCH THEM ALL GET INJURED IN THE FIRST FEW WEEKS OF THE YEAR SO WE CAN BLAME JOE
Um, your all caps comment is making want to grab my pitchfork. Should I grab my pitchfork?
via GIPHY
you should probably lay low for awhile...
He would be a huge get. I don't want to get my hopes too high because he is committed to FSU. Although, I doubt they looked at those tweets and were very happy about it.
He's been committed to FSU since he was 15 years old.
Yeah, well sometimes you get engaged to your high school sweetheart and you stay engaged for a long time, but then somewhere along the line it just doesn't turn out like you thought it would and your life takes a different direction and you wind up in Blacksburg and figure out it was the best thing that ever happened to you.
So we need to be his hot mistress or sultry cougar?
O_o
It works out for the best source: me
It's very common for early commits to start flipping once they've looked around and done more research.
but he hasn't met BAE yet, I hear she can make the hair on the back of your neck stand up with 4 words "Exit Light Enter Night"
Anyone else read this thread over and over again?

"4 star FSU recruit"..."#2 WR in nation"..."Isaiah Ford connection"...
I know this recruiting show is just leaving the station, but ...gracious!
It is starting for me. Can't help myself.
Get used to it. This is the kind of recruit who will show interest in us once Fuente gets our offense going.
Hopefully our defensive recruiting will see some uptick as well.
Where'd you get that gif of Whit Babcock dancing?
He could be screwing with everyone but his recent tweets seem to suggest he plans to decommit today?
It's also interesting to note he has been retweeting a lot of VT fans who have been tweeting at him
That's unacceptable. I'm going to go tweet at him to not encourage them.
/s
I don't know, this seems pretty clear. Broken hearts for the spears
He must also have experienced what #FSUTwitter can do
#FSUTwitter could help make his decision easier. I can only imagine the tweets he got when he tweeted the VT stuff.
See? This is why you don't tweet recruits. #FSUTwitter will do it for you.
Just googled frog soup and this came up:
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=frog+soup
pretty interesting.
It's a reference to the Kermit "none of my business" meme.
http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/but-thats-none-of-my-business
Thanks! I'm emoji illiterate.
*meme illiterate :)
Just noticed on one of his tweets, a guy replied to him asking "what happened to reclassifying." He responded with a wink emoji.Could we be seeing a 2016 Hokie WR commit today? Me thinks so.
EDIT: The wink was in response to something else. Twitter has fooled me. But still doesn't mean he won't reclassify.
http://www.scout.com/college/florida-state/story/1614396-does-fsu-have-a...
This could be huge!!! Scout.com is reporting he is reclassifying to the 2016 class. If he really decommits to FSU and commits to VT, talk about hitting the recruiting trail running.
http://www.scout.com/college/florida-state/story/1614396-does-fsu-have-a...
I now see I got my post up a touch later, my bad. Was trying to get a quote from the article in.
Just back on the board...and you guys are KILLING me!

In my best Higgins voice:
Don't you mean Wiggins voice?
Wiggie-baby.
Don't care until he's signs an LOI w/ the good guys.
Wow! This is getting interesting!
Never thought I would be refreshing twitter every 2 minutes.
Sign up to receive mobile notifications from him on Twitter. Right when he tweets, you will get a text message or push notification.
So the concerns about Fuente's recruiting being his weakpoint may have been a little overblown.
I don't think weak point - at least it wasn't for me. Just that it was an "unknown".
That's fair. I'm just saying the only negative that I was seeing come up when we hired him was that his recruiting classes are Memphis weren't stellar.
what were you expecting though? he was at freaking Memphis
The fact he was able to not only get talent to freaking Memphis but to also develop a Top 10 offense in freaking Memphis is astonishing. Even snake oil salesmen think recruiting to freaking Memphis is too difficult.
And I hereby nominate Memphis' football team to hereby be known as 'freaking Memphis'.
Mike London was going to go to Memphis after getting fired from loluva but changed his mind after learning this.
are you calling me an oil snake sales man???
I thought the same thing.
I never really shared in the concern that he might not be a good enough recruiter.
Yes I certainly don't mind being proven wrong in this manner.
Key word in that sentence: "Memphis"
not a single LOI has even been signed yet. I think we're still in "wait and see" mode
Let's wait till he signs a blue chipper. We've had players "like" us plenty of times before
Very strong possibility he's screwin with everyone involved on this and just having fun on twitter.
Beat me to it...I'll have (another) drink.
Sounds like you have a drinking problem
I don't think I'll ever get over Macho Grande.
I feel this gif has a place in this comment section somewhere but can't place it......so much potential......
I think I can help, I speak jive
I am serious...and don't call me Shirley.
This is my fear.
via GIPHY
I was kind of thinking the same thing.. If this is all just a bad joke, I wonder if there could be any repercussions from the FSU side like them retracting an offer or anything
Yeah they would totally retract his offer for messing around on twitter...
Just like they suspended Winston for his antics.
Nah. He's Tweeting on "International time" per Bobby Bowden.
I think it's a possibility, but I don't think it's a strong one. With any type of leadership in this kids life, he would and should know better than to do that. If he does though, I would nominate him for...

While I hope this isn't true, there certainly is precedent. Remember Chad Kelly posting pics of him and his girlfriend all decked out in VT gear and getting everyone excited (and not just because his girlfriend was hot) - before he committed to Ole Miss?
I gotta believe the Ford connection is the difference in this case.
I agree with your last line. All the recent (well deserved) attention Ford has gotten as the all-ACC first team and breaking VT passing records has given him all-the-more power in saying that at VT, you can be a 1st class WR and lead the ACC....something we haven't been able to say for quite some time.
Kelly never actually had a VT offer, we were interested and he tried to lobby to get one but never did. I remember everybody assuming we offered him when he tweeted that we did, but it is forgotten that he deleted that tweet a couple days afterwards.
Hmm...yes, we can see you playing here too. You'd look good in Maroon and Orange. ...come come, ...stay a while.
It appears the tables have turned again, Dr. Evil.
Afternoon news from a decent FSU source-> He definitely isn't sure about FSU and wants to take officials elsewhere. Thinking a more spread/open style of offense would fit/accentuate his skills better than what FSU runs which is pro style power football.
Also was told with him wanting to reclassify to 2016 FSU doesn't want /can't take him so they could be completely out of the running for him.
I'm guessing he's watched film of Fuente's offense at Memphis the last 4 years
I'm not trying to be rude but I'll bet he hasn't. What's more likely is FSU has changed their stance and Ford has been in his ear. Athletes talk a bunch especially when they share high school roots. I'm sure Ford would love to have another receiver from his stomping grounds and is telling this recruiticorn that this new coach is going to do bigger and better things. At just face value (which is what I take twitter to be) it seems his interested is all. Let's not get too hyped up until a letter is in hand.
anyone else find it ironic that, in the age of technology we're in right now, the piece of technology that has the last word in recruiting is the fax machine?
They can also send it the NLI by email.
yes, but that's not as funny.
What about a pager?
Pigeon?
Ahh Paul Johnson's preferred method of receiving. NLIs
Whenever someone prefaces something by saying "not trying to be rude" or similar, it usually makes the reader perceive the statement as condescending, or exactly the opposite as intended. I wouldn't have read your comment as rude without the first statement, just as a comment disagreeing with me, as we are all allowed to do on this site.
Now that I've got my hypocritical condescension out of the way, I would ask, what has led you to believe FSU has changed their stance besides a previous comment above based on "heard it from..." sources? Until I see reputable sources, I would say he's committed to FSU and them to him barring some outside circumstances.
I'd bet he has watched film. Even if he is just playing with our hearts, I'm sure he liked what Fuente brings to the table. I'd even bet that Fuente and Wiggins have been in contact with him.
I hate making assumptions off these things but he followed Guerry on Twitter a while back and started following Holmon and Fuente within the past week. With that being said, I still think the kid is trolling us and this is a long shot.
Edit: "have" for "has"
I hope I'm wrong, but I read this as "I don't want to run block."
read it wrong. more that he wants to be more involved in the game as a whole. Fuente's offense is very very WR friendly.
He is home schooled but can play for a local private high school? Or is Trinity public? I'm confused. I thought the homeschool exemption was for public schools only?
Doesn't Florida have the first Tebow rule, for home schoolers to play football?
Doesn't Virginia? Augie Conte was home schooled and played at Huguenot, I believe.
They have tried for years to get one passed and it finally made it out of assembly and was vetoed by the governor.
Conte played at Blessed Sacrament which is a private school. He was homeschooled and played on a team just for homeschooled players but I believe he finished at a private school.
Up until recently if you were home schooled you had to play sports at a private or religious school.
The "Tim Tebow Rule" was to allow Private/home school kids to play at public schools see below.
He's just a 16-year-old kid with eyeballs on him trolling us. He just wrote to a current player at FSU, "Can't wait to link in Doak". I'm sure he got what he wanted out of it... a few Twitter followers and people talking about him on message boards.
Well...he did get 159 (and counting) comments from us on this thread.
So...he's not decommitting and coming to the good guys instead?
#FSUTwitter being #FSUTwitter.
Although, there's still time for him to see the light.
Well that seems like an immature thing to do. I'll pass on that sort of player
This reminds me too much of Isaiah McKenzie to get excited
Guys, at virginia tech we always did things the right way under beamer. First we take prime talent from a poor JUCO school, And now were talking about STEALING (recruits). I just don't like the way things are changing under this new "fuente" fella. I think were losing our moral core.
Edit: extreme sarcasm
Huh dude it's way to be drinking on a Sunday! All our coaches are doing is throwing their pitch, it's up to the kids if they want to come. Not like we are giving out free crab legs or strippers. Calm down
Not sure if the comment was supposed to be in sarcastica or not, but honestly, we were getting dusted in recruiting because we didn't keep up. We're not stealing anyone. These are recruits and until they are signed, they can be recruited. Beamer & Co. also "stole" Dwayne Lawson and Isaiah Ford, but no one complained about their recruitment when they picked the good guys. Beamer's rule was to back off if the kid asked to stop being contacted. The JUCO thing is pretty new, but that's largely due to academic hurdles of getting into an ACC school and VT's own standards. Pursuing a JUCO kid can be a risky proposition depending on a lot of complex academic requirements. Beamer & Co. probably didn't feel it was worth the effort to jump through the hoops. But a kid that has finished a JUCO degree and wants to transfer is fair game and something that a lot of schools do. As long as Evans meets the requirements to enroll in VT, good for him and welcome.
My apologies. Absolutely meant to be sarcasm to the max. I wouldnt have thought anyone could have taken that seriously. Will be more careful in the future.
I triple dog dare you to post that to TSL
One problem is that the sarcasm didn't make sense. VT has been stealing recruits for a while now...
Yep. Ford, Malleck, Lawson, Dadi, Kyshon come to mind quickly.
McGlaughlin too
I read in the TD 12/10 that it has some merit he is interested
Again my bad getting people riled up but I had thought the giveaway would be
Also I wouldn't consider it "stealing" recruits in the literal sense as it is their choice. And in the case of VT it would be liberating them from their bad choice and offering them a way out with the bonus of basking in eternal glory.
" /s " is a powerful symbol on this site......
What does this photo mean?
That is the Twitter cover photo of DJ Matheww, a WR who is committed to FSU.
And his 5* CB teammate Shaun Wade who is committed to Ohio St
Did we know they had both been to VT before this pic?
At first I read this as you saying the pic was also Wade's twitter cover photo. I was slightly ecstatic for a moment.
I was recently in the Skins locker room, and I must say, the VT locker room is by far better looking than theirs.
Everything about Fedex Field sucks. EVERYTHING.
Not the visiting team...
I like how they are displaying all of the helmets in the lockers for the recruits. BUT get that damn Hokie Bird helmet out of there.
This has since been changed FWIW
This makes things a little more interesting. I had no idea he had already visited. If he is trolling, he better be careful to not burn down his current bridges, I can't imagine the coaches at FSU are all to pleased to be seeing some of this.
Really hope this isn't some troll job.
That's a lot of work just to troll and that isn't exactly gonna get him the correct attention. Plus in the TD 12/10 it was said there is some merit to it
What is TD 12/10? RTD?
Times Dispatch on December 10th, is what I took it to mean.
I believe he is referring to the terror dome on vtscoop, which is a member Q&A to the site admins.
Terrordome December 10th. I think it's behind a paywall on 247
Exactly. It would make more sense for him to troll Clemson or Florida . I think there is genuine interest here
Until he de-commits from them and commits to us he is just trolling and I get a feeling that is something FSU and Miami would love to do to Hokie fans.
Why? We just hired the hottest up and coming offensive mind in the college game, signed the top JUCO QB in the country, who will be competing with another four star QB for the starting job, have four well-regarded WR verbals, three of whom will be enrolling early, and who will all be competing yo complement the top receiver in the ACC in 2015, plus a glut of talent at the tailback position and finally some depth on the OL to the tune of eighteen bodies to fill the five spots.
We will be fine with or without this kid. This kid, however, might have a far better college career if he switches to the good guys.
I hope DJ Matthews is watching what Ford is doing tonight. I know it'll be a different offensive regime next year but Ford's performance can't hurt with the recruiting of DJ.
wrong post
Picture is a repost from June of last year but the comment seems interesting
This will keep us busy till football season.
Comment could cut both ways....
Don't know the kid but looking back at this thread and his tweets, this has the look of a grade A troll move.
Could be wrong, but I get the feeling he keeps popping up VT stuff anytime he doesn't feel like he's getting enough FSU attention
...or he could just be throwing friendly jabs directed solely at Isaiah Ford because he's wearing his jersey and we are over-analyzing the intentions of a 17 y/o kid...this is probably the least likely.
Mispost. Sorry guys. I shall repent.
